You’re 65 I’m 71. We’re still kids on that rickety bus taking the long way around the block whilst absolutely devouring the contents of the latest edition of Sounds and dreaming about the imminent release of Close to the Edge. We’ve come from an unbelievable era where time as we know it didn’t exist. Where music was our escape into the netherlands of timeless time. When you speak from the heart Phil I’m back there every time. Every video you make is a joy forever. Don’t ever stop spinning ok! God bless from Ireland 🇮🇪
“Fifty bands I hate part six but this time it gets really serious” you my friend get it, and I’m so glad to hear someone say it, to call out the crap that gets the most views from people
Phil, you celebrate music. That's the joy of this channel, and why we keep coming back. Sure, you don't get as many views as others, but those of us who watch your content regularly are - I daresay - like you. We can't get enough of this box set or that remaster; it's what we love, and that's all it should be. It's refreshing to see a music criticism channel that focuses on the joy of art and nothing more. Leave this up. J
It is staying up! Ironically the algorithm liked this video but I just hope it helps others. My next video might appeal to 4 blokes in a pub, but that will be fine as well. Phil :)
You just do what you do Phil . Your content is always positive and , dare I say it , uplifting . On a personal level I can say here that you have opened me up to some amazing bands and artists . Good for you Phil ❤😂
The internet is full of clickbait and is literally overflowing with negative content. I like Sea Of Tranquility a lot and Andy Edwards has some good, albeit quirky videos. However, the reason I visit Now Spinning is because of the positivity and enthusiasm for music. I enjoy the interviews, rankings, overviews of classic albums, and the great album/CD box set reviews. So please keep doing what you're doing without influence of other music channels. Take Care!👍💿🎸
Yes totally agree. I enjoy SoT, Andy Edwards and the Prog Corner but Phil has something special and unique with his channel. I don't care which channels have the most subs or who is making the most money- it means nothing. I follow the people I like.
I agree, and all any of us can do is not click on it. The more people that don't click on it, the less ad revenue is given to the creator and then they have to find other ways to generate income.
Greetings from Central California, Phil! Your positivity is what keeps your 16.5k (and growing) fanbase tuning in. If people want to see someone slag-off on other bands there's plenty of that to choose from too. Keep going with the positivity - saying something isn't your cup of tea is far from being negative, it's being honest (something else that is a strong suit of your channel). I'm 2 years younger than you but when I listen to Uriah Heep Live or Loggins & Messina On Stage, I'm thinking about that 13-year-old that just joined the Columbia House 8-Track Club in 1974. Cheers To You!!
Phil, you are a man of rare integrity. I admire you for being a person who follows his own path, you stick with your convictions rather than taking the easy way with the algorithm. That is why I keep coming back and watching. Being also "a bloke of a certain age" it can be disheartening, to see all the negativity that people turn to because it sells. Always stay true to your self.😀
Phil. One of the biggest reasons why I subscribe to your channel is the constant positivity you bring and showcase for the albums you’re about to review. When you review an album I know I’m gonna get positively good vibes and inspiration to buy something. I love that. Being positive and enthusiastic is a real safe haven and I don’t take that for granted. Your musically gifted spirit is wonderful and I love the stage of your life you are in. Thank you kindly 😅
Phil, you are indeed a light in the black:) I salute you. I, too cannot understand nor subscribe to the myriad of clickbait titles on this platform. The creators who value and champion honesty, integrity and passion for their subject are few and far between. Take a bow Phil Aston, Pete Pardo, John from Liar of the Alchemist and a handfulof others.Godspeed!
We are kindred spirits and at 68 share that passion for music. Never a musician , worked in the music business for 10 years and listen to my CD collection most days. Don’t do any streaming etc and don’t feel the need . Rock on Phil
Phil, from the first time I caught one of your videos. You have been a breath of fresh air. You have often commented on my comments. Which amazed me, so thank you again. Being 66 myself, you really remind me of my teenage years. Time spent with friends buying records, going to concerts and rock disco's. It is a special gift you have and from what i can see and read, people think so too. Keep doing what you do.
This video does you great credit Phil. I love your enthusiasm about music, even if the artist doesn’t appeal to me personally. Your honesty is so refreshing. Videos like the ones you describe are clickbait and when they use the word ‘hate’, it really means ‘don’t get and therefore don’t listen to’. We’ve all got bands we feel that way about, but why would anyone else be interested? You deserve to make a success of this. Keep doing things your own way. It matters and it is valued.
I’m 100% with you - I am interested to know what you like and like your positive reviews. I have never watched any “10 worst albums” etc reviews, I’m simply not interested. I’m looking to find new music to enjoy and what you do now hits the nail on the head. So, for me, stay as you are
Excellent video. I was on RUclips before the algorithm crap started. When it did, I lost about 50% of my views, as some of my subscribers would no longer be notified of my new videos. It's been frustrating ever since. I just make a wide variety of videos and try to stay positive, but it is fun to do an occasional worst bands, songs, albums video, but I don't take it that seriously. I also do a series called "Does This Album Suck?" for albums that most fans dislike, but more than 50% of the time when I listen to the album for the first time, it's not that bad, so I turn a negative into a positive. I just try to be myself just like you but there is a lot of B.S. on RUclips for sure.
