Very well done! Having grown up in the destitute Cape Flats, I can say one thing - life is what you make of it. I've seen too many blame, hate, be angry & make excuses as opposed to taking responsibility. There is no substitution for hard work in a land filled with opportunity. Gov keeps failing and those with money get richer - use it as a driving force of motivation and not a crutch of hate. Forgive the past, do the best now & look forward to the future. Socialism wont work and communisim will destroy us.

It's the absence of any meaningful education to begin with - schools falling apart, no books to give to students, incompetent teachers. Add that to the structural problems generated by mass unemployment and mass poverty, and the correlation between wealth and skin colour that many people in South Africa see (a correlation, I should add, that is not necessarily causal, but is very often perceived as such) and you have South Africa circa 2021. i used to live there 20 years ago, I was just a 3rd grade and dont really recognize the issue because everyone was so nice, fun, they know how to dance, they know how to do 'real' BBQ and stuff. Worked in Ghana 2002, very poor country, and the workers getting paid 1,5 dollars a day, but nobody steals or do crime, best people in the world, ANC in 26 years made South Africa worse.
I returned to America from a 10-day stay in Ghana, mostly Accra. There is most definitely crime in Ghana. People do still. I know someone who had his cell phone stolen when I was there. Another guy had to flee Accra because he accepted money from people for an apartment that he did not deliver in. Another young man I was familiar with fled Accra because he had raped an underage girl. Ghanaians always warned me to not use my cell phone with the window rolled down because someone might snatch it. I could go on. I live Ghana but I will not romanticize it. Several people were killed during the recent unrest following the election. Murder is a crime. The police in Ghana engage in extortion non a regular basis in Ghana. That said, I love Ghana, but U will not romanticize it, just as I wouldn’t romanticize any other country I visit or live in.

Yes that's probably true. We only had the chance to be around Cape Town though and we only interviewed people around there. So it felt wrong to speak of whole South Africa if we were only in CT and surroundings. I hope that makes sense. Thanks so much for your comment!

I would like to disagree with you if you open to it. What we see now in SA is the aftermath of apartheid. This is proven by research. By that I am not saying that I overlook the current state of dire challenges we face as a country. But what we see now has happened before the only difference is that blacks are free

I live in Gauteng and have been in many places in this country. You go to any of the DA municipalities and there is a massively huge difference. That is in 8 years of leadership change. Can't be fixed. Multicultural societies have no unity or unifying symbols to center themselves around. It's impossible to build a nation this way. People will always take offense to other people's ways and they will always blame the other for their own shortcomings. This is even more evident if the two groups of people look different from each other. When I was younger I also believe in the utopian idea that very different people could come together through education and a little understanding. But after 20 years of travel, experiencing other cultures and living in other countries. I now understand just how naive I was. It turns out small differences in cultures and people can have vastly different outcomes over time. It's those small differences that make us who we are not the things we have in common with other groups of people. Humans are fundamentally tribal and territorial. It's part of our DNA, just like a wolf has the need to form packs. People only tolerate others when they are comfortable and the other is not a direct threat to them. But as soon as that comfortablity disappears, our tribal nature returns. You see it happening in Europe right now. People are quickly becoming less tolerant of others as their own security and comfortable lives are starting to be threatened. Unfortunately utopian ideas have always ended badly and with much bloodshed. Because they never take into account what a human being is, they only focus on what they think a human being should be. Usually in accordance to some misguided ideology. Only later they learn that reality takes no prisoners.

It Also depends on the type of people and culture you allow in. Some cultures are completely incompatible with each other. Also remember it's in all human nature to be surrounded by our own and to dominate the territory around them. The best way to do this is to increase you numbers in a new territory. This is where Europe has been very foolish. They have allowed foreign groups to take over both physical and political territory. This will ultimately lead to conflict with the native groups. Demographics is key to everything and needs to be managed responsibly if you want to maintain long term peace.

I was born and raised in Cape Town and this the best documentary I've ever watched telling this side of the world as it is. It will take us a very very long time to achieve equality amongst black and white.
The young man was so correct about what good is it to seize farmland when you don’t know how to farm, how income is made, or another suitable industry to establish. Surely it wouldn’t be used to set up another township and recreate that life all over again.
In most of these documentaries they leave out the most important people, which is are the Khoi and the San people form which the land was actually taken.
The only people that took land here were white people. White people are foreign to Afrika. We Afrikans have always lived in Afrika in Peace. This whole idea about stolen lands is a western construct (propaganda ) it always seems to be white people telling our Story. And the story is always a lie. They just want to justify their colonisation.

