Lisa Fischer was a backup singer for 22 years for Luther Vandross (until his passing in 2005) while ALSO being a backup vocalist since 1989 for The Rolling Stones. This song, "How Can I Ease the Pain", was a #1 hit that earned her a Grammy! She didn't care for the spotlight; so, after her album and all the fanfare from her big hit, she went right back to being a background singer. That's where her heart was. She still performs. She is SO underrated!
@@SylkimamiExactly! Everybody doesn’t crave the limelight! I have followed her career for years. What is painful to me, is I actually think she is a much better singer than the late great Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. She just didn’t like being out front as much as she loved background…..she could just do the “runs” all day, instead of singing chorus! Her voice is at the top of the register!
I love the fact that all these years later shes being rediscovered and appreciated by a new generation of fans. She is such a genuine and kind and talented woman. She deserves EVERY accolade ....
I don't believe she was underrated. Luther encouraged her to go solo. But it was her decision to stay in the background. So we should enjoy her amazing voice and respect her decision to remain a backup singer.
No they are up there with her. She is a colortura soprano. Her range exceeds many top vocalists. Watch any qualified vocal teacher on RUclips to get their assessment.
Grammy Award Winner & voice of angel ! Lisa Fischer won a Grammy for this song. But a little secret is she actually enjoyed singing background for Luther Vandross and Rolling Stones far better than the fame this hit brought her. There were several things that happened in order for this album and song to become a reality for Fischer. First, there was her boss, Luther Vandross, who kept nagging her until she recorded the album. You see, at the time, true vocal female singers like Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston were at the height of their careers. It was the late 80's & early 90's, and anyone in the music industry knew of this "LISA FISHER" who could blow practically any female vocalist out of the water. In fact, singers would hire Lisa to do background tracking and overdubs of their voices (we won't mention names here...) So, a group of record executives, wanted to show the world that there was another 'unknown' soprano R&B Diva out here. They paid handsomely and convinced Fischer to sing the song that she and Narada Michael Walden co-wrote. they also got her to do an entire album, "SO INTENSE". (Check it out. My favorite song is the title track itself.) Lisa humbly lives along-side "fame" and has probably been witness to the joy & pain it brings. For decades, she has earned millions doing what she loves. Singing. In fact, record labels, rock-bands and superstar-singers send private jets to pick her up after a show on one continent and jet her off to another continent just to make sure she arrives on-time to sing behind them! So, with a life like this... why bother with "fame"?
The AMAZING Lisa Fischer is who this is. She still performs today at 63 years old and is still just as phenomenal. She is everybody's favorite's favorite!
I recommend Stephanie Mills, her appearance at The Apollo, singing "Home" - it's amazing. And glad you listened to this one: Lisa F is an underrated talent who can sing circles around most megastars out there.
Lisa Fischer is badass; my favorite female singer of all time. She could do it all; a mixture of Whitney; Patti; Toni Braxton and Mariah. She enjoyed her work as a backup singer and chose to do that through most of her career. She can still hit that F6 to this day. She sang back up for many talents; Luther Vandross; The Rolling Stones: Dolly Parton; Tina Turner; the list goes on and on. Extrodinary talent and so beautiful to boot!
she's the best female vocalist Her her high belts and headvoice is killer this song is vocal is vocal suicide It's sad she doesn't get enough recognition like Whitney and Mariah
I was listening to some older songs and I was just wanting so much for the younger people to hear our music it is so good and I saw this young man Mr. Pierre the great thank you so much for including our artist from the past.
I came across your video and I love Lisa Fischer she sings her ass off and she still sing just like that today❤😊 have you ever heard of LTD Love ballad check it out.
She got that door closed on her as far as a super career went. In other words she was not giving up some ass to make it. Instead she went through the back door which was to be a back up singer to many popular stars and bands. Salute to the legend.
You have to watch the Documentary "20 Feet from Stardom" It talks about all the backup singers, especially the black up singers that gave that extra flavor that was needed in the rock songs coming out from The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and a lot of other acts. Lisa, even though she won a grammy for this song, she was not comfortable being in the spot light and went back to singing backup for many acts including the Rolling Stones, Luther Vandross and many other acts. The other backup singers in this documentary said, that Lisa Fischer owns that space (backup singing space) She is heavily featutred in this documentary. They mentioned the song Take a walk on the Wild side by Lou Reed. "When you hear Lou Reed sing "And the Colored Girls go do da doo doot da doot do!" He was talking about this very thing about the back up singers giving the seasoning that rock and roll needed. You should check it out. Excellent Documentary!
Her name is Lisa Fisher she’s been a background singer for the best in the business !! She also the late great Luther Vandross protege / Mentor ! Her voice is so beautiful she never wanted the spotlight she preferred to sing background
You said you never heard of Lisa Fisher. But then you said she has an amazing voice. Then you tried to come back and say you hope she has an amazing voice. Like.......Ooops lol.
31 years later this is how she sings the same amazing song with far more incredible vocal gyrations and control.....enjoy !!! ruclips.net/video/6gs_Lcsi5CI/видео.html
Big ups summer 1990 I was 13 and this track was crazy on the radio all summer this track was dum wild she still sings crazy like this watch the official video to this and peep it live she older b but she still dead sound like this 😩🤍💯
It was NOT a great song, bruh. Good singer. And she seems like a thoughtful and kind person in her interviews, but this song is like some kind of crime scene. 😂
She is a wonderful, talented singer; but this song... it used to scare me back in the day. Sounded like she was bout to go loco over some guy who was using her; often knock knock knocking on her door for "some". She knows she shouldnt be sleeping with him but she keeps letting him in. This mess has got her screaming and hollering and singing into the emotional soaring "way-up-there" octave range. He dont want her. He is using her. He needs to be arrested for breaking her heart. I'm calling the police. Wait. I think I will call him myself. "Buddy. Get lost!" Lol. Jk. But yeah. I used to be scared of this song. Edit: Not too many songs scared me. But there are a few. I am just now realizing they are all sung by broken-hearted women, who apparently "dropped them". (Uh...undergarments) I wont tell what songs they are... but if she sung like a siren about a dreadful sexual affair ... i was backing slowly out the room. Half way bout to bolt right now! Lol

There's Lisa Fischer - and then everyone else. Beautiful voice - face- and legs!
I love the fact that all these years later shes being rediscovered and appreciated by a new generation of fans. She is such a genuine and kind and talented woman. She deserves EVERY accolade ....
I understand the shock of today's youth but , it's insane they don't know who she is. But love the reaction
