      For us it was torture, but I think it was great for the team. I think the rest did a lot of good for them physically and also mentally having to hear all those people disrespecting them and Jokic, I think it really motivated them, especially in regards to Jokic. You can see the love between those guys. Jamal, being there for the ceremony, what the AG said after game 4 about learning to be selfless from Jokic. In a sense, it couldn’t get any worse than what people were saying about the nuggets after the game 2 loss. When you are at your lowest point, you have the potential for great change, and I trusted the team to show that and take things one game at a time. They’ve got to keep it going with game 5 tonight but regardless of the result I want them to keep fighting and scrapping with the energy and focus we’ve seen these last two matchups

    Denver vs Minny is such a fun series. Wolves are a Defense based team and the Nuggets offense. Ant and Joker are the most interesting players in the league right now. I really think Aaron Gordon is the 3rd best player on the nuggets. Sure, MPJ is a murderous shooting threat and can really cook from deep (also, i love the guy, no hate here) but the threat that AG provides on the baseline and in/around the paint is so beneficial to Den's offense. Mailbag question: It increasingly feels like Denver was a sleeping giant, their first 7 games of the post-season all seemed quite lethargic, like they were bored. And then the drubbing from the Wolves in game 2 finally roused the giant. How big of a step have the Nuggets taken from the first 7 games compared to the last 2? Also, Mike Malone seems like such an underrated coach. He always seems to make nearly perfect adjustments in games, and I think he is the greatest motivator right now. Still no CotY mention even.

    • @therockneverstops8261
      @therockneverstops8261 18 дней назад +1

      The Denver Nuggets definitely woke up. They punched back and the Wolves are struggling to make the adjustment to get their lick-back. A lot of it is Karl Anthony-Towns having a bad couple of games with expectations now heaped on his team to win. Mike Malone is a good coach, but if we're honest, many coaches will go from good to great when coaching an MVP. When coaches are forced to make scheme players maximizing their potential without great players to do that for them, that is when your coaching chops are best seen.

    • @MrKurbek
      @MrKurbek 17 дней назад +1

      @@therockneverstops8261 I mostly agree with the point about coaching, but a minor point to add would be that a certain skill level of coach is needed to attain that buy-in from your best players. All Denver analysis is the same. Denver win: the Nuggets are the greatest team ever. Denver loss: the Nuggets didn't care/didn't try hard enough/weren't motivated.
      Real truth: Denver looks unbeatable under certain circumstances. When they're well rested and tough shots are going down. But they're a little soft, and they look lackluster and beatable in other games because...they are.

    • @bradleylovej
      @bradleylovej 17 дней назад

      @@therockneverstops8261 I used to think of it this way, but now I see the opposite. I think it is actually really hard to coach around a very talented player. Look at how many teams have had bonafide stars that never really go anywhere. With these players you have to manage egos, build a team around them instead of the team you wanted to build, and put this talented player's very specific style in a position to win.
      For example, wtf do you do with a player like Luka? Savant on offense, but slow, crybaby, bad defense, and ball dominant. Is he an amazing player any franchise would want? Yes. Is it easy to make a team around him and consistently win basketball games? I really doubt it.

      3a and 3b. Gordon and MPJ are both amazing on the boards. AG adds a ton of defensive flexibility. MPJ creates the spacing that is absolutely needed to make the Joker , Murray pick and roll extremely effective. I think it's more important for MPJ to contribute by scoring, while AG can affect the game without really scoring. When AG is producing on the scoreboard it means everything else in the offense is clicking and he's the release valve getting the open dunks, because of the affective spacing and the best pick and roll in the business.
      What we're also seeing when teams want to get physical, AG can start the offense by bringing the ball up, which is invaluable in this particular series, while MPJ spacing will become more important in other series etc.

    I'd argue Aaron Gordon over MPJ when it comes to best role player on the Nuggets. Yeah, MPJ can and does hit shots a lot better than AG, but AG does more as a ball-handler and as a defender. Denver's weakness was their bench and they are currently out performing MNs. AG has a career 3pt % in the 30's iirc and he has been shooting over 50%. That 11/12 shooting was also nuts. If he can sustain that through the remainder of the series, Nuggets will be hard to beat. Watching game 4, much like game 1, that was a lot closer of a game than the numbers really indicate. Game 1, MN got hot at the right moment and held off DNVR. Game 4, DNVR was hitting on a lot of contested shots and MN (excluding Ant) missed several open shots. DNVR had their one big run late 1Q, plus IMHO MN messed up their rotation in the non-Jokic minutes. Most of the game after DNVRs big run, the lead mostly stayed around 11-13pts until MN finally ran out of possessions in their final push. That 8pt swing at the end of the half came back to bite them in the end.

    I'm really thankful to the league for what they're doing to keep it a more offense based league. MN is good on defense but nobody wants to see that. That's 90's ball. This is 2024, and I think the league figured out we want to see Denver win draining open looks, so that means limiting MN's defense big time. Like since game 3. MN would have been a good team in the 90's but not today! Defense doesn't get views like offense does and the league responds accordingly.

    I'm kinda shocked MN fans aren't more outraged by this series? I'm neutral but I can clearly see that the league parachuted in to save Denver after going down 0-2. I mean it's beyond obvious, but i think maybe a lot of fans don't notice because it's kinda sneaky how they did it. They changed from a physical style reffing (normal for playoffs in all NBA history) to a super soft style of reffing that doesn't really allow much defense.
    And they did that immediately after Denver went down 0-2. To the point MN's starting 5 was all in foul trouble by halftime. That's sufficient to throw a game, especially when Denver excels on open looks (which they got all night cuz MN was too afraid to play any d for fear of fouling out)
    And what's worse is: Denver finished the game taking 16 free throws to MN's 4 in the second half, so then it looks fair to people who just look at the box score instead of actually watching the game.

    • @mkakoje

      @MattIacoletti 17 дней назад +1

      @@mkakoje Look WHEN the fouls happened. This is how they get away with rigging, dude. Denver finished the game taking 16-4 free throws (all once the game was already decided)... so, then, to people who just look at the box score (as opposed to actually watching the game) can say dumb talking points to defend the rigging.
      You probably complained about the refs being against Denver in Games 1 and 2, too. And of course you never mentioned then that the free throws and fouls FAVORED Denver in both games. Because, magically, you understand that simply pointing at the box score says almost nothing about whether the game was reffed fairly or not.

      @MattIacoletti 17 дней назад +1

      @@mkakoje Sorry I'm not trying to be mean but it's just tiresome the way that fans defend rigging for their favorite team. The league depends on you guys doing that. Kat needs to score 25+ and Reid 20+ for the Wolves to take game 5 - and they have to start strong and take the 1st Quarter. If Gobert can't contain Jokic below 20, better let Rudy come from the bench - because Rudy's presence hampers the spacing and transition game of the Wolves. Otherwise, the Nuggets will just steamroll through Game 5.

I would argue joker has one of the strongest bases in nba history which allows him to completely flat line who ever is guarding him.

    As someone who loves OKC and SGA and I apprecaite his game. I would not take SGA over Tatum to start a team. SGA is not a big enough threat from deep and he isnt big enough on defense to dominate the paint like Contenders typically have to do.
    Tatums numbers this year are only not at superstar level because of the additions of KP and holiday to the starting lineup. Thats it.
    Otherwise Tatum can easily put up the same numbers as SGA while also providing elite switchable defense and streteching the floor.
    Is SGA a good three point shooter? Yeah hes ok. But he wont shoot them and isnt reliable to have him shoot a lot. He cant stretch the floor. He doesnt defend anyone taller than a 3. He is limited in ways TAtum is not.
