Through the Plantagenet and Tudor families. We all would most likely find the same in some way. But not all would find it to be grandparents perhaps and it would be more distant for most. My family is related to some of the Presidents of the U.S. but not the same ones as my husband, which would be for my husband Pres George Washington, (actually for this Pres my husband would be a great-nephew (forgot how far back as last time) as he did not have children) So my husband would be related to The Pres. @@ME-eu9sf Doesn't make him French. Born in England and Identified as an Englishman and actively warred against the French, whom he loathed. You learn your history.
@@falconpunch8734 Indeed. Not from France, but still "French". Henry V was definitely the 1st king that was more "English" than "French". Richard Lionheart for example spent only some months of his life in England.
Not in Alfred's league in all aspects but up there in sheer determination. He may be second only to Alfred as the force to be reckoned with. Absolute monarch.
Alfred's situation was far more desperate and urgent then I would say any of Edward's predecessors or successors, except for Edwin the Confessor, the last Anglo-Saxon king of England who was defeated by William the Conqueror's Norman forces at Hastings in October 1066. Some English(or British) historians equate that year of 1066 and that battle as one of the most momentous and irrevocable in history of British isles. Alfred, 2 centuries earlier, didn't have a unified England to work with to fight on foreign invasion of Danish Vikings, who actually set up a rival English and Scottish kingdoms called the Danelaw in 878 C.E. and ruled these kingdoms, including York, until 933 CE. Even after the fall of Danelaw, Scandinavian Viking still remained a existential threat to Anglo-Saxon England for the next 150 years, even briefly conquering it again under Danish Viking king Canute I. If Alfred's Wessex had fallen or been defeated, more then likely the shape, political, religious, and cultural dimensions of England might've been vastly different then even what occurred 1-2 centuries later. By the late 9th century, many Vikings were still devout pagans and although were familiar with Christianity, many missionaries hadn't had much success converting many pagan Norse Vikings, that process was a very slow, gradual one and in some respects it wasn't peaceful and it was forced. These Danish Vikings probably would've imposed their own religion on many English living in their newly-conquered lands. From the very start of the Viking Age, the Norse most favorite country to invade, pillage, raid and conquer was their first: England. I can definitely imagine some Viking chieftain imposing more of their traditions on their English subjects more forcefully then Canute ever did 150 years later, and Canute was a Christianized Viking. Also, keep in mind that Anglo-Saxon England hadn't been converted to Christianity too terribly long before the first Viking raids began, in some remote areas, like Mercia, some commoners and nobles alike secretly worshipped many of the old Anglo-Saxon Germanic deities like Wotan or like modern-day Vodou worshippers in Haiti and West Africa synthesized the two. It was an environment the Viking conquerors could've exploited if they'd chose to in rallying support against Alfred's Wessex kingdom but mostly, they didn't follow through on any such policy. I would argue that along with 1066 Battle of Hastings, the most historically important date or event in history of British islands was Claudius Roman invasion of England in 43 CE that by the end of the first century C.E., saw the creation of a Roman-administrated colony that comprised all of modern England, Wales, and periodically parts of southern Scotland. I believe the Romans left far more of a lasting political, economic and national legacy that permeates and persists 2,000 years later after the first Roman invasion galleys landed near Kent in 43 CE. Many later Anglo-Saxon English/ British kings, nobles, generals, priests, philosophers, commoners, reformers, even revolutionaries tried to emulate, model, or fashion some aspect of Rome on the country or on the world stage like the name Britannia, was a Latin word the Romans called England, Caledonia was Scotland, Hibernia is Ireland. The British Empire borrowed a lot of its imperial imagery, ethos, forms of governance, imperialist views of conquest, domination of 1/5th of the world's population by 1900 from Rome's large, expansive empire.

That's not saying much for the Kings of England is it?
Wow, I'm both informed and impressed. Keep up the good work!
Indeed 👍☺️ I love this channel it's so informative also it does by far the best documentary on RUclips for Henry V, I was very happy when I seen it uploaded on to this channel and he's also my favourite King of England too ☺️👍
I love learning about my ggg (can’t recall how many) grandfather and grandmother from my fathers side. You can’t choose who your ancestors are. I’m also related on my mother’s side to his enemies! LOL The devotion and love he had with Eleanor is one of my favorite things about him! It shows his human side. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
He's my 21st great grandfather.
He is also a great grandfather ( I forgot how many too) for my husband, It is on his mother's side of the family. The bible must be right, in the end, if we search enough we would find we are all related in one way or another. It would go back to Adam and Eve in the end in the end.
My husband's Great Grandfather ( still would need to look it up again to know how far back) but King Henry the 2nd and 3rd and on down through Royals today. Bushes and also Pres Coolridge, as they too are related to the Royal family that we have found and traced to my husband. Even Princess Diana was a distant cousin as to the Royal family and Kate Middleton also is a distant cousin. Am sure all others noting the relationships would be the same if they connected it? It is so interesting how close we are to so many we have never met in person. But places like this brings us together in a small way.
Carol Weaver I believe it is! Some words may be off but the I believe it to be true too! We have many links it seems! I’m related to those people too! 🤗❤️👌🏻👍🏻

Even his nickname "Longshanks" sounds badass.
He literally frightened a Bishop to death. Says it all.
The name literally was spawned from him being a really tall, athletic, physically imposing guy. He was also a warrior prince and king if there ever was one.

Aside from fiction, it's crazy to me when I think about relatively distant history and how different and similar folks lives and world was. But I find it even stranger to think that our own times are other people's distant or ancient past. All our pressing concerns for the world and entire lifetimes are at best but a half attended one sentence footnote remembered barely long enough to pass a test by future high school students in the galactic republic that's slowly turning into an empire, or some other thing we can imagine less well than an 11th century peasant, Roman centurion, pharaoh or Mesopotamian city state member could imagine today.
And Isabella was the inspiration of Cersei Lannister 😉 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabella_of_France. And yes: similar scheme was in the book like en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_de_Nesle_affair

It is easy to label someone else's life from snippets of their life as we all have victories and failings. Edward "Longshanks" accomplishments for England and Britain are his legacy.

Great job with the documentary!
