The Avco World Trophy, also known as the Avco Cup, is the playoff championship trophy of the defunct World Hockey Association, which operated from 1972 until 1979.
@@DataCastle Why not count Stanley Cups before 1915? Yes - the NHL Stanley Cup Champions never had the courage to accept several playoff challenges to play the AVCO Cup winners. The WHA had 4 of hockey’s all time greatest players at one time (Gretzky, Howe, Hull and Messier) back then. While the Habs (Stanley Cup Champions back then) could only tie the Red Army - the WHA AVCO champions beat them. I can see why the NHL cup Champions & league just bought the WHA out. That is all good with me. 😀 They aren’t making new AVCO Cups anymore - so they are in some ways more valuable than Stanley Cups.

The Vancouver Canucks have been playing in the NHL since the 1970-71 season. In that time the team has enjoyed decent success, albeit they still haven't won the Stanley Cup.
Montreal didn't win all "their" cups with 6 teams in the league. They won in 86, and 93. Last I checked at least, I'm pretty sure there were more than 6 teams during both those victories.
Realistically, any cups before 1969 aren't the same as cups after that. Not just because it was just the 6 teams prior to that, but also the Canadian teams and Detroit prior to 1969 had a massive competitive advantage over the other teams like Chicago and New York due to signing rights for prospects and having priority over those that are within a certain distance.
That's like saying all of NY Yankees' championships should not count. They have a massive advantage over other teams because they have more money to spend.
@@OldManEasy No, it's a bit different. All teams could spend like the Yankees if they chose, back in the NHL, it was a straight rule that gave the Northern teams a massive advantage with first pick of the best players since all the best players were coming from Canada. It would be the same if the Yankees got to choose all the players first, then the other teams could then sign the players they didn't want.
@@Marixa1979 - That is incorrect. the 1st NHL draft was in 1963. Before that, the NHL teams would sponsor their local amateur teams and players. The system was setup to allow local players to play for the local team in order to grow the sports. In baseball, historically, before the CBT was implemented in 96, there were no teams that could compete with the Yankees in term of payroll. Back then they just bought the all the best players. Also the first few years of CBT was so weak that the Yankees just paid whatever tax penalties. It is not a coincidence that the Yankees stopped winning World Series once the CBT started to have real teeth. Even right now, no one in the right mind would say the Yankees (or the Mets) are on equal footing as the Athletics, the Pirates, the Twins, the Royals, etc. Money was, is and always will be the biggest advantage. IF the Mets or the Yankees win this year, would you say their championship should not count because they have a 'massive advantage' over the Tigers or the Royals or the Guardians?
I think the biggest Stat that will eventionally destroy the NHL is the fact that a Canadian team hasn't won a cup in 34 years and counting.C9nspiracy,of course it is. There is only one Canadian basketball team and yet they managed to win a championship in less than 34 years. The Blue Jay's 2 world series wins. How is this not a conspiracy than? Two different sports with both being the only Canadian franchise that survived,The Blue Jay's and the Raptors.
The long drought for Canadian NHL teams is disappointing, but it’s not proof of a conspiracy. Sports are unpredictable, and the Raptors and Blue Jays winning championships show that Canadian teams can succeed in tough leagues.
First of all, it's been 31 years, as MTL won in 1993. Edmonton came within spitting distance of the cup in 06, losing 3-1 with an EN goal, and in 24, losing 2-1, in regulation. Among other Canadian teams that were incredibly close as well, and were just never able to finish it. I would hardly call it a conspiracy.
@datriaxsondor590 You don't get my point at all.Say hello to the AHL.Thats what's going to happen to the NHL,I could see this happening 30 years ago.A penalty shot in overtime, that's bs.
You have that wrong the original Ottawa Senators have 11 and why do you only go to 1915 when the first Stanley Cup was awarded in 1892?
So you're saying the Hartford Whalers and Quebec Nordiques never existed then?
That’s the top tier content I come for
Thanks, dude! You know I’m just out here trying to keep it real for you all!
Why not count all the Cups? They all are equal. Why not add Avco Cups also?
