Definitely look into coming to Williamsburg, VA. Virginia native here and can attest to how fun it is to see the historical buildings, reenactments and the fascinating history. Colonial Williamsburg also has Christmas time events and decor. What's not mentioned is that Busch Gardens amusement park is just down the road so you could have a great day there to break up the adventure. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is one of the top amusement parks in the US. Yorktown and Jamestown are also not far. Yorktown was the site of a major and decisive battle against the British. Jamestown is the first successful British colony. Virginia Beach is only about an hour away if you stayed in Williamsburg so if you want to go to the beach you totally can make a day of it. You'd also be a day trip away from Arlington National Cemetery, Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home) and Washington, DC. Driving from Williamsburg, it's only about 2 1/2 hours to Alexandria or DC. Being so close also means you're right here at Norfolk Naval Base which is the largest on the east coast with Oceana Air Station just 30 min away where you might could see some jets doing takeoff/landing drills. Granted all the drive times are dependent on traffic but you could see a LOT of things without having to budget for actual travel time between the different destinations. (Say you're a former hotel employee in a touristy destination without saying you're a former hotel employee in a touristy destination, lol)
Never way too flat, too many hurricanes, huge insects. Try Colorado
Some other suggestions: Charleston SC/Savannah GA. The Florida Everglades & Florida Keys. New England (Mass, VT, NH & Maine). Pennsylvania Dutch country. Denver and the Rocky Mountains. California coast (SR 1 or Pacific Hwy). Oregon and Washington coasts. Alaska.
If they go to the Florida Everglades they better keep an eye out for the man-eating crocodiles that walk around & hide awaiting to attack any nearby people.
One of my favorite places to visit is Washington, D.C.. I could spend a week just visiting all the museums. My favorite is the the Smithsonian Institute and the National Archives. At the Archives, they display various historical documents on a rotational basis, but the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights are on permanent display. The Smithsonian actually consists of several museums, including the National Air and Space Museum. The National Holocaust Museum is one of the quietest museums I have been too. Even the young children seem to instinctively know that it is a place of reflection on the evils of man.
I’m a big fan of Williamsburg, Virginia. I’ve been there several times and enjoy the Colonial Williamsburg experience very much.
In my reply, I forgot to say that Mystic Seaport, Old Sturbridge Village and Plymouth Plantation are must see, too ..
You are doing such a great thing teaching your darling kids the importance of responsibility & loyalty (diabetic pup) and delayed gratification (saving for trip). In the end, kids remember more how present you are and doing things together rather than things, expensive electronics and a lavish lifestyle (while going into debt).
Stay away from Disney unless you like long lines that you pay way too much to stand in for hours. The Williamsburg to DC trip is pretty short and you can also hit Gettysburg PA above DC that is my favorite park and filled with history and beauty.
... nobody is spending all that money on plane tickets alone to visit Gettysburg people would rather wait in those lines because it's Disney this might be the only time they come to the US they're going to hit the top spots
I am a native New Yorker and so many foreigners only think of NYC (the place of my birth) and forget about Upstate NY (northern NY) and Long Island. Long Island is east of NYC and it is where I grew up. There are tons of small towns on LI and great beaches. Just fly into JFK Airport and take the Long Island Rail Road from Jamaica Station eastward. The further east you go, the better the beaches and towns. If you want to go to northern NY State, take the train to Penn Station in Manhattan from Jamaica Station and then switch to a Metro North Train or to an Amtrak train to head to the Canadian border. NY State has so much to see outside of NYC.
Upstate is absolutely beautiful. Well worth the drive.
I wouldn't call Washington DC "clean" 😂 but for a tourist it does have a lot of neat things to visit. The Smithsonian is great lots of free things to do.