Hi Larry, thank you for watching and sharing your experience. I have mentioned you in my December update video which goes out tonight. You were one of the first youTube channels to have me on a guest and and that really helped in the early days. Your support when I first encountered negativity was also very kind and you enabled me to put it into perspective. Thank you - Phil
Good for you Phil ❤. I love your channel for the love and enthusiasm you show for music - it's the place where I find comfort and solace and long may it last!
Well said, Phil. I feel exactly the same. I'm 60 years old and run an FB group called NWOBHM Soundhouse with exactly the same ethos and pretty much the same reasons. There is no pressure other than the pressure I might apply to myself. Having run other groups I've learned a lot about the pressures that can come with such things and made decisions that have stood me in great stead with this group. We are fortunate to be of an age were we don't have to do stuff for the wrong reasons and maybe the responsibility is on us to head towards the positive. As you can see I have a YT channel but it is purely for playlists that complement the group. I have no other interest in YT personally so no stake in that particular form of media. But negativity also sells on other types of platform sadly. Great watch, thank you - and wise words.
Excellent video Phil - refreshing (in the algorithm-run YT world) passion, honesty and old-school decency. I don't need the BS clickbait hyperbole channels, looking to scrape a few more cents of ad revenue by sellng themselves out. Life has always been thus - sell out to sell quick, crash and burn, or slow build credibility, reputation and long-term value. Maybe the kids (ie anyone under 40!) today are too dependant on the short-term hit and validations-of-views. There's still plenty of space for a different approach, with the different values. I'm with you.
Phil, I'm so pleased that you made this. I feel exactly the same way. There aren't bands that I hate, just some I'm indifferent to, but they have their fans too. Music is so personal, and no-one's wrong. I so enjoy spending time in your online company, and never come away feeling bad. Thank you for always having integrity, humanity, and being part of the whole musical world.
You're preaching to the choir here Phil. No more drama required, just your passion and honesty. The only drama needed is that opening 60 seconds of Speed King when Ritchie explodes! (the extended version of course) If you ever want to hear the Best opening explosion from him, look up "Rainbow Atlanta 1978" recorded for King Biscuit Flower Hour. The opening of Still I'm Sad. Ultimate drama! Cheers again and glad the storm has passed over there, Pat
Well said, Phil. This toxic nonsense has resulted in my no longer watching 2 music based RUclips channels and unsubscribing from them in the last week. I want to hear positivity about new music that I can also get enthusiastic about. Your channel provides this in spades. More power to your elbow.
I have to say Phil I’ve always found your attitude and presentation style calming and that is what above all else drew me here. I love physical media and music but the way in which it and is discussed here is quite refreshing and even though you don’t cover all of the music I like I keep popping my head in to see what’s going on. Touching on other life matters briefly brings a personal touch missing from other media outlets. Just keep doing what you do.
Wow Phil, for me this is a very, very important video. The principles behind it reach further than music fandom. It's not for me to say here when something or someone is wrong but I do wish people would think twice before jumping in to a situation that basically helps monetise hate. I'm totally behind you in this Phil. Here's hoping that the ripples of positivity you're creating travel far and wide.
Thank you so much for sharing this gem with us. Subscribed, Music 🎶 is the best healer we have it's been my continuous friend since i was a child. I have autism and am so misunderstood, school life and jobs were hell on earth and back in the sixties autism wasn't even on the radar so for those of us who have this condition the problems were rife. I discovered that Music made me feel extremely happy at an early age and believe,Music saved me from a worse life. I only got diagnosed in 2020 after a life of misunderstandings and being incorrectly diagnosed by different GP's. Thank you Phil for your kind remarks and honesty ❤
Refreshing honesty and integrity that pushes against the tiresome swathe of hate and negativity out there. Truly appreciate your genuine enthusiasm for music. Retain your true voice Phil. Best wishes my friend.
It's your positivity for the music and your love of connection and conversation that is so grand! I appreciate that you cover what you want, because that has a story and makes life interesting.
I would rather listen to someone like yourself talking about a subject in a positive way than someone talking about how they hate this, that and the other. What you do and the way you do it Phil is a joy to listen to and we are all music lovers and it does not matter what genre you listen to if it lifts your spirit and makes you happy then keep on listening.
Phil, I have been Following you for a few years now. Speaking about Algorithm's, as you mentioned one could make a channel that spikes the Algorithm Up, However it soon becomes apparent that person really have nothing to say !! Your using the "Calculus approach on RUclips/ Facebook (etc.) (for me) , your dealing with changes in life, music, feelings. Your Sincerity and Integrity is Real !!! I watched other channels and yours is the only one I subscribed to ! I will leave it there and just say "Rock On !" All the best from the U.S.A. 🎧😁
Phil it's okay to be 65 because I'm the same age and I just subscribed to your channel. At this stage of life not many people can say they are doing something they really love. That is a true gift and should be cherished 💯👍
A very timely video, Phil. Integrity and authenticity in a world of increasing negativity, cancel culture and AI is a major challenge. I’m personally fed up of all the clickbait YT videos, social media and so-called ‘news’ articles that the algorithms put in my feed. I try to avoid them as they only perpetuate further and indeed ‘normalise’ views. Be real and stay true to yourself is my mantra. I increasingly disengage with social media which is frankly just toxic a lot of the time. Life is much easier, simpler and I feel better without it.