I am a white Zimbabwean,who left the country when Mugabe came into power.I presently live in South Africa but I as a middle aged woman cannot find work.Over the years I have seen many black people come into wealth and become middle class South Africans,I am happy for them and am all for equality. Over the past 8 years I have left the comfort of my home and the comfort of my family and support group,to come and work in the home of a stranger as a carer.A job classified in the UK as low skilled and minimum wages. I have now gained an understanding and insight of what its like to leave country and family to earn a living.Aswell as what its like to be treated like a servant. We are not all living in luxury,with the freedom to come and go as we please. We have poor whites,living in squatter camps too. I love Africa,I was born there,I love the African people,I wish for them the best. The poor will always be with us,they are not going away. Inequality will always be with us. The country now belongs to the black South Africans but life has not improved for the majority of them. 25 years in power, ..............where will it all end?
After watching this video I thought to myself, unless there is a radical improvement in the political situation in South Africa, I think South Africa will end up becoming another Zimbabwe ( i.e. the former Rhodesia ).
Colonialism ended, Apartheid ended, now Africa and its resources belong to the Chinese. Contrary to what many Africans believe, China is not investing in Africa to help Africans; they arrive primarily with their own workforce, and export Africa's raw materials to China. As a 'thank you' they flood Africa with low-cost Chinese goods, killing local industries in the process. The final outcome will make the past look like a blessing in comparison. At least some African leaders (Tanzania) are seeing the light.

This is splitting hairs. At the very least, Africans have more claim to their own continent rather than a European; who isn't native to Southern Africa in any form. The Khoisan are still Black Africans and many of them have intermixed with other tribes. This notion that one needs to be pure Khoisan to have entitlement to Southern African has faulty reasoning.

The Middle East then conquered and ruled from the Intermediate and Middle Kingdoms and then towards the end, the Europeans invaded and ruled. In between there was many intermixing. Now hypothetically speaking and based on your statement, since most, if not all current Egyptians are not purely sub-Saharan or even Egyptian, can Zulu's still lay claim to the land since they are purely African? I love my country and I love the truth. Togetherness is the only thing that can move us forward. Our government is corrupt and together we can change them too. My every plan, is for South Africa, it's the land of immense opportunity as long as you can see it and work for it. I am a expat and my goal is to bring home all i have learnt. I watched another documentary where this mother was talking about how she was on a wait list for a government house. And she said she didnt think she was raising kids in a proper setting. Cause she was in one of the slums. I agreee. But i thought Why did you have 8 fricking kids lady? That's just bullshit.
They have to know where children come from. And please dont thank im tryin to be rude. They also have contraceptives there. Im sure they could get condoms for free or close to free. Im sure a lot of ppl choose not to use them. Im just saying if life was that bleak for me i wouldnt have kids or I'd most definitely stop after having one or 2 that i already couldn't provide for. To have 8 or 9 kids when you're in that position is careless and irresponsible.
Okay, first off, we don‘t really know if the kids were wanted. We don‘t know how it went. We don‘t know that side of the story, right? So we can‘t judge her. And second, not everyone has any acces to condoms not to bother to FREE condoms or some way of protection. The thing is, no matter if you have 2 or 10 kids you should be able to provide them a house but even with hard-work some can‘t do it because of things that may be out pf their power. Ofcourse having more kids is gonna cost more, but people (especially kids. In this context) should get provided what they need by the government. Which isn‘t happening.

Thank you for this fantastic video. We just returned from SA last month before the lockdown, we will be hopefully back to visit Cape Town next year ... all being well. SA is a beautiful country with inspiring history.
The land in South Africa was never owned by the Bantu Nguni ( Black) people. The original South Africans were the Khoisan people who were Hunter gatherers,they were a sparse population. When the Dutch settlers arrived in South Africa in 1652 there were no Bantu Nguni people, they were further north and were driven to South Africa by the stronger tribes, the Zulus and the Matabele.
I am speaking from a black American perspective. It is emphasis on education, a stable political system and free market economy that gets a country out of poverty. It seems like South Africa is missing the first two. When 80% 8-9 year olds can't even read a simple sentence you know South Africa is done for. It also wouldn't hurt if South Africans gave up going to sangomas. That is truly demonic.
We also don't really have a free market economy. Our BBBEE laws prevent a lot of businesses to partake in certain sectors of our economy. If you do not have a 100% black-owned business, you are not allowed to do business with the government, or even with someone who is doing business with government...