@@Jklopoppcorn I liked it as an adult (under 50 lol) but yeah, most younger ppl might find the museums and the historical element a bit boring...maybe not. I agree that the Smithsonian is great to visit. As a young schoolboy I liked going to Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum in Michigan and being able to be on the Freedom Train (I'll let you google it). But as for DC, it is a lot of walking or at the very least being on your feet a long time.
@@Jklopoppcorn I absolutely hate that city to be clear lol but I'd disagree with that...sure many young people are not interested in the same stuff but for what you can do and cost prohibitive for a family there's still some decent things to look into. Also not everyone under 50 is checked out and drooling over TikTok as some people assume but my main point stands that a lot of DC is pretty disgusting it's far from a clean city....if such a thing even exists.
I picked DC as a vacation spot a couple of years ago when I was 26. I was only there for a few short days but tried to get in as much as I could and just kept walking everywhere until I found my next destination. And I still feel like I want to go back and see even more. I didn't find it to be dirty in any particular area either.
Florida man here. Destin is a great spot, not as slam packed as Miami, Orlando or Tampa. It's also a great destination if you want to do deep sea fishing, lots of boats around you can charter to take you out. Most of them will even clean your catch for you if you want. Good spot to do most things on the water. The Gulf of Mexico will have much warmer and clearer waters than on either of the coasts. Geographically, it's closer to the equator than Egypt and the water is very shallow which makes it a lot warmer than ocean water as well. The water temperature in the gulf is generally around 32 to 35C (92-95 for us.) The white sand is very soft and makes it incredibly easy to spot anything you don't want to step on.
Washington DC is often passed over. It is absolutely worth seeing. The museums are awesome. Then you can drive hours to see Virginia hot spots. There are also Louray Caverns in Virginia to see. Disney World cost a family a fortune,!
DC is amazing with museums and beautiful places, just west of there thr horse country is so nice people like Robert Duval live there. A drive south takes you past Richmond to colonial Williamsburg and past 3 theme parks. From there you can head to the Outer Banks of NC or if you want a drive head down to Charleston and Hilton Head SC.

Well, I would say these 10 are a bit subjective and the list could be extended to the top 1,000 places for family vacations. In addition, that AI voice is horrible.

Legoland in Florida is actually the old cypress gardens theme park. Cypress gardens was just that some botanical gardens and one coaster. It was just an escape from the heat but fun, Merlin went in and bought the land.
I would add Charlston SC, Ashville NC and surrounding Smoky Mountains, Key West Fla, Lake Placid & Adirondack State Park (up State NY 6.1 million acres rugged mountains ), Colorado's million dollar high way & all the great small towns on it, Lake Tahoe California and Northern Idaho.. But could add like 50 more places as well .
Jono....I was raised in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The Adirondack Park is a 6 million acre state park in which the land is preserved and the wildlife is protected. The little town of about 600 people in which I was raised, is about 230 miles North of New York City and about 145 miles south of Montreal, Canada. Growing up we had 4 seasons and plenty to do in each one. The snowmobile trails are in the hundreds and the skiing is abundant in Winter. In the Summer there is plenty of fishing and swimming. Lake George was just classified as one of the cleanest in the USA. I grew up 20 miles from there. In the Fall there is such beautiful foliage, it is breath taking. It is a great place to raise kids!!
That's a beautiful place. Spent a few days in Glenn's Falls and took a drive up to Ft. Ticondaroga.

When planning your trip to the US, be sure to check distances between the places you want to visit. The distance between San diego and Miami is, I believe , nearly 4000 miles.
Miami was disappointing for me.

I would suggest looking at what you enjoy on vacations. Do you like history, nature, going to museums and zoos, culture, food and so on. Also try to figure out will you be staying in one city or multiple cities or states. From there that should held to narrow down you choices. Most American historical sites are going to be on the east coast, especially Boston. San Diego zoo is world famous and the most visited in the U.S.. Also remember, many of the big state fairs happen in the fall around September and October so if you want to see a big fair keep that in mind. If you do head during this time then that is also college football season so you could try to catch a game and if it's still September then you could see a baseball game as well.
i HIGHLY recommend a trip to DC, to check out all the monuments, museums, and the arlington national cemetery, where you can see US troops perform the changing of the guard of the tomb of the unnamed soldier! you can also see the grave sites of many US presidents and medal of honor recipients there.... plus its only a couple of hours drive from washington DC to Williamsburg!!! theyre close to each other
I grew up in the Berkshires of Massachusetts,on a farm. It is one of the most gorgeous spots ever,rivers,lakes,snow in the winter,but my favorite time was fall,when the leaves changed brilliant colors of yellow,red,and orange.
I'm from the sunniest place in the world in Southwest Arizona....everyone only thinks this state has is Grand Canyon & desert & Phoenix or that it's insanely hot year round but it actually gets literal freezing temperatures in the middle of the desert at night....we have a bunch of lakes & Colorado River & wetlands....we also have all four seasons & weather including monsoon season that has lots of dangerous flooding....Northern Arizona has forests & even a ski resort cus it snows
There is so much to see, not just the East or West coasts, so many skip over the Midwest states, which there is also plenty to see! 😊💜
Cumberland Island, Cayo Costa, Providence Canyon, Tallulah Gorge, Stone Mountain, Bremen Waterfalls, Mammoth Caves. These are a few places i have been and can attest are great little hidden gems of the South. I am a Georgia native. Favorite place out of the list is Cumberland Island.
I've been to Williamsburg VA, A few times and I loved it but if you guys can handle the winter weather Christmas time is the best!!
The water park in Federal Heights called Water World is my favorite spot in Colorado. I’m also a fan of steamboat springs, Colorado, but it can get very pricey. I’m also a fan of the water park at Elitch Gardens in downtown Denver. Not a water park, but I’m also a fan of the Denver Museum Of Nature And Science. The Botanical Garden is cool in Denver also. The Butterfly Pavilion is cool. All of this in the Denver Metro Area.
My ex was a Disney Princess and Tinkerbell at Disney World. Place is cool for kids and hearing about a lot of the things they do to make the park special for guests really is incredible. Loved it when i was a little kid, would not be my first choice as a teenager or adult. The Hudson River Valley and all the lakes in New York State are phenomenal for fishing and have some of the most beautiful nature in the country.

