Such an overlooked pedal! I have one for 7/8 years and never left the pedalboard. I mostly use it in the end of the chain as an always on pedal to colour the sound and add dinamics (from clean to overdriven) just with how hard I play. Also used multiple times for recording.
Excellent pedal. I originally got this pedal for the overdrive & then my band started practicing ampless & using in ears. We played a gig & got to experiment with going ampless & going direct to the pa & it sounded great.
I picked up a Fender Rumble 100 v3 Amp = light-weight and sounds fantastic ( also has DI out ) . This is also a great solution. Tech 21 makes great stuff. oNe LovE from NYC
HI it is important also to understand that you don't really have a cabsim knob to engage it on that pedal, it is just that you can disable it. Because every SansAmp have a CabSim (and only the one with that speaker knob can disengage it)
@@tlb2732 ? Look at what I say and don't comment like that. I say that on all sansamp you have a Cabsim but on this one you can disable it. On the other you cannot do that. That's all
Very interested in this demo. I grabbed my TC Spectradrive to compare it. I've never used it live, but I always use it for recording without an amp. It's works pretty well. I guess mine is a SansAmp rip off with a few extras, but you can pick one up used for under £200 nowadays ⚡
From the user guide: 1/4” Output Level Switch: +10dB boost to match the output to equipment with different input level requirements. Disengaged (up position), the output is -10dB. Engaged (in position), the output is 0dB. XLR Output Level Switch: -20dB pad to match the output to equipment with different input level requirements. Disengaged (up position), the output is 0dB. Engaged (in position), the output is -20dB. [I use it like a line-level/mic-level switch; disengaged/engaged, respectively].
No I have the Ged and it has a different tone. Basically it is the deep channel that you can't change which has that tone, the drive chanel is a Tech21 para driver
$399? Damm I paid 209+tax new for mine and it came with two cables from Reverb,I guess it was a store sale 😌 it’s a great DI . Sweetwater hast it at 249 don’t pay 399 😂
@@BandOnABudgetNZ just use your ears to get good sounds. Using presets which are usually out of context result in bad sounds which depreciate your videos. Good luck!
9v preamp? Neh! not good for dynamic range. I would add a couple of hundred bucks and get Avalon U5. That's a serious box, not a toy like this Tech-Shmeck
'Proper gigging rig', and what exactly would you consider that to be? I know what works for me, and it doesn't involve lugging an amp stack around with me. On public transport that would be hilariously impractical.
@@BandOnABudgetNZ A rig is a rig ..not a metal box. Calling a rig a stack is exaggerating things quite a bit. I can walk into a venue with bass and rig all in one trip. No back breaking, weather and drunk idiot proof. Do the gig and be packed up in 15 minutes to leave.
I've used one of these on every gig and recording session for a good few years. It's an indispensable 'always on' pedal for me. Mine was second hand!

Tech 21 makes great gear! Thank you, sir! Greetings from Coachella Valley!
I love the way you say "piddle". It means something different in where I'm from (Scotland).
@@BandOnABudgetNZ It's lovely! Here we'd say "peduw". lol

Greeting from Rotorua. I got two version of these, the deluxe and di version. Love them so much. Absolute beast!
I have a Ampeg Scrambler SC-di and its fantastic. I run it through a 1000w powered speaker for small bars and its freaking fantastic
Nice review. A lot of different tones
I picked up a used VT Deluxe and it's incredibly versatile. Definitely worth a few extra bucks if you can find one.

@svtx Yup. It is nice so
Disengage.... disable....?
Either way, it's off.

How is this different with the Sansamp Bass driver DI? The black version.
Why would you want to add +10dB to the mixing desk if using 1/4" out? And why the opposite for DI?
From the user guide:
1/4” Output Level Switch: +10dB boost to match the output to equipment with different input level requirements. Disengaged (up position), the output is -10dB. Engaged (in position), the output is 0dB.

Virry nice piddel... 😀
Could you send the XLR output to the desk and use the 1/4" parallel output to drive in ear headphone amp?
Yup.
I like the pedal but have NO use for an overdriven bass sound.
I really like the tech 21 gear but you can get a really good Amp for stage use for alot less than $2000
It won't fit in your pocket though, will it?
Can you get Geddy.Lee tone from this ?
go buy the new tech21 geddy lee signature pedal :)
No I have the Ged and it has a different tone. Basically it is the deep channel that you can't change which has that tone, the drive chanel is a Tech21 para driver
cool.
Was speaker simulation on for all those?
@@BandOnABudgetNZ OK Would have been interesting to hear the difference
*ONLY* 300 WATTS
Ampeg SVT bro..............Every time.
Is the switch on these hard-clicking, or soft-switching?
Its soft switching
@@BandOnABudgetNZ Thanks. I ordered one. Arrived last night but haven't even had a chance to open the box.

$499 at the Rockshop ad of today 🤣

Sorry mate. You didn’t do justice to this pedal. It sounded like shiet.
Sounds like a wet fart
That honestly sounds horrible ,yikes!
Nothing personal.
The blend knob was at 10 the whole time, others say it’s better when it’s not
@@rice2meatu in reality the problem was that active ibanez bass.Try it with a passive P bass and all of your dreams come true...
The pedal sounds terrible. Very honky… I advise anyone to save a little money up and get a dark glassB 7K ultra
it's because of the blend knob. having the blend fully on isn't good imo. but yeah the darkglass is also good too

He sent his u5 to the soundboard
Every bass player that is gigging should own a propper gigging rig... get your shit together.
