Do not run it without the cage! That is what helps support the weight of the clutch and shaft. You will ruin the oil seal on the shaft and chances are great you’ll destroy the bearing too.
In your professional opinion, I am looking at a pioneer 700 X4, for the wolverine X for 850. Which one would be a better choice? Just using it for the family and for trail riding nothing to go fast or tear anything up. I know the wolverine has a little more speed and power but maybe more maintenance? The pioneer I heard is pretty much bulletproof shaft drive
Don’t worry about the Wolverine, it’s pretty much bulletproof too. BUT...like you said it does take a bit more maintenance as you have to periodically blow out and clean the cvt sheaves. About every 1200 miles or so so not super often but something to considered. The Wolverine is hands down the better machine for riding passengers in the rear however. If it’s mainly a trail buggy I would go Wolverine for that fact. Smaller kids would most likely be fine in the back of the pioneer but if it’s a machine you plan on keeping a while then they will out grow the rear seats quite quickly. Now if you want the dump bed for work as well. Then the Pioneer does give you the best of both worlds as far as work and play. Inventory is low across the nation now but if you can take your whole family and check them out in person and go with what your gut tells you. You really can’t go wrong with either one!
First off great videos and thx for all your hard work. I do have a question maybe you could help me with. I just pulled off the cvt cover and cleaned up the housing...got some water in it from the depths of Mordor. I removed the metal cage housing around the stock sheeve and this leads me to my question. Do I need to add any grease in the end of it where the shaft rides or any other place for that matter while I have it apart? Thank you
You don’t need to but a little lithium grease won’t hurt anything. Just use very little as you don’t want the great to go flying and get on your belt. Just like with Dielectric grease a little dab will do you.
So is this the 1600 mile maintenance that you have to perform on the CVT? Or if you don’t go in deep water and just trail ride there is a different way to maintenance it?
No this is not. At 1600 miles you need to clean and re grease the secondary. The primary seems to be good with just blowing the dust out if all looks well but the secondary on the Wolverines need a regular cleaning and greasing about every 1600 miles or so otherwise I they wear prematurely
That took a ridiculously long time to get to! Not a jab at you personally Jason, just saying that it's not an easy access deal lol. Definitely not user friendly for a trail fix, but I guess it's the price to pay for extra people hauling abilities...
I've modded mine to allow for easier CVT access: www.wolverineforums.com/forum/162-wolverine-x2-x4-general-discussion/18258-yamaha-wolverine-x2-x4-mods-tips-tricks-5.html#post222282
I’ve took my x4 tire deep and it started cutting out then died. Any idea why? Winched out and in a minute or two it starts up fine. What’s going on? Any help would be appreciated, and thanks great video 👍
Yamaha and Honda should put you on the payroll as an advisor/tester. Looks like a poorly designed CVT,that would allow water and mud to enter. At least Hondas don't have this problem.
Super informative video. Thanks
Love the snezz omgggg
could you look down the exhaust tube with a endoscope and inspect the primary and secondary ? Save a lot of work
Please do a video on how to keep mice out of RMAX CVT. Screen over intakes?
You ever run the wolverine without the cage that goes over the clutch one of my bolts broke off can't get it out

@AppalachianMountainRiders OK thank you
looks like operation get busted bolt out will be under way
What can happen if water ventures through muffler exhaust if machine shuts off in deep water?
Bad things…lol. It can work it’s way into the head and flood the engine with water. Not a good time!
Anyone run the machine without the gaurd
Bless you. lol.

She liked the swim though. For a stock machine on stock tires they keep on suprising me. Hopefully you'll be back up to ride again this summer.

You’re not wrong! I just hope I never have to change a belt on the trail...lol.

I hate it when mud gets in my Seevetea.
Perfect reason to go with a Hunterworks greaseless sheave ;)
Yes sir!
Next you'll have to show us how to clean the cvt on the Honda! O wait...😂😂😂
😂😜
Stay shallow my friends..
You will probably end end up wanting to put the honda motor in the yamaha lol.