The beaches anywhere between Pensacola and Destin are beautiful, but crowded in summer. St Louis, MO is an awesome place to visit too. Lots to see and do. Also Savannah, GA.
There are still some areas in Pensacola where you can walk a mile and not see anyone. You just have to know where to go.
I'm A Dallas, Texas Native & The 1st Time I Saw A Palm Tree Was In Houston, Texas When My Grandpa Took Me On A Trip. Houston Is About 4 1/2-5hrs South of Dallas Depending On Traffic/Construction

Guys, San Diego is THE nicest place to stay in California. First time travelers always go straight to LA and then San Francisco and are always disappointed in the traffic, homelessness and dirty streets. Everything those two cities have, San Diego has better. Better beaches, better museums, better night life and better people. And if you REEEEEEAAALLLY want to go to Disneyland, it’s only an hour north.
I’ve been to both Disneyland and Disneyworld and was never into the “Disney” part of it, but you have to remember there are multiple theme parks at each location that are much more enjoyable for older kids and adults. I got to go on the Star Wars ride “Star Tours” when it was just opening at Disneyworld. I was scared it was going to be a roller coaster, which i hate, but it was one of those motion rides which was a lot easier for me to deal with. Don’t rule out the Disney parks altogether, do some research and see what all they have in them. If you have the money, you can buy special passes that let you bypass all the lines to get in. Plus you could stay at a resort hotel right inside the park which makes it so much easier to get in to the parks every morning.
Avoid Disney Land And Disney World, over priced and crowded. Your family probably would enjoy Busch Gardens park though. I found it 100% better than Disney. Oh fyi, there is a Busch Gardens theme park right next to historic Williamsburg, plus only about 45 minutes from The Jamestown pioneer settlement. Not to mention, less than an hour from Virginia beach. Also Washington DC is also very close. Its a great area to vacation. So much to do in every direction.
There are so very many amusement parks and theme parks that are just as fun (some even better) and way cheaper than disney. Texas has dozens of them. The midwest as well. Denver etc. Too many to list. There are water parks and other types of theme parks like knott's berry farm...just stay away from disney, universal and the 'famous' ones. Lines would be long at those, parking expensive, tickets to enter not to mention the local hotels would also be expensive.
Busch Gardens is way better if your there. Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio, Elitch Gardens in Denver (theme and water park), I mentioned Texas or any of the 6 flags parks are fun.
San Diego is beautiful, and the weather is always great. Balboa Park with the museums, the Maritime Museums (one very cheap pass gets you into all of them) with a real sailing ship, ww2 sub, vintage ferry, etc., Coronado, Fish Market in Point Loma is right on the harbor and is the best place for fresh fish caught that morning, the famous light house, Mount Helix Park, Sunset cliffs, plenty of hiking or bike riding on the coast/bay/harbor, etc. or just walks on the boardwalk in Mission Beach at sunset.
Michigan's Mackinaw Island is great if you want to be out and about in some of the most beautiful scenery, no cars allowed! You walk, ride bikes or horse and buggy. There's a fort where they fire off cannons, a famous hotel where the window glass is so old that it is 'dripping', the fudge is to die for LOL, the ferry ride over is nice with the view of Big Mac and the surrounding islands.
There are just too many places to have fun and see to waste time/money at anything disney.

