I am 74years old I never lived in district six but as young boy I helped my cousin distribute the Cape Herald. Now every Monday I use to go to a house in district six which belonged to aunt Sammy Kavanagh and her Irish husband. All the newspaper reporters use to gather there like the famous Jackie Heyns,Norman West etc. These guys use exchange stories and have a few touts and I listened enthralled and here I became political aware of the plight of my people
Thank you for this wonderful presentation. District Six was the place of my birth. The people and the mountain were a part of my growing years. Forever in my heart.
I grew up in South Africa in the 1980s, our history lessons never taught us about areas like District 6 and the forced removal of the locals. Everything I learned about the Group Areas Act was from my family. My grand parents also lost their home in Mayville KZN because of segregation. They had to rebuild another home away from the city. Now that I live in Australia I am yearning to learn about the history of South Africa which was never spoken about when I lived there.
I believe that DISTRICT SIX is going to be redeveloped by the current democratic government and those families that were removed from district six will be given priority to move back . I really hope this this is going to happen soon as this will go ahead someway to redress the past If it happens . Additionally the houses that are constructed to a high standard so that the occupants can experience a real sense of pride in their homes .🙏🏼
It's been 50 years most people have died waiting on the present government it's now the children and grandkids waiting we were offered cash or a house many many many waiting for one or the other 😅
District 6 was a slum. The buildings were falling down big time. Nobody’s moved in there since they knocked it down. Because it was dangerous to live there.
Please acknowledge the music and musicians!

As long as there's a Table Mountain, there will be a District Six.
Where is the ‘amazing’ DA?! What have they done about this?! We are only good enough when it comes to numbers!

Come on, man. None of that justifies forced removals. It's the people's homes. Have a heart.
I've seen your ignorant and hateful comments on other district 6 videos. Educate yourself and have compassion
Yes the white Afrikaner rulers at the time used it as an excuse to get us out of the area they were after the mountain and sea views
Its all about money.