I can't seem to take this documentary seriously. How can you speak about Cape Town without really interviewing Coloured people who makeup nearly 50 percent of the city's population
I dont know what you mean since we talked to many coloured people. And in the doc we interviewed Ighsaan! He's a coloured person. Did you even watch more than 30 seconds?
And to answer your question, yes you are right Cape Town has almost 50% coloured people. But the ones we talked shared all a similar mindset. They all said things like Ighsaan. We wanted to show different sorts of mindsets and different 'sides'. The documentary is not supposed to be a statistic about the population.
The guy is hardly in it - 30 seconds max. The point I'm trying to make is it would've been nice to see a documentary that actually reflects the actual demographics of the city
If you wanted to show different 'sides' like you say, then you should've interviewed coloured people coming from different social classes. Coloured people aren't monolithic
This flim brought me to tears AS a Zulu man in kzn I feel this strongly hit me my mom and dad are from rural areas but thanks to God they manage to get degrees in medicine and I was raised in a very white area in dundee with other black kids and we grow up with white kids we are all best friends now So many people don't have that experience our understanding that you can be friends with anybody
As a white Zimbabwean, I just look at South Africa and strongly believe it is going to turn into a war. Too many blacks hate whites for this to work out OK and the voices of any black who tries to talk reasonably are drowned out by the ones who dont. It's looking more like Nazis Germany with the rhetoric of the ANC leadership and things are going to explode at some point.

The History of South Africa is Well established and known to anyone who actually cares. Before the arrival of the Dutch South Africa was a scarcely Populated desert. The original and indigenous populations are the Khoi and the San people. The Dutch decided to live apart from the Hunter Gatherers which is where the term “Apartheid” comes from. That was in the 1600s. Almost a 100 years later, Bantu tribes migrated further South entering South Africa and settling in the Transvaal and KZN. They made their way into South Africa by conquest and Tribal war. After Gold was Found in Johannesburg the British wanted apart of the country’s resources and pushed the entire white population northward from Cape Town into Tribal land. So if people want to give land back to their rightful owners than give it to the Khoi and the San people. Bantu Tribes are not Indigenous to South Africa and that is why the “Land Reform” is an injustice to those who rightfully own them. Not one Monument or building made from brick and was ever erected in South Africa before the arrival of Europeans and neither was agriculture practiced.

Telling "European" colonized and stole land is wrong and not true! I'm from a country from Europe that has nothing to do with colonizing anyone in our history, and our country was terrorized by other European countries...So labeling "European" and putting all other countries from Europe who has a clean history, with the countries who have colonized Africa like Great Britany, Holland, French, Germany, etc, is the wrong generalization! One should name it right! I despise colonization, slavery, terrorism, or any kind of injustice against anyone, no matter of the color of the skin! Respect to all!
I worked between 2009 and 2019 in SA because the country needed skills like mine. It was a cultural shock. At the end of this journey, I come to realize everyone want to live together in harmony. There isn’t really racism. But a desperate needs of a strong and honest government that unite the country, starting by letting to the communities to debate with honesty, listening to each other’s and compromising on a national action plan. Then there is an urgent plan to setup to give to each and everyone a roof, food and the access to education, health and others services. And to give to the country a clear vision on the progress. The nation must unite and make the plan happen and be patient.
This is the only factually correct statement on this thread. I worked in all these places for 45 years, before during and after Apartheid. You've managed to pick exactly the wrong people to paint your picture. As with all fake news, some of what you assert is true but your overall picture is skewed. The government is incompetent and corrupt. There are people of every race who hate each other, but the truth on the ground is very different in terms of race relations than the one you portray.
I’m a 22 year old Black South African male. One of our problems right now is the number of illegal migrants in this country. Of these many people on the streets is soo many illegal immigrants. They are everywhere in the country. You can’t expect a happy home when everyone can come and do as they please!
Back in the days my uncles had to leave school grades 7 & 8 to make a living but they became master machanics and has worked for big companies like Somchem; AECI and General Motors without having a degree or grade 12

