Upgraded from an older 18v kit. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

The Ryobi brushles tools were designed to be used with the newer +HP batteries. And it makes a world of a difference. I have this saw and with a newer +HP battery and a Diablo blade I rip thru solid 4x4's and old wet 7/8inch OSB all day long with ZERO hiccups! I work construction full time with these brushless tools and they do great. My current Diablo blade has been used every day for over a week and still no stalls!

I treated myself to the free brushless tool deal at Home Depot. When you buy the brushless hammer drill kit, you get another tool for free. So I got the brushless angle grinder for free. I have the old brush angle grinder which I'll use just for grinding, and the new brushless is used for cutting and sanding.

Hi. I have the brushless Ryobi circular saw. I too had the cut out issue.... Until I installed a thin kirf 24t Diablo blade... Wow a new saw... I can rip long 2x4, angle rip 2x6 no cut out at all... I highly recommend the upgrade, I think the standard blade is rubbish. Oh and in NZ we have 5.0ah batteries, I use those in this saw.

Good honest review. Like you said these are not the high end Fuel or Flexvolt tools which are double or triple the price. I use the m18 fuel line and the m12 fuel line but also have a few ryobi tools that I use on occasion. Ryobi jigsaw is excellent . Love the ryobi compact blutooth radio and the tire/high volume inflator. With the 4.0 they work great. Thanks

I think you must be the kind of guy who simply MUST push the tools through the cut until the motor stops. I have the brushed versions of ALL the tools shown and I have made most of the cuts shown here with absolutely no trouble. And that includes cutting a 7" or 10" diameter stream-blocking tree limb while in the water in my kayak with "The Axe" blade installed! Advice on your ripping: I think you were somehow pinching the blade. With a couple of simple wedges, I could easily have made those cuts with the BRUSHED tools! Work smarter, not harder. BTW: with my BRUSHED impact driver, I almost always use the smaller batteries with no problems -- going through drywall into a stud with either 2 1/2" or 3 1/2" screws. Also, I can easily cut through plywood with my cordless circular saw. I don't think I can recall of EVER having a Ryobi cordless tool "cutout"!

About equal to my experience with my Ryobi tools; I'll likely buy the brushless ones, but my brushed skill/recip/impact/etc all work amazingly and for years.
The only thing that wasn't up to par was the Krypton-bulb flashlight, which I replaced w/7 Cree LEDs and a SparkFun power supply when it broke. Everything else has been great.

You just have to pay attention to the sound and feel of the tool and it's pretty easy to keep it from stalling. It's slower going with the 3800 RPM blade speed, but the newer 6Ah batteries really give it some extra power.

I just returned the brushless circular saw. I had cutting out doing a cross-cut in a 2x4 as well as 3/4" oak using 4.0ah lithium+ battery. My old 5 1/2" circular saw (original blue version) had no trouble with both of those! If a 5 1/2" does better than a 7 1/4" something isn't right. It may well be that these brushless tools need the new line of batteries that "communicate" with the tools (not sure what means) - but it makes me wonder if this isn't also a good way to get people to buy a bunch more expensive batteries. I'm staying away from brushless for now.

    • @WorkshopAddict

I agree. I do believe the brushless tools are good, you just need to use the right battery with them.

  • @jeffkoefod2069

It's got to be your blades. I picked up the circular saw so I didn't have to worry about tripping breakers by running a saw and compressor at once if I only have one outlet to work with. I work roofing and some general construction and I have cut 2×6, 2×4, 3/4" osb and sheathed houses using the 4.0 ah battery and don't experience the cut out. As soon as I got the saw I put on Diablo blades and it cuts great.

  • @ScotchAddict35

I’m in shock with the circular saw cutting out like that. I have the Ryobi cordless 6-1/2” saw and was able to rip pressure treated 2x4s right down the middle with ease. It has to be the blade. I was using a diablo doing my cuts. I’m no pro just a weekend warrior and I am very pleased with my Ryobi tools. I bet that saw does a lot better with the proper blade. From my experience and owning a few different ryobi saws, the stock blades are garbage and a new blade should be purchased along with the saw.
    Great review! Thanks!

It's the brushless I have the 5.5" ryobi saw and it goes and goes all day. Seems like all Brushless tools Ryobi are making are too touchy on the overload protection except for the impact driver as that gets a break every impact so it should never overload, except maybe if it overheats in the sun building a deck none stop, but even still probably never will. I'll be picking up the impact driver shown here, but I won't bother with the rest, I'll stick to my brushed.

I wonder how new that 4 aH battery is? The 5.0 that I have should have even more oomph. An old battery could be weakened. Would be interesting to compared to a brand new 5aH battery.

Its also probably because he was cutting unfastened lumber. Dear god i never try to cut through something that is merely sitting on horses not secure or held down well. cutting small edges or chunksoff 4x8 plywood/osb being the except but even then i'll throw a box of nails/screws or something to weigh it down in place.

Not a fan of spring loaded that shoots the bits out far.
Reasons: Can't found or locate the bits in the dark, tall bushes & grass, places with many nooks and deep cracks, places with lots of junks, on the boat near water edges, and on top of the ladder.

I have the recip saw, the first time I used it I couldn't get the blade to release. I tried for over an hour and after two application's of WD40 I finally got the lever that frees the blade to move all the way. Apparently right from the factory it might not have been lubricated and the metal pcs froze together. Very frustrating, otherwise tool works great.

I think that when Ryobi comes out with their 9.0 battery, the cutting out problem will be reduced on the big tools. I know when I use my 9.0 battery on my Milwaukee saws, I can notice the power difference from the 5.0 battery.

I like how expansive the Ryobi line is (much larger than Ridgid which I'm in) but the tools I'd use don't seem to have the oomph. The 6.5" ridgid circular saw has served me really well and it looks like the Ryobi would be a downgrade.

