  • An easy and tasty Fish Curry from Toddy shops of Thiruvalla for everyone. Hope all of you will try this recipe and tell us what you think in the comments below.
    Ingredients:
    Fried masala paste:-
    Coconut oil
    Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
    Red chili powder - 3 tbsp
    Coriander powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
    Fenugreek powder - 1/2 tsp
    Shallots - 10
    Water
    Fish preparation:-
    Coconut oil
    Garlic - 2 tbsp
    Ginger - 2 tbsp
    Fried masala paste
    Water
    Kokum (kudam puli)
    Salt
    Curry leaves
    Vala (Chitala) - 2 kg
    Method:
    Fried masala paste:-
    1. Heat coconut oil in a kadai and add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder and fenugreek powder. Saute them well until the raw smell is gone.
    2. Transfer this masala mix to a mixer grinder and add shallots. Grind the masala to a thick paste with water.
    Fish preparation:-
    1. Heat 3 tbsp of coconut oil in a clay pot and add garlic and ginger. Saute them well.
    2. Add the fried masala paste, 2 cups of water, kokum as required and salt. Add water as required and add few strings of curry leaves.
    3. Add the fish and close it with a lid. Let the fish cook.
    4. Once the fish is cooked, add a tbsp of coconut oil and few more strings of curry leaves.
    Serve and enjoy with rice.
    Note: This dish can be made with any type of fish and is also made just with the head piece (thalakari).