Good documentary, Most of the shacks in the townships arent however born and bred capetonians, they are from the eastern cape. Capetonians have a complete different mentality, hard working, honest people, who resent the township, consisting mostly of land thieves and bandwagoners. Foreigners dont culturally assimilate to any standard either, be it residential, driving or cultural. The land issue, there is more than enough land for everyone, not at any hand out though. Its a farce issue, land reclaimation,. No need for a political issue
Cape Town is not a country its a city in South Africa people tend to move to where there are more opportunities the wealth of the country was directed towards where there are white people so using a common sense people will migrate

One of the most insightful docu's on SA that I have watched, and I have watched many. As a non-South African who lived in SA for 6 years, worked in Johanesburg and studied at Stellenbosch University (near Cape Town), I had the opportunity to observe the issues and views raised in this video first hand. The worst issues plaguing South Africa, in my honest opinion, is the gross wealth disparity and poor education infrastructure that persists. Both of these are the legacies of South Africa's apartheid policies. Waiting for the white farmer to retire is not an option in my view. What if he wants to leave the farm to his son or daughter or cousin who is also white??? Before farms were invaded in Zimbabwe, the government tried to buy land from white farmers who were not willing. They amended the law to say that one farmer. one farm. Still, these "surplus" farms were bought by the farmer's white friends and relatives or they simply did not agree on the valuation of the land, despite independent land evaluation firms being hired specifically for the exercise. Initially the government in Zimbabwe resisted the invasions, until they realized that there was actually a ground swell from the black population in support of this. Hopefully South Africa can learn from the mistakes and miscalculations made in Zimbabwe, by both the black majority government and the minority white commercial farmers. As for the potential outcome of a civil war, that's another post entirely and above my pay grade to comment on in detail. However, I could see it as a regional war, if it came to that. So, let's all pray that all parties work to ensure that it doesn't come to that. That's my hope for South Africa.
That's the thing bro. We should learn from other countries that failed to do this in a proper manner and make sure we don't fall down the same ditch. I hate it when instead of having a rational discussion the opponents cite Zimbabwe and hype the 'worst case scenario' in an attempt to shut us down.. Let's have a proper discussion and come to an agreement because when you have a majority which is poor and a minority which has all the resources, the majority has nothing to lose and they will make any attempt to rid the rich of their wealth. The poor will soon turn into a mob, and there is no way of reasoning with a mob.

Dear Michaela, this is not true. Yes, everyone is responsible for its own luck, okay. BUT there are people in this world who grew up circumstances which makes it almost IMPOSSIBLE for them to change something about it. If you have no access to education, then you basically lost all the chances. Of course there are always exceptions but it's rare. I come from Germany/Belgium, social countries where everyone has the chance of education. This puts me in an extreme privileged position. And many people in this world don't have this privilege so they don't have the same chances. People who grow up in poverty, where parents fight everyday to bring food on the table, where drug, violence and alcohol is a norm, etc the list goes on, kids who grew up in places like this need the government/or non profit organizations work to get out of that. ALONE there is almost no way to do so. So, maybe yes, you can change yourself but you not necessarily can change your circumstances and if that's the case it doesn't really help you to change yourself.
Very informative documentation. Showing different sides to the story. As a Dutchman I used to be proud of our golden age history. But the more I read about the real past (the one we don't get taught in school) the more I feel ashamed. Even though I do not feel responsible for what our ancestors did, I do feel responsible for speaking out against it, and making sure it never happens again. I love South-Africa and come to Phalaborwa often. It's a beautiful country with beautiful people and so much potential. I hope the future leaders will learn from leaders like Seretse Khama, where people worked together regardless of the colour of their skin. Unite, don't divide. If we don't leave our past in the past, it will destroy our future. Live for what today has to offer, not for what yesterday has taken away.

