I'm a girl of 15 years old, surrounded with people that listen to Melanie Martinez, Bieber, Swift and other of that type of stuff, and I'm here listening to fucking GUN from the 90s. If we're talking about the rock n' roll vibe: I'm the living proof. I hope there are still othere teens like me and that we will keep this genre alive!
You have GREAT taste in music then, all those pop fans that your surrounded by should take a leaf out of your book and ditch those shitty pop artists and listen to REAL MUSIC! Good for you. \m/ Keep on rockin' !!
I think these guys were just a bit older than yourself when bought out the album"" taking on the world..": ...awesome. Album for such young coming.out of Scotland
When I was 14 my dad took me back to Scotland, to visit family. Unbeknownst got me, my uncle Derek played guitar for gun for around 2-3 years! I was to young to remember now, but I listened to them onstage at a festival. Experience of a lifetime.
One of the most under-rated bands of the late 80s/early 90s. Taking on the World is a cracking album. I feel very luck to have seen the original line up live on several occasions back in the day.
Saw GUN opening for the Rolling Stones on is Steel Wheels tour 1990 in Barcelona Olimpic Stadium. 😲👍 GUN is youth energy on stage, God bless these boys. Greetings FROM BCN.💪💪💥💪💪
I forgot all about this band and song for at least 20 years - probably closer to 30 really !! So glad I finally rediscovered and remembered it , cuz as I read in some of the other comments , we truly need 'em now more than ever !! Great band , great song !! Love the Norton motorcycle in the video - nice touch to let you know that these guys are more than likely lads from Britain !! ❤️💋😜👍💪😎🥸
They played a live session out the first floor window of Tower Records in Glasgow some time back in the 1990s. Almost stopped all traffic on Argyle street.
I just read the old Tower Records building is going up for auction. £1.7m they're looking for. The memories of that building will live with me forever.
back to being a student, walkman on, dodging classes, playing cards in the refectory, playing practical jokes on the whole damn building ..... never got better than this - those were the better days.
There was a time...my dear friends...when all you need to make good rock music was a good band, classic instruments and some very powerful boosters ...!
I would like to thank Classic Rock magazine for having this Gun album in their Top 100 Greatest 80's Albums. Never heard of 'em. In Australia in the 1980's we didn't get to hear (or see) lots of stuff. Thanks.
I took my car to a mechanical shop here last year and this band was playing on the youtube. Man How could I miss this band all these years. Today I listened to 3 albuns during my shift
ok lets discuss-- my love for this band started so long ago im not sure what year it was but picture it late 80's at a store in cumberland RI called Ann &Hope they had cassette tapes all on sale and i just reached in grabbed this said yea they look cool-- no googling no internet just my awesome instincts for good music! Never regretted that purchase they won me on the first song --this one!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Holy shit I have been looking for these songs for years. I remember my Dad had this album and he recorded it for me on tape as I loved it. Have not heard it in a long long time and can still remember the words. Loved this album.
I remember buying this cassette in ‘89 when I was 20 and really thought they were gonna be BIG! Keep wondering what happened… the whole album was really fricking GOOD! I still have the cassette… Course, I have nothing to play it on, but I’m NEVER gonna let go of my old cassettes… too many great memories attached to them.
gun was epic i grew up listening to throughout my teens up to when i was 20.Mark rankin is 3rd best rock vocalist of my generation. We all need better days in 2021.from shaz in the uk.
This was the first video of this band, I saw ( about 30 years ago ; ). Those good times, still in my mind ( I got they first vinyl record from a local music store ). This song of Gun is still pretty good. Imo ; )
Did the lead singer pass away , noticed on the new sessions he is not with them . Taking on the world is my fist CD of this band . a true one of a kind band.
Over the years, I've bought some albums on the strength of hearing one track only. Solid Air by John Martyn, Pornograffiti by Extreme, and Taking on the World by this band. It's a joy to take the risk on paying good money for something you've never heard in full, and discovering the whole album is a belter. This one is no exception and more than most, still holds its head higher than many other artists. Oh, and just a thought. I've bought some albums on the strength of hearing one track and have been absolutely dire. Needless to say, they're not in my CD collection. Hope a few more teenagers find this album, and hey. Nothing wrong with leather jackets and jeans. They're a cut above most youth fashion I see in the streets today. And bare in mind, the two guitarists in Gun at the time of this album were only seventeen years old. And the fashion that was to dominate this country soon afterwards was the dreary Brit Pop bags. At least Bernard Butler was able to carry the flag in the early days of Suede. Regards, Nick the Pensioner. 🦽
I remember this song when it first came out 1989-90 and loved the song, afterwards i forgot the song lyrics band name so it was lost but never forgot the song, then one day I heard it on the radio in 2017 it took 27 years to be reunited.
89.. The Advent of Acid House and Ecstacy.....bad time as a rock band to try and become BIG.... And I'm somebody who grew up on Heavy Rock/Metal, but who also embraced Acid House as well.... Bad timing for them, that's what I'd say....
What I would give to have the isolated drum track to put this in my pub rock set,,too difficult to program, the drummer is amazing ! Better days is up there with The Boys are Bqdk Thin Lizzy ,,absolute classic!!
Cant listen to this loud enough. Saw em live in exeter uni standing next to the rig getting my jeans blown off spilling larger ,smoke everywhere boy they were better days
Who are the 53 dicks on thumbs down,,if youre here because youre a rock fan how can you not hear and see a classic track..Sizzling guitar work, great drummer ,great vocals and a fantastic song.Gun for me were the natural progression from Thin Lizzy ,maybe the inspirational Brian Robertson Glasgow connection ? Better management or relocating in America should have seen their star rise even higher ,wish thier original singer would return,no disrespect to the Dante brothers.Gun or Bon Jovi,, no brainer !
This song is more relevant today than ever. Great Song!
That's totally right! I agree 100%