Or Skip Florida and come to the world capital of roller coasters, Ohio.
You guys need to go to places with horse back riding, like a ranch. Places with hiking trails, caverns to explore, fishing spots, stuff like that
If you really want to come to Texas would be September-October for State Fair or February-March for Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Those are fine suggestions, however my top 15 are the following: 15) Tampa Bay area. The Tampa Bay area has history (Ft. Brooke, Ybor City, a section of Tampa, Egmont Key), beaches - Ft. DeSoto, Clearwater and other gulf beaches and great foods), 14) Orlando, Disney is okay, we like Universal better. Besides, Orlando, head southwest to Legoland and visit Bok Tower Gardens nearby. 13) Michigan's Lake Michigan lakeshore. Small towns and beautiful beaches. Saugatuck Dunes is wonderful. 12) Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada mountains. Besides Yosemite, Lake Tahoe needs to be visited. 11) South Dakota Mount Rushmore should be on everyone's bucket list 10) New York Catskills and Adirondack Parks. The Hudson Valley is part of the group. 9) Arcadia National Park, you can see some sites, including Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the Atlantic Coast. 8) Connecticut, it may be a small state, and people think it is just a place to drive through, yet Connecticut has history (Essex, New London), Museums (Wadsworth in Hartford, Essex Steam Train and Riverboat Ride, Gillette Castle State Park, any of Yale's museums, Dinosaur State Park, Mark Twain House and Harriet Beecher Stowe House in Hartford.), food (visit New Haven for Apizza from Pepe's, Sal's or Modern Apizza, grab a hamburger from Lois Lunch, the birthplace of it, ice cream from any stand, best place UConn Dairy Bar.) and natural beauty of Connecticut. 7) Daytona Beach, Florida. A drivable beach, and where the American sport known as NASCAR was born. I'd visit it during February. 6) Boston and Cape Cod. Visit Boston's Freedom Trail, then Ferry over to the Cape and enjoy the beaches of the Cape. 5) Vermont, an underrated state but lots of hiking trails and swimming holes. Covered Bridges are known in the state. 4) New Hampshire, Lake Winnipesaukee and Mount Washington are must see, 3) Yellowstone, the oldest national park in the world. 2) Great Smokies Mountains, would include the area from Atlanta to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 1) Wisconsin Dells, water parks capital.
Depending on your interests, Garrin would love to visit the US Hockey Hall of Fame in Minnesota. Are you an amusement park fan? I'd visit Lake Compounce, the oldest amusement park in the US. It is in Bristol Connecticut, just southwest of Hartford.
Americans are stereotyped as being uncultured, however, we have places that is as historic as Europe.
I could recommend visiting even more places.
Universal Studios and Busch Gardens are much better than Disney for sure!
Texas in the summer can be miserable. But the first 2 weeks of June can be pleasant (if not stormy). We want you to come but have a good time. One of the large groups of immigrants was Czechoslovakia came here in the mid 19th century before air conditioning. If you stay well hydrated & in the cool as much as possible, you will have a blast. But it is better in fall.
c'mon now, traveling half the way around the world to go to texas... that's such a huge waste of a trip.
I live in San Diego and its absolutely beautiful, the weather is great, food is amazing, and the beer is top tier.
San Diego has two nicknames, "America's Finest City" and "The Craft Beer Capital of America".
October is a good time to go to the southern US. The weather is nice an cooling off. An it's fall festival season.
Williamsburg is my top favorite on the list. Been there many times and I never get bored. There's always something new to see or experience. You can opt to stay at hotels off the property area or you can even up to stay in one of the restored homes. Their website explains it all. The restaurants are awesome, but those flame candles are backed up by electrical faux candles. There are nice restaurants and things to see around the property as well. As a matter of fact I can't think of the name right now but there is a restaurant that has the best waffles and chicken served whether you want it for breakfast lunch or dinner.
If you do decide to visit Florida. No matter how tempting it looks. I'd never go swimming in the ocean myself and I definitely wouldn't allow my child to either. Just today a fisherman was attacked by a shark in Florida and is in critical condition. And just a couple of weeks before that three different people were attacked by sharks in waist deep water in different locations on the same day in Florida's Waters. Like I said I don't swim in the ocean at all. But I love fishing in the ocean. But if I get a Shark on my line. I simply cut the line. I don't even want to mess with a shark.
As a little boy, around five years old. We lived in Corpus Christi Texas for a couple of years. I distinctly remember my mother took me to a fishing pier and once there we saw a gentleman who had caught about three good sized hammerhead sharks. And he had them on the pier. There were several people gathered around admiring his catch when I spotted another little boy there with his Mom. I stood there and watched as the little boy walk over to one of the hammerheads that was off to the side of the others. And while everyone else was looking at the other two large hammerheads. I watched as the other boy bent down and put his index finger into the hammerheads mouth. A very quick bite and the little boys finger just disappeared from his hand. It happened so quickly that he just stood there looking at the blood squirting from the stump that was his finger just a split second ago.
It took my five year old brain a few seconds as well to register what I had just witnessed. The little boy was still quietly just silently standing there, in shock I guess, looking at his squirting stump when I began to scream drawing everyone's attention to the other boy. And then pandemonium ensued and I was quickly scooped up by my mother and taken to safety as she tried to console me. It's as vivid to me today at sixty one years old as it was that day in 1968. I'll never forget it. So no I don't swim, surf snorkel or scuba dive in the ocean at all. Ever.
I agree with you. Skip Disney world. Come to Tennessee instead. We have Dollywood theme park, the rides and attractions are great. And the location is fantastic
It's located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee in the town of Pigeon Forge. Just a few miles further east is Gatlinburg, Tennessee, known as the gateway to the Smokies.
If you have a rental car you can drive up through Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There are several places you can stop there and enjoy the view out over the mountain tops between Tennessee and North Carolina.
Don't be surprised when you're driving through the park if you don't get a brown bear sighting somewhere along the way. If you see the car start to slow down and a lot of people looking out the windows pointing there's probably a bear off to the side of the road in the woods that you can see. I've seen a few of them up close and personal I'm still on the inside.
There's plenty of historical places in that Park including an entire authentic pioneer village you can visit in Gatlinburg there are a lot of local artisans making crafts. If you cross over the mountains into North Carolina you can also explore a native American village in Cherokee
Before you leave, you can visit the world's largest buc-ee's which is located in Sevierville Tennessee, but not far from Dollywood.
Many people want to ask why would they put Buc-ee's their. The reason is that the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has the most visitors of all the national parks.
Oh and I also recommend if you're going to Florida and you want a really family friendly place it's going to be less expensive than Miami definitely go to Destin or to the Gulf Coast in that area. The beaches are much prettier there.. the sand is sugar white and powdery soft. You'll see all kinds of sea creatures and I don't think you'll regret it. That area is about an 8-hour drive from my home in Tennessee so you can imagine that that's where I vacation most of the time.
I'm from the hudson valley and the best times are spring or fall. it's to hot in the summer. try olana in upstate ny.