Very well done! Having grown up in the destitute Cape Flats, I can say one thing - life is what you make of it. I've seen too many blame, hate, be angry & make excuses as opposed to taking responsibility. There is no substitution for hard work in a land filled with opportunity. Gov keeps failing and those with money get richer - use it as a driving force of motivation and not a crutch of hate. Forgive the past, do the best now & look forward to the future. The problem is not academic theory. It's the absence of any meaningful education to begin with - schools falling apart, no books to give to students, incompetent teachers. Add that to the structural problems generated by mass unemployment and mass poverty, and the correlation between wealth and skin colour that many people in South Africa see (a correlation, I should add, that is not necessarily causal, but is very often perceived as such) and you have South Africa circa 2021. The result should surprise no one.

Worked in Ghana 2002, very poor country, and the workers getting paid 1,5 dollars a day, but nobody steals or do crime, best people in the world, ANC in 26 years made South Africa worse.
I returned to America from a 10-day stay in Ghana, mostly Accra. There is most definitely crime in Ghana. People do still. I know someone who had his cell phone stolen when I was there. Another guy had to flee Accra because he accepted money from people for an apartment that he did not deliver in. Another young man I was familiar with fled Accra because he had raped an underage girl. Ghanaians always warned me to not use my cell phone with the window rolled down because someone might snatch it. I could go on. I live Ghana but I will not romanticize it. Several people were killed during the recent unrest following the election. Murder is a crime. The police in Ghana engage in extortion non a regular basis in Ghana. That said, I love Ghana, but U will not romanticize it, just as I wouldn’t romanticize any other country I visit or live in.

Can't be fixed. Multicultural societies have no unity or unifying symbols to center themselves around. It's impossible to build a nation this way. People will always take offense to other people's ways and they will always blame the other for their own shortcomings. This is even more evident if the two groups of people look different from each other. When I was younger I also believe in the utopian idea that very different people could come together through education and a little understanding. But after 20 years of travel, experiencing other cultures and living in other countries. I now understand just how naive I was. It turns out small differences in cultures and people can have vastly different outcomes over time. It's those small differences that make us who we are not the things we have in common with other groups of people. Humans are fundamentally tribal and territorial. It's part of our DNA, just like a wolf has the need to form packs. People only tolerate others when they are comfortable and the other is not a direct threat to them. But as soon as that comfortablity disappears, our tribal nature returns. You see it happening in Europe right now. People are quickly becoming less tolerant of others as their own security and comfortable lives are starting to be threatened. Unfortunately utopian ideas have always ended badly and with much bloodshed. Because they never take into account what a human being is, they only focus on what they think a human being should be. Usually in accordance to some misguided ideology. Only later they learn that reality takes no prisoners.

It Also depends on the type of people and culture you allow in. Some cultures are completely incompatible with each other. Also remember it's in all human nature to be surrounded by our own and to dominate the territory around them. The best way to do this is to increase you numbers in a new territory. This is where Europe has been very foolish. They have allowed foreign groups to take over both physical and political territory. This will ultimately lead to conflict with the native groups. Demographics is key to everything and needs to be managed responsibly if you want to maintain long term peace.

In most of these documentaries they leave out the most important people, which is are the Khoi and the San people form which the land was actually taken.
The only people that took land here were white people. White people are foreign to Afrika. We Afrikans have always lived in Afrika in Peace. This whole idea about stolen lands is a western construct (propaganda ) it always seems to be white people telling our Story. And the story is always a lie. They just want to justify their colonisation.

Over the past 8 years I have left the comfort of my home and the comfort of my family and support group,to come and work in the home of a stranger as a carer.A job classified in the UK as low skilled and minimum wages.
I have now gained an understanding and insight of what its like to leave country and family to earn a living.Aswell as what its like to be treated like a servant.
We are not all living in luxury,with the freedom to come and go as we please.
We have poor whites,living in squatter camps too.

Colonialism ended, Apartheid ended, now Africa and its resources belong to the Chinese. Contrary to what many Africans believe, China is not investing in Africa to help Africans; they arrive primarily with their own workforce, and export Africa's raw materials to China. As a 'thank you' they flood Africa with low-cost Chinese goods, killing local industries in the process. The final outcome will make the past look like a blessing in comparison. At least some African leaders (Tanzania) are seeing the light.

The Khoisan are still Black Africans and many of them have intermixed with other tribes. This notion that one needs to be pure Khoisan to have entitlement to Southern African has faulty reasoning.