The blades do matter, I was able to cut through a stack of three sheets of 15/32 plywood using the factory blade with the brushless circular saw. After some use the saw cut out on me, I replaced the blade with a diablo and it cut just fine through another stack. I wish ryobi had done a dual battery setup like makita did on their saw. For now I'm happy with my 7-1/4" brushless saw. Keep in mind these are cordless tools so they won't be as powerful as a corded saw.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 6 лет назад

Andrew you must be pretty terrible at finding deals on products while shopping. I got most of my Ryobi tools for less than 40% of what brands like Dewalt or Milwaukee cost. Granted most were bought back when they were brushed, but at the time so were the Dewalt and Milwaukee. However I think you have your numbers wrong. Take the reciprocating saw for example, the Ryobi P516 can be had for $60 from Home Depot and sometimes $50 on Amazon while the Milwaukee brushed M18 is $130. The Ryobi brushless P517 is $120 and the Milwaukee brushless is $180. This is fact, current pricing. Somehow, $180 is not only 20% more than $120, plus you can get the Ryobi batteries for more than 20% less than a similar cost:capacity ratio for the Milwaukee or Dewalts. Don't get me wrong, both Milwaukee and Dewalt make better tools for that price difference. My point is only that the difference is far larger than you suggest, especially if you don't need the lastest model of something. For example I can pick up a brushed Ryobi impact driver on Amazon for $35 delivered. The Milwaukee brushed impact driver is closer to $90. The examples go on, for just about every tool so no, it's not just an extra 20%.

NOW FOR THE BAD NEWS. i bought the 7.25 circular saw,4.0 battery. it worked just like the review,it cut off every 5-6 secs. took it back. read reviews that people loved it,BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE,I REALLY NEED A CORDLESS CIRCULAR SAW.BOUGHT A DIABLO BLADE FOR IT. 2ND ONE WAS A ABSOLUTE PIECE OF CRAP! for the money they charge for this brushless,119.-135.00 it just doesnt work. maybe if i hooked the 9.0 amp 100.00 battery it would. 2nd saw went back.

I've been trying to find something like that to use with my old blue angle grinder. I tried the HF guard but it doesn't fit. I'm leary of using a cut off blade without the improved guard. Do you know of any 3rd party guards that would fit the Ryobi angle grinder?

Tell Ryobi made a cordless vacuum stick with power brush head to compete with my house wife brands like Dyson, Hoover, Dirt Devil and Bissell.. With so many batteries available from Ryobi it's going kick ass to the house wife cleaning tools market. .

I fully believe it might have, but I have to ask... why ship a new brushless tool with a blade that does not work? I get it though, we replace the blades on most other saws, not because they dont work, but because of cut quality.

The HP line the brushless tools have two extra terminals that allow the tool to increase power. This actually does better at the 6.0 side for each tool. VCG does a great video on the p238 with the hp and non hp batteries and its shows a tremendous boost in power vs the other non hp battery

There is an array of tools that Ryobi makes (ie; grinder, hammer drill, circular saw, impact driver, sawzall) that need the 9ah battery, you will see a day and night difference with the battery change!!!

What the, I know this is to save the tool but seriously. I will be buying the impact driver though, looks like they build something exceptional there for the price point.

I have the old sawzall and the new sawzall. Both work great. I use them for pruning and structural work. The new one stops when you bind it. I think it's great! Rock the saw so that you're not clogging the blade with chips. I've cut 6-inch branches with it. Before that, I would go up there with a chainsaw on a wobbly ladder. I don't ever want to do that again.
I grew up using hand tools and corded tools that will break your wrist. I don't ever want to go back. I have a corded sawzall that will coast to a stop, and it'll break the blade if you bind it. I have a Milwaukee corded drill with a flywheel inside. When you bind it, it'll rip itself out of your hand if it doesn't break your wrist, and it'll keep coasting, wrapping the cord around itself until it pulls the cord out of the wall, then hits you with the cord.
I have an old hand saw that looks like a sawzall blade with a handle on it. I don't ever want to go up in a tree on a windy day and prune with that, using my strength to hold myself and cut at the same time.

If you're going to be driving any decent sized screws on the regular this ryobi is critically underpowered for that.Even a brushed dewalt with a compact battery does a better job than this with the 4a battery

For real professionals, Ryobi won’t cut it. Durability and power are well worth the extra money you get with a premium brand. These are for Home owners in my opinion. Power tools are definitely one of those things were you get what you pay for.

Nice review! But, it's not "Ree Obi", it's "Rye Obi" ;)
Figures that after I bought several kits they come out with the brushless tools. *sigh*
The grinder kicks off because the amp draw from the battery is too high. The battery pack itself is shutting off power. The grinder is just pulling that much Amps to run it.
The blade that comes with the circular saw is *only* for cross cutting. It's not a ripping blade. Perhaps changing to a ripping blade you'll get far better performance out of it
Hopefully Ryobi will come out with another battery pack a notch higher and that'll overcome pretty much all the cutting out you were experiencing. Personally, I'm going to fabricate one myself and make a custom 8Ah pack for the Miter Saw and Circular Saw.

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews 6 лет назад

Go watch any video that the Ryobi official channel has actually put out. They pronounce it "Ree-obi" themselves. You're right about the new 6Ah packs - they allow the brushless tools to draw significantly more power than the older 4Ah batteries.

  • @vinceking7878

So the brushless motors are more sensitive to overload?? With the correct blades I guess that they will be OK. Way to finicky fussy and underpowered for Serious DIY or professional use. I mean if a blade isn't 100%perfect it should still go through to finish the job in hand. I think that the overload protection is a bit too ott.