I just posted videos entitled “my favorite things” and “ten worst things.” Guess which one is getting more views!!! The algorithm sucks but you are amazing!!!!❤
Bravo Phil. When I walked in with Sabotage Black Sabbath & Live in Europe Deep Purple from Sundown records in Walsall my mom said oh why can't you just like Abba! Keep on Truckin'
Your passion for music always shines through, that's why we all come here, that's all that matters, this channel is not just a Tribute, it is The Best Song in The World!
“ I Hate Hate”….I listened to that the other day….great tune and message! Keep doing what you’re doing Phil! It’s a refreshing change and insightful conversation from many other negative YT channels….rock on!
Complete respect. You are a diamond in the rough. I’m nearly 60, and music has been my passion since being surrounded by my parents vinyl as a very young boy. I still buy physical media in abundance! It keeps me sane. Thanks for your channel. I love your unboxings and reviews. Keep it up, and don’t change a thing.😊🎸😎
Well said Phil, You've done what I at 64yrs started doing 10 years ago but didn't know where to take it.! You've inspired me to get it going again. I am a massive collector who'd love to share stories as you do..
Phil. I really needed that!! All the way from California wine country here. I've been a songwriter, band leader, guitar player and God knows what else since my teens. Played in bands, toured around, you name it. I'm in my fifties now and looking around this museum of posters, photos, and guitars hanging on the wall I started to think "maybe it's time to hang all this stuff up, what is it bringing you?" Between you and Pete Pardo I think I've been inspired to say "no. I'm not going to do that, this is what I love" I recently decided (during the pandemic) to remix, remaster and in some cases record for the first time, the entirety of my song portfolio and the works of the band. In honor of you I just cranked up "In Rock" on vinyl. Damn that's a barn burner eh?
Hi Phil. Firstly, thank you! Secondly, please don’t change - your approach is refreshing and relevant. I turned 60 this year and for the first time in 40 years(!) instead of following other people’s rules of trying to be popular above all else and chasing a dream of success, I’m creating music for me. If people like it it’s a bonus but like you it’s not why I exist as a musician. I’ve also had health issues, firstly physical and consequently mental but instead of them being restrictive it’s made me stronger as a person. I’ve had to dig deep and ask those important questions but hopefully I’ve been honest and true to myself. Keep on keeping on mate and have a great Xmas!
Thank you so much for sharing. Mental health issues can makes us stronger and it is really important to me that I use my influence here to help not harm. Phil
Phil, please keep this on the channel. I'm 68 and the thrill still remains when I purchase a new album or box set and equally so when I dig out an old musical treasure. I visit here because of the lack of click bait and the tedious comparison listings that dominate elsewhere. We are all musical friends here. Our music collections are a map of our life journeys which include memories both the good and the bad times but the music was always our constant companion.
Great video Phil, there are certain RUclips music contributors I enjoy watching, some more than others admittedly, I can't be bothered with best of, worst of etc, I get annoyed when someone starts a "thread" and then they all jump on the bandwagon.
Please just keep it as it is, Phil. I have only relatively recently discovered your stuff and your enthusiasm and positivity is a big part of the appeal of what you do. I'd also add that when it gets down to it, when you suddenly see a sixty six year old face looking back at you in the mirror each morning, as I do, that life is just too bloody short for yet more negativity, mock outrage and darkness. Keep it going pal and good luck.
@@walesdad l am also a 66yr old bloke and I totally agree with your comments although I tend not to look at myself in the mirror as much as I used to!!!
I have heard it said so many times by popular musicians when asked what they would advise to upcoming artists: ‘Be true to yourself’. Whatever became of integrity? Good on you Phil.
I agree with everything you said. I have a channel where I talk about music and other things I’m passionate about, such as film and TV, and occasionally I’ve gotten flack from people in the comments just because they don’t agree with my opinions on albums, songs, films, bands, etc. For example, I did a ranking of all 15 Pink Floyd studio albums, and someone got annoyed with me because I ranked The Final Cut and The Division Bell near the bottom of the list. I don’t hate those albums by any means, they just don’t click with me like other Floyd albums do, but I know there are Floyd fans who love those albums, and I respect that. But I didn’t let that person bully me into changing my opinion, I just stayed true to my honest thoughts, and that’s what I will continue to do. I apologise for my comment being too long, but this video was very helpful to me. I really needed it, so thank you, Phil.
You go Phil! Completely in agreement with you. I'd much rather watch a video of you telling me how much you like something than someone telling me how much they hate something. Keep up the good work! ❤ Oh, and great title for this video!
