Good idea burning the hole then the edge will be stronger. I could do with one of those kits for my tea towels. Cheers.

Helpful video. I understand that the metal 'base' is called the anvil.

@@MrMeltedwellies As you suggested I used my soldering iron to burn & seal the holes - that was a good tip.

When you do grommet or eyelet, you should tap the setting tools not too hard to start the roll. Some grommet are thin (made in China...). If you hit too hard at the start, you can crush the grommet sideway. It's not good. I only hit the grommet hard at the end to finish the roll and tighten it on the material.

Can you do this with acrylic sheets without them cracking?

Yes, but not that way. For acrylic, you should should cut the right size of hole with a drill using the proper technique. For the grommet, you will need a grommet press. The grommet press will avoid shock waves created by the hammering for making the roll. You will also get a better control how thigh your grommet is. I would suggest you place a rubber washer between both part of the grommet and the acrylic if you can. It will reduce the pressure applied on the acrylic sheet. Just think tightening a bolt on a toilet bowl. Too much pressure and it will crack.