Yosemite is bigger then that Valley he mentioned but it requires a little more effort, so no way would you call the place "small". That's why it's so crowded in the valley.
You definitely have to prepare yourself for hiking if you want to see the best of Yosemite. If it's hot, it can be a bit brutal. Beautiful, but be prepared for a lot of exercise. LOL
I am also a history buff, a great tour in my home ,Alabama is in and around mobile bay, there's battleship park and fort Morgan.
You should see the Seguoias and the Red Wood Trees. They’re amazingly big - biggest trees in the world. They’re near San Francisco but skip that city. It’s gotten dirtier and they have a big homeless problem so see Yosemite National Park instead. It’s fantastic. Just don’t go in summer…too busy!
So many of the museums in Washington DC are FREE. But-- summer is hot, humid and crowded. There is a lot to see, though.
Disneyworld is much more than rides, it's basically a gigantic city. Your family would love it. It's the original theme park in the world.
Orlando doesn’t have any roller coasters over 200 feet because of a height restriction. Most are way under and have some thrill but nothing to scream your head off at. The only 200 foot coaster we have is mako and it barely makes the 200 mark. Most are family coasters that maybe have a bank or helix but nothing too crazy.
That’s why Busch Gardens is way better, imo.
it's 95 degrees here in texas currently in my area which is closest to louisiana in east texas which i think is about 35 Celsius and the humidity is 47% so unless that's no problem i would definitely recommend going around september
Kids would probably like a water park. There are some great ones across America though they can be crowded. National and State Parks are best.
Walt Disney World is GREAT. And there is more to it than roller coasters. You have no idea what ur missing. It’s a very magical place.
Love watching your family, I live in north central Alabama between Birmingham and jasper. I have been stationed in San Diego, recommended. The Florida keys are also recommended. It is June 29 here in the deep south, not 10am yet already 85 fernhight.
It you go to Orlando I guarantee you you’d absolutely love it. There’s more different types of things to do there than anywhere on earth. But Busch Gardens (in nearby Tampa) is actually way better than Disney. BGardens is actually an animal reserve with thousands of animals and lots of great rides!
The Sphere has just opened in Las Vegas and is going to be a top tourist destination.
I live in Alaska, but is alittle far to go but worth it for fishing, wildlife n see Mt Mckinney ( which has been renamed to its original Mt. Denale). I just sold our condo in Kawaii, Hawaii or I would let u stay there😢. I'm thinking of moving to Maryland2025 or 2026. I will live on the Chesapeake Bay close to DC. DC is a good place to visit so many monuments like WW1 n WW2 n Vietnam War Wall n Washington Monument n White House. Outside DC in Arlington, VA the Monument of Unknown. Soldier, n Arlington Cemitary that has over 9,000 soldiers, presidents n slaves, n so much more to see. Many cities Dc,NYC, LA, Chicago there are places not to visit but just ask citizens where to go. Hawaii is a beautiful state to visit😊
I’ve been to both Disneyland and Disney World and enjoyed my time at both. Disney World isn’t loaded with roller coasters. It has so much more to offer. Disney World is made up of different “worlds”. You would definitely enjoy Epcot and the Worlds. Epcot is educational and offers insights as to what may be coming in the future. The Worlds is the different countries that you can visit. Each country usually has a restaurant that features food from that country. The street performers are from that particular country.
While many think that the park is for children only, there is an adult area.
There is a ton of things to do at the park that has nothing to do with roller coasters. Some examples: character breakfasts, luau (Hawaiian cookout) on the beach or watching a movie at the outdoor theater. There are many perks to staying at one of the resorts within the park. We camped at Fort Wilderness where we could watch a movie every night for free with free popcorn! You have access to the park an hour early before the general public is allowed in. The same at night. You got to stay later in the park. The electric light parade is cool to see at night. There’s one in the Disneyland area of Disney World and one on the lake!
As for standing in line, we went off season and average length in line was around 10 minutes.
I would love to go back to see the new areas of the park that have been built since the last time I was there.