Thank you for sharing this refreshing viewpoint and your wise words, Phil. This sort of perspective is sorely lacking, not just on YT or FB, and not just in regards to music, but in the grander scheme of things. We can so easily get swallowed up by darkness, negativity and hatred because it's all around us. Having an outlet like Now Spinning, knowing that sort of thing is nowhere to be found, is an absolute blessing to all of us. Thank you for NOT choosing the easy route & not allowing yourself to be "bullied by computer code" strictly to gain extra views ... anyone can do that (and clearly they do), but it takes a man of conviction and morals to not do it. We all owe you a debt of gratitude for that & I sincerely hope, as others have said, that you decide to keep this video up for the long term. Cheers!
Hi Gary, I am keeping this video up - it seems to helping others on a level I had not thought of. It has also given me a lot more confidence in being this open in my videos. Phil
Phil i was told many years ago by an 80 year old guy i had a drink with in Turkey. You will never be anything less than you are . Wise words indeed ,a phrase thats kept with me ever since. Have a fantastic weekend my friend.
Simply loving all your heartfelt sentiments Phil. So refreshing in these often dark and cynical times. I’m about your age, growing up during the golden age of prog, but also getting an early passion for classical music, which is still my chief love. So I’ve had a fair amount of stick, but I’ve also enjoyed wonderful sessions with friends where I learnt to love some of their “odd” tastes and also had the thrill of seeing some of them overcoming preconceptions about my tastes. It’s all rock and roll, and for many of us it’s just about one of the most important things in our lives. Keep carrying on mate!
Really appreciate your channel, its a place I come to find new music that I may have missed over the years. The channels you talk about with the endless list/best of/worst of/top 10 videos don't interest me because music is subjective, "one mans shit is another mans sugar" as my dad used to say. What comes across here is your enthusiasm and love of the genre, I myself are of a certain age and I honestly don't think id have survived to this point without the power of music, so keep on keeping on brother.
Hi Phil. From someone of exactly the same age and doing a similar thing I warm to your comments and can see myself in a similar position. You speak with experience and knowledge and that is admirable and you are well worth a subscription and an enjoyable channel. Well done my friend
As you know, Phil, I started my channel in July, and it's been a hard struggle. I did try a hate video early on, and I didn't really like it. Most of my videos are ranking videos, and if I don't like a certain album, I say so. Anyway, Phil, you keep doing what you are doing because it works so well, and your channel is one of the reasons I started mine.
I instantly block any youtube recommendations like "10 REASONS WHY EVERYONE HATES THIS GUY"m or "THIS ROCKSTAR IS HATED BY HIS PEERS". You're doing the right thing. There is an audience for moderate knowledgable channels.
Keep it up Phil. There’s too much negativity on social media. I’m 61 and still remember the first time I listened to Quadrophenia and Made in Japan. I still get the same thrill now that I did all those years ago.
Well said Phil... Fantastic video... I so enjoy listening to your commentary, and couldn't agree with you more... Your words made my day... Keep up the great work ❤ Dan, Buffalo, NY, USA
Great video Phil. Continue being you. I've been suckered into clicking on sensationalist titles on thumbnails. I hate that. Thanks for you just as you are. God bless.
This is a safe haven and a reprieve from what often feels like a gathering, geopolitical storm. I get to hear about bands and music I'm not familiar with or only know on a superficial level. Then You Tube provides the option to watch and listen to wonderful live and studio recordings, which expands my experience further. For example, I recently discovered Free and Bad Company are more than a few distant, popular radio hits. This is because of Phil's thoughtful and heartfelt content. As a result, yesterday I purchased my first Free and Bad Company LPs. But that's not the main reason I watch this channel. The reason I subscribed to Now Spinning Magazine with Phil Aston is because Phil is just a lovely person and, as all good drummers know, the world desperately needs more Phils 💕 💕
I worked for many years as a writer about music and a critic and my main goal was to make people discover music outside the middle road. I wrote about classical music and did my best to steer listeners away from the old masters and to make them venture into the enormous amount of great music to be found by lesser known composers. It is the same with pop, rock and jazz. When I was 12 I played Butterfield Blues Band, Grateful Dead, CSN, Chico Hamilton, Herbie Mann, Blues Project, Moby Grape, Zappa and much else to my classmates. It's all about enthusiasm.
Dear Phil, your videos get better and better and better. I have followed you from almost the beginning and what attracted me was your enthusiasm, passion and compassion. If you were nasty, negative and 'algorithmic' I wouldn't be watching you now. Thank you for the comfort and hope you bring through the screen. I write poems ad song lyrics and one of my recent ones is entitled 'Some Things Are Worth More Than Money'. That's you. best wishes, Paul.
