- Journalist and author Robert Evans discusses his novel "After the Revolution", a fictional story set in 2070 Texas. More from Lone Star Plate: lonestarplate.show
My guest today is Robert Evans, a Journalist, War Correspondent, Podcast Host, Author, Activist and I’m hoping an optimist.
He is here to discuss his novel “After The Revolution”, which is a fictional, bordering on non-fictional, story set in 2070 Texas, 20 years after an American Civil War. As I hear, there may be a sequel on the way as well.
I’ve personally only scratched the surface of the novel so let's learn about it together. We’re also going to learn a bit about Robert, his career that led to writing this book, dive into the book itself to give you a taste, and talk about the accompanying podcast of the same name. And as always we'll parade around any other topics that come up.
“The world’s broad stockpile of f***edupedness stays pretty constant.” - Robert Evans

Been listening to Robert for all these years it's nice to finally put a face to that voice.
What a gay phrase
Robert Evans is the BEST 🙌🙌
I love Robert Evans and am thrilled to find this. Love your show! I'm originally from Texas and I have so much respect for all my blue friends fighting the good fight. Love and respect, brothers and sisters. We're all in this together.
Thank you so much for the comment and the compliment! Texas all the way. No matter where i go, Texas goes with me.
By "Blue Friend" are you talking Democrats and the left?
@@nathankuhn3811 Smurfs.
I love Robert continue to speak truth to power
I've only just found this doppelganger and have been saying the exact same things for years now.
😂
I live in Louisiana. Since Trump arrived, maybe Obama, I've seen people radicalized. I hear both sides talk in DC, and they don't get it. How mad folks are, how they struggle. I saw Jan 6 coming since 2016. Robert has his finger om the pulse.
🙌
Robert is one of my favorite human beings
I LOVE THIS BOOK. I've read it twice and listened to it probably 6 times now
After the Revolution is one of my favorite books, I've listened to it so much, I can quote parts of it.
I love his Podcast "Behind the Bastards", highly recommended.
This was a great interview. Thanks for sharing it.
thanks for having him on!
I need to assume that if he for once accurately pointed a camera at himself, the world would be in danger, because he's fighting it in every recording.
Do the L. Ron story! PLEASE!
I lived in Clearwater FL a number of years
28:05 If you lived in Clearwater you'll probably appreciate the 6 part episode on L. Ron 😅
Have been a fan of Robert Evans work for a while so this book was absolutely a delight to hear him read. As a Texan and now West Coast transplant it's always funny to hear how closely Robert and I's travels line up, especially leaving the state shortly after that 100 days of 100 degrees fiasco. I will have to definitely link folks to this conversation because I love how you both touch on important and challenging topics like BLM, community safety/defense, guns and what a civil war looks like. I used to be a huge fan of post-apcolyptic books, and ATR fits in that genre without being dystopian or utopian...just, what it could be and for many, already is.
Thanks for watching!
great book, solid interview. 10/10
Your set is dope! Solid interview-- definitely subscribed.
Behind the bastards is awesome. Hilarious dude with great politics
Agreed!
Great episode.
💪🍾 thank you!!!
I can't believe I found y'all cos of Telecaster talk with Bill Kirchen and here you are with Robert?!?!?!
Bill Kirchen is the man!!
What did you think of interview with Robert?
@@LoneStarPlate loved it! And you lived Spain too?!?! I was seriously thinking of moving there in 2021. Any recs for good cheap Spanish wines over here in the states?
@@DocHelliday great place! I would say just about any Spanish wine is good here. They are the best low priced bottles to get. That’s one place you shouldn’t be afraid to try from any place. They don’t typically go too strong with their wines…
You mentioned the Golden Age of Sci Fi and it was kind of weird. Heinlein wrote "Time Enough For Love" in the early 60's where Lazarus Long tells weird sex stories from across his extremely long lifespan
Drinking game: take a drink every time he starts an answer with "YEAH!"
☠️
Double like
People like me will listen to Robert's silky, seductive voice and think "hell yeah"
Thanks for watching!
It is a really fuckin good book
Thanks for your comment!
I definitely got some Timothy zahn and metro 2033 vibes from this book. Probably my favorite sci Fi story so far. I enjoyed it more than star ship troopers but heinlans story was better but ATR was that goofy/ depressing and gorey mix I was looking for
The production of so many weapons is astonishingly on purpose. Coming from Sinaloa. I see the armament of the cartels. That is no accident.
Great point - thank you for your comment!
Comment for the algorithm.
Was really interested around the gun rights/ control discussion, as a UK fan of BtB, I never quite got why he was so 'pro-gun'. After all you guys are massive outliers for gun homicides and child gun death. He acknowledges it would be better if nobody has access to guns/ ARs, but where gun control could accentuate inequalities especially in the tinderbox of modern America, and the sh*tshow that would happen if you asked certain extremists to give up their guns I'm beginning to understand...
Well put - thanks so much for watching!
Spam and self promotion finally stops at 3:12
And then they actually start talking about the book at 6:30
Hes an activist and larper, not an actual journalist
No doubt he has bias and is an activist. And he will admit to that readily. Doesn't mean isn't intellectually curious and personally travel to areas that need journalism and reports. He does that also.
@@farhan007 well there were 100 straight days of protests in Portland in 2020 and riots in that time caused about 23 million dollars in damages. Robert just summed that all up as "cops deploying historic amounts of tear gas against 16 year olds". I do not think he is intellectually curious. He will actively dismiss or minimize events/data that do not support his world view. There is nothing you can show him that would change his mind which is not the mark of a journalist, it is the mark of an activists.
@@areliablesource7733 when there is a history of people dismissing entire causes like the civil rights movement with the same rhetoric about property destruction and riots I shut them off.
What frustrates me the most is the people who are most vocal about the evils of property destruction with rioters is that these same exact people worship white landowners for rioting and committing violence because they were taxed unfairly. Trust me the abuses of American law enforcement are far grave than anything King George did to white colonial landowners.
@@areliablesource7733what's the point of reporting about size of fiscal damage when your series is about tactics?
