I've got 3 older Mac Minis, 2010-2012 and 2014 and runing Linux Mint, ChromeFlex and FydeOS (a version of Chrome) FydeOS is clean and easy to use, and can also run Android apps, ChromeFlex is simple and Google ecosystem, so if you are familiar wiht Google Docs etc, its very easy (but no Android apps) and Linux Mint is also quick but a heavy OS and takes up a lot of disk space as it has soo many features, apps etc. Also getting used to command line is new, but fun. (I had to look up what "sudo" meant and why it was needed lol). All are much quicker booting than Mac Montery (the most current OS) and run faster, but small bugs like WiFi speeds and Fans blowing all the time take time to figure out the solution. For family who arent tech savy, I'd go with ChromeFlex on an older Mac laptop like a Macbook Air or Pro, as its the simplest to run and does everything a basic user needs, plus its always up to date with security. btw I'm posting this from my 2015 MacBook Pro 13, with dual boot OSX and Linux Mint, and I'm in the Linux partition, as it is quicker than OSX Monterey.
When you open the old style mac mini... if you do not want to ruin the case. use a metal spatula or even better a metal "osthyvel" (a device to slice cheese commonly used in the nordic countries), thus you leave no marks on the plastic. 08:35 That's not a 2011, they have a round disc cover that easily opens, most likely you have minis from 2005 through 2009. Try using a metal putty knife to safely open 2005-2009 Mac minis instead of a flat head screw driver which tends to damage the plastic or worse, destroy the tabs.
I’ve talked about that to a few people already, but essentially if I have to ship these out to you, depending on where you live, you’d pay more in shipping/customs fees than the thing is worth. They’re not that expensive.
the ONLY reason that the mac mini g4 was faster than most early x86 mac minis was that they did not have altivec and also the older macs had ATi graphics chips, to save cost (not to the consumer) they initially went with intel GMA, and whilst a g4 can play minecraft just fine the later models can not. And the intel gpu drivers of that era was notoriously bad, in fact so bad that intel opensouced it all under the GPL license (except for codecs and other specific licensed stuff) BeOS, Linux, BSD and MacOS benefited greatly from this. Intel did too. Today the intel gpu's like the 810 and the 740 is fully supported and still used by intel for servers.