Those big blooming yellow arrows that have suddenly appeared plastered over all the thumbnails in recent weeks!!!!! I'm 63 Phil and everything you say in this video resonates with me. The sudden realisation that most of life is behind you makes you reevaluate life and what's important. Watching old episodes of Top of the Pops from the 70s and 80s and realising that the passage of time- the 40 and 50 years- going back in the other direction from the shows broadcast date takes us into the 1920s and 30s! That's when you really appreciate how much time has passed. We are now 1/4 of the way through the 21st century- change is rapid and the century now has its own clearly defined culture/history and style- just as the 1920s were the first decade that we could clearly differentiate from the Victorian era due to changing fashion style and technological developments. Your comments about thin skinned artists is so true- all creative folks tend to be very highly strung and suffer a higher rate of mental health issues than others in society. It's just too easy be nasty and it depressingly works for many- just ask Trump. I've always detested music snobbery- that kind we grew up with at school where your music choice could be sneered at and where quite frankly here in the UK during the 60s and 70s racism and misogyny played a major role in music. I can remember being at UNI during the late 70s when we would all sit in the common room to rip Top of the Tops to shreds- sexist, homophobic and racist comments were the accepted norm. I cringed at the time as a lover of Soul, R&B and many superb female artists. This has been airbrushed out of the history of the era. It does seep through on the online forums from time to time- the narrow minded boomers who disparage anything released post 1979. It's nice to be nice- it's deeply satisfying and you can sleep much more contently at night.
I'm right on board with you Phil, I remember bands going on tour and refusing to play certain tracks live, forgetting that the tracks in question might literally have saved someones life once, Sometimes we forget what is really important, negativity eventually just ears itself and fails, to be honest, I don't really get tribute bands but then I'm old enough to have seen the bands live back in the day, not everybody is that lucky, At the end of the day it's just the music that matters and what it means and how it has actually affected your life.
I subscribe to many music sites, and many have succumbed to this nonsense. Stay true, Phil! You have one of the finest music shows on RUclips. Thanks for your keen insights on past and current artists.✌️
Love what you do Phil. And love your positivity and you make me feel less on an island all the time. We grew up an ocean apart and I’m two years behind you but I’m always amazed how much on same page I feel. You’ve inspired me in so many ways. Keep it up we are here because you are exactly how you are. Thank u for that !
Hey Phil We love what you do, informative and true to yourself. I'm 65 also, yeah my first proper gig was Budgie in '74 when I was 15. I hate 'the hate' on the internet, why can't people just be nice or keep their mouths shut..they wouldn't say it face to face would they? Keep up the great work mate.
I’m 42, and I can’t agree with you more. Thank you for this video. I don’t think it’s an age thing. I think it’s about respect for the things we love. As music lovers, we’re kind of losing that, collectively. Your comments section is a cut above most others. More intelligence, knowledge, experience, and positivity. You’re right. The vibe of your channel draws people like that. For many other music channels, the comments are unbearable to me. You, SoT, Brendon Snyder, and VERY few others are exceptions. We need more like you, Phil, not like them. Screw the trends. You said something several times that really impacted me and told me exactly who you are: “you can trust ALL Black Sabbath records”.
Hi Phil, please don’t take down this video, I watched it on the bus to work and it changed my whole day because you spoke to me and I agreed with everything you said, I see no use in being negative sure there are albums posted on the Facebook group that I wouldn’t play but why say anything and like you I still read the post just in case there’s a story behind that album. Keep up the good work Now Spinning is the first place I look because I know everything will be good. I feel part of a community and that’s very important to me. Best wishes all Steve⚡️
Thank you that was a really stirring video… believe me Phil you don’t have to justify why you do what you do, it’s true and it’s honest and it’s why we, your subscribers, are here! There is enough negativity and anger around in other people’s music related videos and comments sections…theatrical and shallow and ultimately hurtful to many that view them. I turn away from hate these days not in favour of sanitised, safe content necessarily but because my first love and passion is and always will be, music which doesn’t need false sensationalising…it speaks for itself! Please don’t ever lose heart Phil, as it says in Desiderata “be yourself” my favourite mantra in life.
"When you do things from the heart, you dont have any competition" great quote! Don't change for an algorithm. Even if I don't like all the bands or titles you show I still enjoy watching. Your positive attitude and enthusiasm is infectious and appreciated! keep up the good work
Phil, we’re the same age. I love your videos. You must carry on following your principles Phil, they are a real possession of true worth in a world that seems very short of principles. We don’t have to follow the trend like sheep, we can operate on a higher level of emotional intelligence. You’re so right about the impact of music, it always brings a smile to my face when I remember my group of friends going to see Black Sabbath four nights running at Hammersmith Odeon in early 1977, it was crazy really but we were 17 at the time so why not!? 😎👍🏼
Hey Phil, I'm just in from work. I waited all day to comment on this video, which I saw this morning & I still can't find the words to express my feelings. But here goes, thank you for everything you do here it's a wonderful, safe place to come & enjoy music without judgement or question. There are loads of bands I don't like, you know what I do about them....nothing it's so draining being negative. Why would you spend time on something that just gets you worked up just ride on by because those bands will be somebody's favourite & who am I to tell them they're right or wrong. I will look into seeing if I can get more involved here its tough at present. Biggest respect and appreciation for you & your work. Rock on. 😎
I am with you Phil, 100% You are you, unique with positivity, which is a rare thing these days it seems, and i delight in the passion and love of the music just the same, aged 69, and enjoy your postings here! I still get excited about new bands and new releases old and new just the same as that 18 year old on the bus with the newly released Selling England By the Pound or Lark`s Tongues in Aspic, or Khruangbin in 2024 !