One of the most under-rated bands of the late 80s/early 90s.
Taking on the World is a cracking album.
I feel very luck to have seen the original line up live on several occasions back in the day.

So did I. The old Wembley Stadium - very impressive.
Saw them at Hampden supporting the stones and they were and still are brilliant.
I forgot all about this band and song for at least 20 years - probably closer to 30 really !! Totally agree with you, Ander. They deserved a lot more recognition...
And from my native Glasgow.
I played the album over and over. The new album is excellent.
back to being a student, walkman on, dodging classes, playing cards in the refectory, playing practical jokes on the whole damn building ..... never got better than this - those were the better days.
Loved Watching The World Go By, Steal Your Fire, Taking on The World, etc. It's all good!!!
God this is when music was music, not the crap they call music on the radio.
Saw Gun on this tour 30 years ago in Elgin, Scotland ....God where did that time go?
The 80s and 90s were much better days.
There was a time...my dear friends...when all you need to make good rock music was a good band, classic instruments and some very powerful boosters ...!
Yeah no wot u mean but unfortunately them days r gone
@@garycowie8648 no they are not, bands just aren't promoted like they used to be. There are still good bands out there who have talent and originality
my favourite scottish metal band
Summer of '89 vividly etched in memory thanks to songs like this...
Same here , good times .
When youngsters were digging solid rock 🙌🏻🎸
They were the Better Days back then. Not now
One day, when Jesus returns...
Better days indeed.... late 80's and 90's were the time to grow up..
I would like to thank Classic Rock magazine for having this Gun album in their Top 100 Greatest 80's Albums. Never heard of 'em. In Australia in the 1980's we didn't get to hear (or see) lots of stuff.

I somehow found Taking on the World on vinyl, late 80’s early 90’s OZ. Being into guns, I bought it and it was excellent !! 🤘🏼
I took my car to a mechanical shop here last year and this band was playing on the youtube. Man How could I miss this band all these years. Today I listened to 3 albuns during my shift

They became big at the third album with the monster hit Word up 🙌🏻🎸
Alongside Nazareth have to be the best Rock band to come out of Scotland .Roll on this Saturday at the Barras!
First album has no weak tracks 👌
As a teenager in the mid '70's punk brilliance, this band restored my faith in music some 15 years later. What a band -love them.
Everyone in 2020 is hoping for better days right now!!
I live out in the sticks so hardly even noticed the pandemic

This band is the second best thing that ever came from Scotland (only behind Millennial Woes)

Proper music can't beat the genre pure and simple.
Such. A. Great. Song!!
Killer tune! Killer album! Killer band! Pure European hard, feeling and virtue, makes Guns N' Roses sound like The Monkees
It's amazing this band didn't sell millions of records back then. They were and are so good

Beautiful and meaningful song !!
YEAHHHH!!!!!
I like this team since i was 18 years old...

Still one of the best live bands you'll ever see. No half measures with the boys. Much heavier live....

They have a sort of.. Canadian feel to them.
Plenty of folks of Scots ancestry in Canada, so... 🙂

Dream on! Gun were good but DL rocked the house down. I saw them on that tour too! How old are we.....
Well the first song on the 1992 "Gallus" album was "Steal Your Fire" so I guess GUN were being true to their word and lyrics. Awesome band !!
