I run one, always on, for a bit of tube emulation, and massive tone control available to me on stage. The little box with many uses. Hats off to Tech21.
Fantastic demo. I have been searching RUclips for ages trying to find a decent review of this pedal and this demo is the best by far. Thanks for your efforts. I have ordered this pedal today ☺
Very helpful! I just got a Bass Fly Rig and the VT is one of the preamps along with a Bass Driver pre. I prefer the VT and this helped get a better understanding of what it could do.
Very good review. Thanks Oliver. I have a rack mounted Sansamp RBI unit, which have more or less the same features, and the only problem that I find with it is the bass voicing being set at 80hz, and to solve that I just added a one band parametric Equalizer to push the bass to lower frequencies.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad it was helpful! Yeah the VT Bass DI is sort of the more Ampeg oriented version of the BDDI, they share many similarities but also a few differences
The VT Bass DI still is my favorite pedal. I hope they will sooner or later bring a Fly Rig version like the SH-1 as a VT Bass FlyRig. Tech21 has milked the VT Bass so many times now (original VT Bass, VT Bass V2, VT Bass Deluxe, VT Bass DI, VT Bass 1960, VT Bass 500, and the VT Bass 200 Combo). So there should be a VT Bass FlyRig also! My idea would be the two channel set up of the SH-1. Both channels could share the same Bass, Middle and Treble knobs, but individuel Gain, Character and Master knobs would allow two different sounds plus a tuner.
@@OliverTobyn Kind of, it it has lesser gain and is somehow a mix between the VT Bass and the Bass Driver. I have the FlyRig and it is great, but not that much for overdriven Sounds. For that I like the SH-1 better (or the VT Bass DI). For real nasty distortion the dp-3X is the ultimate thing.
@@kazisami1051 Yes, your are right. The Fly Rig V2 has the option of switching between VT Bass and Bass Driver ... but NO Blend Control and NO Character Knob. I really like the combination of a clean signal plus mixing in an overdriven signal. The YYZ Pedal is also very interesting for this purpose. I hope they make this as a Fly Rig (kind of like the DP-3X or the SH-1 Mini Fly rigs).
Nice sounds you can get out of this thing! So far you have helped me decide about 2 products now: This pedal and the Dimarzio Model P. It seems that maybe the drive needed a little taming...your SPB-3s seem to clip a little bit when you do extreme full on or full off on your eq knobs. Anyways, very versatile indeed. Much to my regret, I sold an Ampeg SCR-DI I had. This maybe the closest to that, although the eq is voiced a little higher on this pedal, as far as I have read, but all usable sounds nonetheless! Greetings!
I wonder if the difference between this and the original VT Is the bite, Phantom and db 🤔. I regret getting rid of my original VT pedal but I think the drive was messed up
Hello, great review!!!! One question, with warm compression setting is not necessary a compressor pedal? This setting emulate good a compressor pedal? Thanks Regards!!!!
@@OliverTobyn Great!!! Can the Steve Harris SH1 also get the compresor effect? If so, how do you get it? I am hesitating beteween the two models VT or SH1. And I need them to be able to act as compressor as well. Many thanks!! Regards
Kinda, you would need two distinct channels to get that tone, one deep and bassy and the order more overdriven and trebly, the YYZ allows you to do this, but the the VT Bass you would only get about half of it
@@OliverTobyn so the bddi is more a generic tube like preamp with some basic filtering to not sound like crap going di, but it isn't amp like or svt like the way the vt bass is?
One of the best reviews for a bass pedal that I've ever seen on the Tube. Let the pedal and the bass do the talking. Nicely done !

I use it through my Orange Guitar Stack and it sounds just like the SVT the speakers were putting out great Lows
I was really surprized.
Thanks for run through
After all these years it's still my favourite pre-amp/DI pedal :)

Thank you so much! I'm glad it was useful and I hope you enjoy yours as well! 😁
This is by far the best overview video of this pedal out there. Thanks for putting it together!
Thank you very much! I'm actually about to do one with the Dug Pinnick pedal!
One of the sickest pedals in the business!
i agree, i use svt style and it is incredible sound ! :)

Came for the pedal, stayed for the killer lesson in bass tone
I liked that tone at the end of the Thumpy Funk

I just traded my RBI for the Geddy Lee DI 2112 pedal, the RBI was way too mid and highs heavy for my taste even with them rolled back
Sans amp is still the goat when it comes to bass DI.
Excellent video. Was considering the BDDI but had to get the VT DI instead after watching this. Excited for it to arrive. Thanks!

how do you change the sample setting?
What do you mean? They are in the manual, it shows how to set each knob

Sounds good, and fairly versatile.
It is indeed!

Great demo! Sounds awesome with a p bass.
Thank you very much! Tech 21 stuff works magically with Fender, or Fender style, basses!
I have this pedal too. I love the tones I can get.
Looking a Motown tube sound in a box. This could work fine :)
What's the difference between this and the BDDI?
This is more suited for an Ampeg type of sound. It has a cab emulation button and a character knob which the BDDI doesn't have

May sound better than ampeg’s own di pedal
I had that one as well and sold it because this one was way better!
A/B it.
Are you sure that lows are at 125 Hz? I think they are more in the 55 Hz area
Yeah, says so on the manual, and I even confirmed it with them
MIDは500Hzじゃねーの?
No it's 1kHz, there was a mistake in the manual. I even confirmed it with Tech 21