Love your work Phil. You have introduced me to so much wonderful new music, with so much enthusiasm and knowledge. Age matters nothing .. the music is priceless and timeless.
I love your honesty and fine reviews Phil. You come across as a very honest genuine person. We are all here because we love music and love and respect your reviews. Thanks again Phil.
Great video Phil. Please keep it available for viewing. I enjoy your channel because it is positive most of the channels that go onto the negative side. I quickly grow tired of keep up the good work.!
I said it before Phil, the reason i subscribed to your channel was because of you, you the person, not you trying to be someone else, that somene else being a RUclipsr, but you, the genuine straight talking Phil Aston. I have seen these videos your talking about, and I've watched a few out of pure curiosity, but I've really no time for them, there is enough negativity in the world without purposely watching it. Your channel is the most enjoyable of all the ones i subscribe to. Keep the vids coming mate, love them, even this one.
Hi James, thank you so much. Your words are very kind and very inspirational to me to keep doing what I do. Thank you so much for your support and being part of this journey - Phil
I am with you on all of your points. I really like your channel and approach. I appreciate that you are genuine and positive about what you present on your channel. We need more like this in this World today in many aspects of life. I happy to see and hear that you will stick to being you and will not change just for an easy gain. My favorite channels are by those who have a similar approach to yours. I prefer those who are genuine, honest and positive. I also like that your presentations are not over produced, over edited, etc. (nothing wrong with that approach either), but again, I prefer your approach and style, I really appreciated your work! :-) Cheers! :-)
Thank you - my earlier videos did in someways have higher production values but they were harder to create so I found i was doing less of them and not being as real
well said Phil. i love music and when there's something i dislike i just ignore it and move on, though, admittedly, i've had times where i was a little negative. we can have our own opinions, negative or positive, and even elaborate on it (constructive criticism!) during a discussion but there's little point in trying to ruin someone's day just for the sake of it or being negative about something all the time. your words allow me to take a look at myself (as a 22 year old music fan) and try to improve myself by choosing to focus on the positives, especially with all the awful stuff happening in the world. i think, in the end, some things will need to be said, positive or otherwise, but, if possible, we should avoid the negatives.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Let me tell you. You are not the only one who feels that way. Most of the times I don't feel social media is the right name for a lot of things I've seen out there. Zoocial media might be the right name. Been sincere doing what you love to do, hey for me that is teaching important things! I'm 51 by the way. God bless you and your family. Best wishes for all your future projects. Cheers! 👍
Social media can be a force for good but the algorithms seems to be obsessed with hate and conflict. I am choosing a far more difficult path but one that I feel is worth it in the long term. Knowing there are others that support me on this path makes me feel postive about the future. Phil
Beautiful video, and agree 100% with you Phil. Also, sensationalistic or click bait titles may work at the beginning but then become tiresome, and can be spotted from a mile away. Much continued success.
Great honest video. Thanks Phil. Don't change a thing. I'm here to celebrate and enjoy music, and your thoughts on music. It doesn't even matter if I like the music under discussion myself, as long as the conversation is passionate and interesting.
Agree 100% Phil, I'm late 60's and totally get what you are saying.... I have always maintained that it does not matter what music you like, if you get pleasure from it then its a wonderful thing and I would never knock anybody's choice in music. Love your channel, more power to you Phil 🙂
Please do not take this down. There are so many lessons in here that at least one of them will resonate with someone.
Hi Brian, it’s staying up ! Thank you for your support - Phil
You are a real gentleman: polite, modest, honest. Please stay that way!
I will, thank you for your kind words
You’re 65 I’m 71. We’re still kids on that rickety bus taking the long way around the block whilst absolutely devouring the contents of the latest edition of Sounds and dreaming about the imminent release of Close to the Edge. We’ve come from an unbelievable era where time as we know it didn’t exist. Where music was our escape into the netherlands of timeless time. When you speak from the heart Phil I’m back there every time. Every video you make is a joy forever. Don’t ever stop spinning ok! God bless from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you so much for your positive feedback. Phil
Well said CYBOT6 I'm 💯 behind you.
@@Lachlanmacdiarmid Very nice of you to say so!

Phil :)
Your an honourable man Phil, and your subscribers, patrons etc are grateful for it.
Hi Stephen, thank you so much ☺️
You just do what you do Phil .
Your content is always positive and , dare I say it , uplifting .
On a personal level I can say here that you have opened me up to some amazing bands and artists .
Good for you Phil ❤😂
I appreciate that - thank you - Phil
You are so right on! ❤
Well put👍💯
Yes totally agree. I enjoy SoT, Andy Edwards and the Prog Corner but Phil has something special and unique with his channel. I don't care which channels have the most subs or who is making the most money- it means nothing. I follow the people I like.
Thank you for your kind words and support - Phil
I agree with you 100%. I am sick of the clickbait nonsense. It is everywhere now, including on channels that I love, which is unfortunate.
