- The man accused in the brutal beating death of a transgender woman in Miami Beach made his first appearance before a judge on Thursday as family members are seeking answers in her killing.
Gregory Fitzgerald Gibert, 53, is facing a second-degree murder charge in the killing of 37-year-old Andrea Dorias Dos Passos, whose body was found Tuesday near the Miami City Ballet.

I am a Christian. The people on here that are being hateful just because this person was transgender is just wrong. You’re supposed to love everyone equally. You don’t have to love the sin but you’re supposed to love them. You’re supposed to pray for them. Where is all the love at? And where is the hatred coming from? I pray that her family gets healing and I know for certain that God counts everyone of their tears, and he will seek justice and revenge for this person’s life being taken too soon.
As a Christian, you need to dive back into your Bible and read a little more on the subject of gender. “She” is a he, and was already walking a path away from God. Stop and think for a moment, that perhaps this was God’s will because of this man’s life choices. Retribution or not, what if that person was doing God’s work? Don’t speak as a Christian, and condone this transgender alphabet nonsense.

It’s incredible how all of the comments that are transphobic are just trolls, and all of the ones that aren’t recognize what a tragedy this was. You can disagree with the way someone existed or chose to live their lives without dancing over their grave or making light of it. Regardless of what you think, someone was killed; brutally; and there are very few things that justify such a heinous act. Identifying as a woman, regardless of sex at birth, is not one of them.
I will not entertain or respond to hateful responses, and I request that those who agree with me do the same. There is no convincing a hateful person not to hate someone else, and there’s no use even giving them that kind of attention. They want to fight with us, so don’t allow them. Can’t fix stupid.

Well said. I am an atheist, I don’t believe in any god or devil. The victim was a HUMAN BEING who deserved safety and dignity. I see many religious-identifying people spewing hateful comments about the victim; they can’t see a human beyond a gender. Those people are bigots, pure and simple. Some use their religion to justify their hatred. It is disgusting. It is inhumane and terrifying that anyone would use “god” to justify murder and prejudice.
If you feel angered by someone because of their gender identity, seek professional counseling and therapy. It is unhealthy to brew hatred like that.
Everyone deserves safety, food, water, education, dignity, and bodily autonomy.

People who are more concerned with what someone is rather than who they are tend to not be good people, and are the reason why screwed up things like this happen. They normalize this kind of thinking when they focus on how people are 'different' and why they think it is 'wrong', that leads to the thought that if someone is 'different' and being different is 'wrong', then they're deserving of punishment for their 'sin'. It's just another short step for someone to believe that it's then their job to deliver that punishment to correct the perceived 'sin'. What happened to this person is the natural progression of this twisted mindset.
People with this mindset always seem to be looking for an identifying characteristic of another person they can point to that allows them to feel superior to someone else. And should someone try to challenge that feeling of superiority they hold, they tend to lash out, sometimes violently.
I've never understood the mentality. Every person is unique, even identical twins grow to have their own set of life experiences that shape them mentally and physically. It's just sad that so many people go through life blind, they see nothing but labels on everyone they come across and waste all their time thinking of all the ways they're better than someone else based on some arbitrary set of rules they prescribe to.
Any person who has thoughts of how they're 'right' and this other person is 'wrong' because of differences they think they see needs to seek some professional help immediately, because they're on the same path as the sick individual that ended this person's life.

As of yet, this is NOT a hate crime. There is no proof given yet here he did this because the victim was transgender. If a black guy kills a white guy It doesn’t immediately mean he killed him because he was white. If a white guy kills a black guy it doesn’t immediately mean he did it because he was black. If someone robs a Jew it doesn’t automatically mean it was because he was a Jew. If someone kills an Amish guy it doesn’t mean it’s because he was Amish. You can't charge someone with a hate crime unless you can prove it. Such as this case, you have to prove he killed this trans woman because she was trans. From what I know about this guy, based on other news reports is that he has a criminal past that involves assualt. If anything, he should not have been released.

A lot of people get killed not just trans people, I don't understand why that context isn't provided or why no context is provided at all,it's just left to be heavily implied that it was purely because he/she/it was trans ,which you end the clip by saying has been ruled out by the police, so why heavily insinuate that it's a hate crime when that has been ruled out. So the male victim is described as a “trans woman” but the suspect is not called a “black man”? Why is the “identity” of one more important than the other? And 32 in a year puts them well below the national average for victims of homicide so most safe demographic in society - especially considering most killed were involved in criminal activities such as drug deals and prostitution.

Why do you want to know these details? Would it have made beating her to death more justified in your eyes. This kind of question reminds me of the gay panic defense were someone could get off of assult or murder charges because the victim was gay and they claimed they paniced when they found that out. Or like when people ask what a rape victim was wearing, it really feels like victim blaming or finding excuses to why the crime was OK.

Don't. I'm a Christian and my God and His Son taught me to love and be kind to everyone. In the Bible when it says men shouldn't wear women's clothes, at that time men and women wore robes. Women just covered their hair. That was the only difference in how they dressed. Humans assigned clothing to certain genders. Not God. Some people are born intersex. They have both genitalia. Their parents choose to raise them one gender, sometimes they feel it's not the correct gender, so they choose to live as another gender. Do you not think they are God's child too? We now know that there can be broken and missing chromosomes and even differences in the brain that causes transgenderism. They can't help that they were born with those issues. Some people have body dysphoria/dysmorphia where they are so uncomfortable in their own skin and body, they dress however makes them feel better. They are all God's children just like anyone else.