Also, if you guys like military stuff, how would you like to free-walk an entire aircraft carrier? The USS Midway is a retired aircraft carrier turned into a museum.
I wonder if an over the Pole flight might be fairly inexpensive from where you are? Fairbanks or Anchorage, Alaska? You might need at least a week though..... So much to see but you HAVE to take the Denali National Park full day tour. Worth every mile. A clear day lets you see Denali's peak....all 20,310 ft (6.19km) tall. Also...animals....more animals ...and..er...more more animals. Train ride to the park and either camp or stay in a hotel/motel/lodge. Summer for us is fairly short but June and July are quite warm.
At my brother-in-law's funeral they revealed that after taking his young daughters to Disney World, he planned vacations all over the world, so he did not have to go again.
I live near D.C. and work there they were only showing the best parts, if you could see behind the camera its full of homeless camps and all that.
Washington, DC is nice to visit to get a look at all the history....but only once and get the hell out of there ASAP. It's VERY expensive and has some very high crime neighborhoods if you don't know where you're going.
Go at end or beginning of travelling season, when US kids are in school.
Destin is great, vacationed there the last 3years. I've Iived in San Diego for 24 years, best part of California. It has everything.
Guys, don't forget about the state park systems. The National Parks are beautiful, but the 50 state have their own parks and nature preserves, and they can be almost as breathtaking as the national parks, low or no entry fee and are very rarely ever overcrowded. John Muir State Park here in California is extremely beautiful, but almost no one from oversees are even aware it even exists...same story for all the hundreds of states across the country ....Not to mention the County Parks in each state. The National Park System is just one of many park systems in the US.
The other thing you need to focus on in visiting Washington D.C. is that all of those fabulous museums that they mentioned are TOTALLY FREE. No admission charge!
Like history,in greater Phoenix az area there goldsmith mine a 1800 mining town that you can through plus a mystery house ,at apache junction atvthe base of superstition mountains (lost dutch mine);tuscon had tombstone az you can walk through see where the gun fight happens(doc holiday and wyatt earp)!plus the military plane graveyard where we retire military planes at ( miles and miles);lots of lake all over where you xan fish or jet ski, meteor carter is pretty kool tye impact zone and meteor in museum plus Apollo space ship

