i think it's because smashes don't leave any opportunity for the opponent to attack. also they are crazy fast, so odds are that constant clearing wouldn't be effective to put pressure on the opponent.
They don't clear much for two main reasons Firstly in big tournaments, players are typically more nervous and so attacking shots has less risk of the muscle being tight leading to unforced error (smashes in general don't carry this risk) Second in big tournaments the drift is typically pretty bad. One side is challenging to clear to the back line, and another side every shot easily goes out. So both side avoid clearing