I agree, and all any of us can do is not click on it. The more people that don't click on it, the less ad revenue is given to the creator and then they have to find other ways to generate income.
Thank you for your encouragement - have a great weekend - Phil
Brilliant!! Thank you for sharing - Phil :)
I will - thank you 🙏
Please never take this video down.
I promise
Thank you - Phil
Thanks!
We are kindred spirits and at 68 share that passion for music.
Never a musician , worked in the music business for 10 years and listen to my CD collection most days.
Don’t do any streaming etc and don’t feel the need .
Rock on Phil
Thank you - Phil
I worry for some RUclipsrs as this trend gets bigger. So many of them depend on negativity and I’m so glad that’s becoming known
Hi Barry , thank you for your kind words - Phil
Enjoy life, be positive, just do what you believe . Just be yourself and make this planet a better place. PEACE AND MUSIC is the healer.
Thank you for your kind words. I do hope that what I do here does add a little positivity into the world - Phil
Thank you Paul, that means a lot. Phil :)
Hate is in over-supply, you’re onto something with your approach, Phil
Thank you 🙏
I’m 100% with you - I am interested to know what you like and like your positive reviews. I have never watched any “10 worst albums” etc reviews, I’m simply not interested. I’m looking to find new music to enjoy and what you do now hits the nail on the head. So, for me, stay as you are
62 years on this planet and I agree wholeheartedly. Subbed and enjoying the channel. Thank you.
Thank you - Phil
@@NowSpinningMagazine Thank you, Phil. Looking forward to it!
Good for you Phil ❤. I love your channel for the love and enthusiasm you show for music - it's the place where I find comfort and solace and long may it last!
I appreciate that!
Thank you so much - Phil
Lovely video Phil...Authenticity is the new rock n roll...Quote of the week.."I hate hate"....
Thank you - I love that "Authenticity is the new rock n roll" Phil :)
Thank you - Phil
Quite simply, well said Phil. It is why I subscribe to your channel and Facebook group. Keep things as they are now, your positivity is infectious!
Thanks, will do!
Hi Ian, thank you so much for your comment - It is wonderful to know that what I do here helps others - Phil
Cheers, Phil! I'm grateful for all things NowSpinning.
Thank you - I feel being more open builds better trust. Phil

Hi Stuart, thank you for sharing. music is a healing force and so are the words and actions used around it. Phil

Hi Jerry, thank you so much for all your support and kind words - Phil
Phil it's okay to be 65 because I'm the same age and I just subscribed to your channel. At this stage of life not many people can say they are doing something they really love. That is a true gift and should be cherished 💯👍
Hi Ken, thank you for your kind words and taking the time to subscribe. I do love doing this and sharing my thoughts with like minded music fans. Phil
Im 63 and agree with you Phil. You seem to have lived the same life as me with regards to music and I share all your sentiment. Keep up the good work.
Thank you - Phil
Thank you Scot, the algorithm likes this one, but I imagine it is confused. Speak soon - Phil

Well said Phil, You've done what I at 64yrs started doing 10 years ago but didn't know where to take it.! You've inspired me to get it going again. I am a massive collector who'd love to share stories as you do..
Just start - be yourself, no one else is doing that - Phil :)
Hi Daniel, thank you so much for sharing - keep creating, the pilot light never goes out when you are a musician - Phil
This video is going nowhere now. The feedback has been very humbling - Thank you - Phil
Thank you for being with me on this journey. Life is short and I would rather spread smiles and joy than chase numbers. Take care Phil
@@walesdad l am also a 66yr old bloke and I totally agree with your comments although I tend not to look at myself in the mirror as much as I used to!!!
@@Lachlanmacdiarmid Believe me, I do try and avoid it as much as I possibly can.
Totally on board Phil! Music is the healer and the doctor!
I have heard it said so many times by popular musicians when asked what they would advise to upcoming artists: ‘Be true to yourself’. Whatever became of integrity? Good on you Phil.
Thank you - Phil
Your comment is not too long - thank you for sharing - keep going and just be yourself - Phil
You go Phil! Completely in agreement with you. I'd much rather watch a video of you telling me how much you like something than someone telling me how much they hate something. Keep up the good work! ❤
Oh, and great title for this video!
Thank you so much and for liking the title ( I almost changed it! )
Phil
Great video Phil - your approach, enthusiasm and positivity is greatly appreciated!

Wise words indeed ,a phrase thats kept with me ever since.
Have a fantastic weekend my friend.
What a fab quote! I love that and it is very true - Phil
Thank you 🙏
Really appreciate your channel, its a place I come to find new music that I may have missed over the years.
Thank you so much for you comment and for your support - Phil
Hi Phil. From someone of exactly the same age and doing a similar thing I warm to your comments and can see myself in a similar position. You speak with experience and knowledge and that is admirable and you are well worth a subscription and an enjoyable channel. Well done my friend
thank you - Phil
As you know, Phil, I started my channel in July, and it's been a hard struggle. I did try a hate video early on, and I didn't really like it. Most of my videos are ranking videos, and if I don't like a certain album, I say so. Anyway, Phil, you keep doing what you are doing because it works so well, and your channel is one of the reasons I started mine.