I would say Hersheypark in Hershey, Pennsylvania is a different experience! It's a theme park, that produces chocolates to the world.
Wow, this top 10 list is ACTUALLY spot on. I don’t see that too often. I too scoffed at Disney word but still begrudgingly went with a friend as it was free lol. It was AWESOME (even tho the cost is lowkey criminal). Yellowstone is incredible as well. I loved loved Williamsburg, and Miami is like paradise on earth (if you spend lots of money). I still haven’t gone to Utah, but I think that would up there too. Oh, and I totally agree about NY. NYC is so overrated, but upstate NY, especially the Adirondacks, is beautiful too
I hope they show the blue ridge parkway in NC. The outer banks are awesome and gem mining and Mt. Mitchell the tallest peak East of the Mississippi River. The Baltimore House that is the largest house in the USA which is actually a castle.
If you think you would like the history of Williamsburg ,VA, you should consider new castle in my home state of Delaware. N.C.,Delaware is ORIGINAL. Yep original. The town is paved w the ballasts from the ships. Check it out.

Williamsburg is actually not far from Washington DC - just an hour and a half drive - so it's easy to fit in both!
Maybe not Disney but you may like Universal especially if you like Harry Potter and there is a Despicable Me ride there. I live in Florida so it’s not hard for me to go. Atlanta Georgia has a lot of fun things to do as well it has the biggest aquarium in the US I believe.
My respect for you and your family doubled when you boo'd Disney. I'd assume just burn my money than give it to Disney! That said, if you're vacationing in America for the first time, maybe you've got 2-3 weeks, I think the best place you could go to get your money's worth is south Florida. Reason being, there's SO much to do and it's all relatively close together so you won't have to spend a bunch of time and money driving. There's obviously beautiful beaches the kids would love where you can do some pier fishing or maybe parasailing(if you're brave), the everglades are incredible, there's lake Okeechobee and a bunch of beautiful state parks. Then maybe you and the lady could go experience the best nightlife in the world, Miami.

I lived in Panama City area for two years. the beaches are the best in Florida. I lived in the Florida Keys, Naples/ Ft. Myers, and St. Augustine Florida. The Panhandle is the BEST! But if you go to the Florida Keys , Bahia Honda Beach is pretty darn nice. Stay out of Orlando! Traffic is aweful.
Orlando is a very large city, although it is known for the incredible amount of theme parks it has a lot going on. You are a short visit yo cape Canaveral, swamps and forests with large sprigs. There is a lot of nature around the city. You are not definitely the average family, so Orlando won't be your favorite place to visit, but it might be for 80 percent of the population, therefore that is why it was put at number 1. Miami is a wold city, more focused on adults. I would not put it as a family friendly place, I live there and it is more for a young adult clientele. Avoid all major holidays, it gets crazy.

Not sure if it's changed much but Miami was known more as party beach atmosphere, not family friendly.
For Legos, you have to go old school, the generic pieces, where you build your own creations. Not this new age stuff where you're building a specific design. Mix in Lincoln logs and electric slot cars and a model train. But yeah y'all are more outdoorsy and sports.

Do a reaction to the Smithsonian in Washington D.C , Also nobody goes to Disney based on what they watch. It's much more than just rides. Many other places in Orlando other than Disney. I know I sure as heck would choose Orlando rather than driving across Texas.

You need to explain to us Americans what kinda vacation you want to take and for how long. Those two things make a huge difference.
Williamsburg is great and it is near Busch Gardens for rides and Virginia Beach. And its only a few hours drive South of Washington DC *a three hour shorter flight from EU. Besides, Virginia is green and Texas is not,
Williamsburg is only 2 1/2 hours from Washington, DC.
Also, Mt Vernon, George Washington’s home, is across the river from Washington, DC.
New York state is beautiful not a fan of the city though. too crowded