Okay, first off, we don‘t really know if the kids were wanted. We don‘t know how it went. We don‘t know that side of the story, right? So we can‘t judge her. And second, not everyone has any acces to condoms not to bother to FREE condoms or some way of protection. The thing is, no matter if you have 2 or 10 kids you should be able to provide them a house but even with hard-work some can‘t do it because of things that may be out pf their power. Ofcourse having more kids is gonna cost more, but people (especially kids. In this context) should get provided what they need by the government. Which isn‘t happening.

The land in South Africa was never owned by the Bantu Nguni ( Black) people. The original South Africans were the Khoisan people who were Hunter gatherers,they were a sparse population. When the Dutch settlers arrived in South Africa in 1652 there were no Bantu Nguni people, they were further north and were driven to South Africa by the stronger tribes, the Zulus and the Matabele.
I am speaking from a black American perspective. It is emphasis on education, a stable political system and free market economy that gets a country out of poverty. It seems like South Africa is missing the first two. When 80% 8-9 year olds can't even read a simple sentence you know South Africa is done for. It also wouldn't hurt if South Africans gave up going to sangomas. That is truly demonic.

We also don't really have a free market economy. Our BBBEE laws prevent a lot of businesses to partake in certain sectors of our economy. If you do not have a 100% black-owned business, you are not allowed to do business with the government, or even with someone who is doing business with government...

I can't seem to take this documentary seriously. How can you speak about Cape Town without really interviewing Coloured people who makeup nearly 50 percent of the city's population
I dont know what you mean since we talked to many coloured people. And in the doc we interviewed Ighsaan! He's a coloured person.

And to answer your question, yes you are right Cape Town has almost 50% coloured people. But the ones we talked shared all a similar mindset. They all said things like Ighsaan. We wanted to show different sorts of mindsets and different 'sides'. The documentary is not supposed to be a statistic about the population.
The guy is hardly in it - 30 seconds max. The point I'm trying to make is it would've been nice to see a documentary that actually reflects the actual demographics of the city

If you wanted to show different 'sides' like you say, then you should've interviewed coloured people coming from different social classes. Coloured people aren't monolithic

AS a Zulu man in kzn I feel this strongly hit me my mom and dad are from rural areas but thanks to God they manage to get degrees in medicine and I was raised in a very white area in dundee with other black kids and we grow up with white kids we are all best friends now
So many people don't have that experience our understanding that you can be friends with anybody

As a white Zimbabwean, I just look at South Africa and strongly believe it is going to turn into a war. Too many blacks hate whites for this to work out OK and the voices of any black who tries to talk reasonably are drowned out by the ones who dont.
It's looking more like Nazis Germany with the rhetoric of the ANC leadership and things are going to explode at some point.

The History of South Africa is Well established and known to anyone who actually cares. Before the arrival of the Dutch South Africa was a scarcely Populated desert. The original and indigenous populations are the Khoi and the San people. The Dutch decided to live apart from the Hunter Gatherers which is where the term “Apartheid” comes from. That was in the 1600s. Almost a 100 years later, Bantu tribes migrated further South entering South Africa and settling in the Transvaal and KZN. They made their way into South Africa by conquest and Tribal war. After Gold was Found in Johannesburg the British wanted apart of the country’s resources and pushed the entire white population northward from Cape Town into Tribal land. So if people want to give land back to their rightful owners than give it to the Khoi and the San people. Bantu Tribes are not Indigenous to South Africa and that is why the “Land Reform” is an injustice to those who rightfully own them. Not one Monument or building made from brick and was ever erected in South Africa before the arrival of Europeans and neither was agriculture practiced.

Who was indigenous 500 yrs later is now moot, but the bantu tribes coming south into a area now called South Africa, did so by dispossessing other tribes wanting the same. Now they cry 'give it back'. This is the nub of the stalemate into failure that we now have.

I'm from a country from Europe that has nothing to do with colonizing anyone in our history, and our country was terrorized by other European countries...So labeling "European" and putting all other countries from Europe who has a clean history, with the countries who have colonized Africa like Great Britany, Holland, French, Germany, etc, is the wrong generalization! One should name it right! I despise colonization, slavery, terrorism, or any kind of injustice against anyone, no matter of the color of the skin! Respect to all!