You are doing well - keep going - I have subscribed to you (sorry I thought I had already) Phil

Thank you so musc for your kind words and sharing your journey to Free and Bad Co - Phil
Thank you for sharing, I can relate to that very well - Thank you - Phil
Well said Phil! The world need more people who think about the consequences of their actions.
Thank you 🙏
Dear Phil, your videos get better and better and better.
Hi Paul, thank you so much for being here on this journey. I could not do it on my own and having supporters like you is just wonderful - Phil
What a fabulous comment, I totally enjoyed that and also relayed to it as well. Thank you for your support - Phil
Thank you Brian for taking the time to comment - I appreciate your support - Phil
I subscribe to many music sites, and many have succumbed to this nonsense. Stay true, Phil! You have one of the finest music shows on RUclips. Thanks for your keen insights on past and current artists.✌️
Hi Jim, thank you for your support - Phil
Thank you - Budgie are a fab band - Phil
Thank you so much! And yes it’s true, you can trust every Black Sabbath album - Phil
Phil, I love ❤ how honourable you are to the music, here and on your other videos, which reminds me of John Miles’ great song, Music.
Thank you 🙏
Hi Phil, please don’t take down this video, I watched it on the bus to work and it changed my whole day because you spoke to me and I agreed with everything you said, I see no use in being negative sure there are albums posted on the Facebook group that I wouldn’t play but why say anything and like you I still read the post just in case there’s a story behind that album. Keep up the good work Now Spinning is the first place I look because I know everything will be good.
I feel part of a community and that’s very important to me. Best wishes all Steve⚡️
Hi Steve, thank you for being part of the Now Spinning Magazine Community and all of your support - Phil
I’ve just turned 70 and you remind of so many things in my music journey please keep it up really enjoy your videos
Thank you 🙏
I come here BECAUSE there is no drama, but enthusiasm and information. Videos like this one give me hope.
Hi Trevor, thank you for your support and kind words. Phil
"When you do things from the heart, you dont have any competition" great quote! Don't change for an algorithm. Even if I don't like all the bands or titles you show I still enjoy watching. Your positive attitude and enthusiasm is infectious and appreciated! keep up the good work
Thank you - Phil
Phil, we’re the same age. I love your videos. You must carry on following your principles Phil, they are a real possession of true worth in a world that seems very short of principles. We don’t have to follow the trend like sheep, we can operate on a higher level of emotional intelligence. You’re so right about the impact of music, it always brings a smile to my face when I remember my group of friends going to see Black Sabbath four nights running at Hammersmith Odeon in early 1977, it was crazy really but we were 17 at the time so why not!? 😎👍🏼
Thank you for watching and sharing - I totally agree - Phil
Rock on. 😎
Thank you so much for your support - Phil
I am with you Phil, 100% You are you, unique with positivity, which is a rare thing these days it seems, and i delight in the passion and love of the music just the same, aged 69, and enjoy your postings here! I still get excited about new bands and new releases old and new just the same as that 18 year old on the bus with the newly released Selling England By the Pound or Lark`s Tongues in Aspic, or Khruangbin in 2024 !
Thank you for sharing and for your support - Phil
Love your work Phil. You have introduced me to so much wonderful new music, with so much enthusiasm and knowledge. Age matters nothing .. the music is priceless and timeless.
Thank you - Phil
I love your honesty and fine reviews Phil. You come across as a very honest genuine person. We are all here because we love music and love and respect your reviews. Thanks again Phil.
Great video Phil. Please keep it available for viewing. I enjoy your channel because it is positive most of the channels that go onto the negative side. I quickly grow tired of keep up the good work.!
Thank you 🙏 the video is staying up - the feedback has been amazing - Phil
This was another awesome episode of what you don't like especially with music
and such other things have a great week Thanks Phil.🎶🎤🎸🎸🥁🎹🎶
Thanks, you too!
This is one of the most honest videos i have seen for a long long time! Good on ya Phil!😀😀
Thank you - Phil
well said Phil. i love music and when there's something i dislike i just ignore it and move on, though, admittedly, i've had times where i was a little negative. we can have our own opinions, negative or positive, and even elaborate on it (constructive criticism!) during a discussion but there's little point in trying to ruin someone's day just for the sake of it or being negative about something all the time. your words allow me to take a look at myself (as a 22 year old music fan) and try to improve myself by choosing to focus on the positives, especially with all the awful stuff happening in the world. i think, in the end, some things will need to be said, positive or otherwise, but, if possible, we should avoid the negatives.
Very well said - thank you for your support - Phil
Thank you. Thank you.
Phil
@@NowSpinningMagazinegot it! 👍
Beautiful video, and agree 100% with you Phil.
Also, sensationalistic or click bait titles may work at the beginning but then become tiresome, and can be spotted from a mile away.
Much continued success.
Thank you 🙏
Great honest video.
Thank you 🙏