I worked between 2009 and 2019 in SA because the country needed skills like mine. It was a cultural shock. At the end of this journey, I come to realize everyone want to live together in harmony. There isn’t really racism. But a desperate needs of a strong and honest government that unite the country, starting by letting to the communities to debate with honesty, listening to each other’s and compromising on a national action plan. Then there is an urgent plan to setup to give to each and everyone a roof, food and the access to education, health and others services. And to give to the country a clear vision on the progress. The nation must unite and make the plan happen and be patient.

I worked in all these places for 45 years, before during and after Apartheid. You've managed to pick exactly the wrong people to paint your picture. As with all fake news, some of what you assert is true but your overall picture is skewed.
The government is incompetent and corrupt. There are people of every race who hate each other, but the truth on the ground is very different in terms of race relations than the one you portray.
I’m a 22 year old Black South African male. One of our problems right now is the number of illegal migrants in this country. Of these many people on the streets is soo many illegal immigrants. They are everywhere in the country. You can’t expect a happy home when everyone can come and do as they please!

Most of the shacks in the townships arent however born and bred capetonians, they are from the eastern cape.
Capetonians have a complete different mentality, hard working, honest people, who resent the township, consisting mostly of land thieves and bandwagoners.

A lot of the people you found in this documentary were very reasonable and very well spoken.
One of the most insightful docu's on SA that I have watched, and I have watched many. As a non-South African who lived in SA for 6 years, worked in Johanesburg and studied at Stellenbosch University (near Cape Town), I had the opportunity to observe the issues and views raised in this video first hand. The worst issues plaguing South Africa, in my honest opinion, is the gross wealth disparity and poor education infrastructure that persists. Both of these are the legacies of South Africa's apartheid policies. Waiting for the white farmer to retire is not an option in my view. What if he wants to leave the farm to his son or daughter or cousin who is also white??? Before farms were invaded in Zimbabwe, the government tried to buy land from white farmers who were not willing. They amended the law to say that one farmer. one farm. Still, these "surplus" farms were bought by the farmer's white friends and relatives or they simply did not agree on the valuation of the land, despite independent land evaluation firms being hired specifically for the exercise. Initially the government in Zimbabwe resisted the invasions, until they realized that there was actually a ground swell from the black population in support of this. Hopefully South Africa can learn from the mistakes and miscalculations made in Zimbabwe, by both the black majority government and the minority white commercial farmers. As for the potential outcome of a civil war, that's another post entirely and above my pay grade to comment on in detail. However, I could see it as a regional war, if it came to that. So, let's all pray that all parties work to ensure that it doesn't come to that. That's my hope for South Africa.
That's the thing bro. We should learn from other countries that failed to do this in a proper manner and make sure we don't fall down the same ditch. I hate it when instead of having a rational discussion the opponents cite Zimbabwe and hype the 'worst case scenario' in an attempt to shut us down.. Let's have a proper discussion and come to an agreement because when you have a majority which is poor and a minority which has all the resources, the majority has nothing to lose and they will make any attempt to rid the rich of their wealth. The poor will soon turn into a mob, and there is no way of reasoning with a mob.

Dear Michaela, this is not true. Yes, everyone is responsible for its own luck, okay. BUT there are people in this world who grew up circumstances which makes it almost IMPOSSIBLE for them to change something about it. If you have no access to education, then you basically lost all the chances. Of course there are always exceptions but it's rare. I come from Germany/Belgium, social countries where everyone has the chance of education. This puts me in an extreme privileged position. And many people in this world don't have this privilege so they don't have the same chances. People who grow up in poverty, where parents fight everyday to bring food on the table, where drug, violence and alcohol is a norm, etc the list goes on, kids who grew up in places like this need the government/or non profit organizations work to get out of that. ALONE there is almost no way to do so. So, maybe yes, you can change yourself but you not necessarily can change your circumstances and if that's the case it doesn't really help you to change yourself.

But the more I read about the real past (the one we don't get taught in school) the more I feel ashamed. Even though I do not feel responsible for what our ancestors did, I do feel responsible for speaking out against it, and making sure it never happens again. I love South-Africa and come to Phalaborwa often. It's a beautiful country with beautiful people and so much potential. I hope the future leaders will learn from leaders like Seretse Khama, where people worked together regardless of the colour of their skin. Unite, don't divide. If we don't leave our past in the past, it will destroy our future. Live for what today has to offer, not for what yesterday has taken away.
