"When someone works with their hands, is a laborer. When someone works with their hands and mind, is a craftsman. But when someone works with their hands, mind, and heart…is an Artist"
You didn't just make it "like new", you made it BETTER than new, this is an astonishing level of care and attention to detail I'd never even considered for old tech restoration. Just, bravo
Your restorations are truly next level. That display panel swap is something else! I've never seen someone go that far to get such a factory-like result.
I really am happy that you not only remodel original pieces in true scale, but that you save and upload them for accurate historical recreation. Your jobs are artist, historian, and preservationist, as well as the frankly denigrating title of "Content Creator". Bravo
the font for the 730T logo is not Bebas Neue, but Helvetica Ultra Compressed, same as the ThinkPad logo. that's why it didn't look identical to the original. also the a/a button font looks like bold Helvetica, or Helvetica Black. apart from that, it looks really really good.
Hey thanks so much for the tip! The notes in the video weren't really referring to the font itself, more the fact that even if I had gotten the right font, there are normal distortions in the icons in some cases.
Yeah, that Helvetica and Swiss Ultra-Compressed look for the 0 is unmistakable (for a font nerd like me, who cares more about distinguishing those two than Helvetica and Arial lmao)
Absolutely masterful restoration. I love how thorough you were, with even going as far as to replace the ccfl on the new display and recreating the bracket just to accomodate for components. Suiper sick stuff. Great video definitely deserve more subs!
6:56 This is what I love about projects like this. Doesn't matter how insanely obscure and hyper-specific the project is, there's someone out there that's made something for it for anyone else who happened to need that one specific thing. Whether it be a tool, program, or 3d model. You name it, some random nerd out there made it.
This is the first video of yours I have seen. This is simply amazing. I would have never known that wasn't a well kept OEM device. Your skills are what most of us that watch can only dream of having. I can't imagine the time you put into creating these videos!!
There is something soothing about seeing your restoration videos just the sheer work requried for modeling all the parts instead of cutting up known parts absolutly loved it also the taking no shortcuts really shows your passion, love your work and videos also thanks for showing the cool retro tech
Really glad you enjoyed it and totally - I’m rarely one to physically modify something when I can fabricate something new. It’s all part of the love of the hobby for me.
All aspiring industrial designers should see this type of content, this is years worth of experience explained in simple language both easy of fun to watch. Lovely restoration! (Subscribed)
It's very rare i will stop watching something on a small screen and purposely watch it later on a big screen so i can properly enjoy it. Masterpiece. Make another video and i dare you to make it better.
This is perfect. I love your attention to details! And the fact you are showing us and explaining the whole process. Keep it up man I'm eager to see another restorations on your channel!
Wow I just watched all the video, and as a technician myself and a follower of many here on RUclips. But this is the first time I see this level of dedication and diligence in a project. You have my most respect. Congratulations 👍
Love seeing old treasures like this being faithfully restored rather than ending as landfill. Shows some time, patience and love can go a long way :). Awesome video.
Your work and attention to details is truly fantastic, I believe that you have honored the designers and engineers that have brought this product into existence, and knowing that you have breathed life into a dead and obsolete piece of tech is just mindblowing. Kudos to you sir! Also, if you might offer this service in the future, please hit me up, as I have several pieces of tech that need an expert hand such as yours.
This was a fantastic watch. Your attention to detail, your meticulous work, the high production value of your content and the relaxing, articulate narration made this an easy subscription. I’ll watch this again during the day for inspiration, and listen to it again at night to relax me off to sleep! Thank you.
Genuinely the best repair/restoration ive ever seen And I've modeled plastic casings before to help a robotics team, the amount of work youve put into that part alone is amazing
This is the first video of yours I’ve been recommended and I am glad it was recommended. You got a like at about 10 minutes and a sub 5 minutes later. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole video, your calm demeanour and the end result of the restoration was just incredible. Thank you.
Wow... RUclips brought me here by chance and I stayed to watch the whole video... I'm impressed by your skill and your dedication. Awedome restoration video!
What an outstanding restoration. Attention to detail to that is so great to see, there's something extra satisfying about being more fastidious than budget conscious when it comes to details like getting the labels just so. True of doing as well as watching. Thanks for such a great video.
Absolutely amazing video, as always. I've started watching since the ThinkPad 701C battery restoration you did, and the effort you go through every single time when restoring these machines are what most would never, ever think of doing. Bravo!
I guess someone must have told you so already, but thanks for going the extra mile and model the original parts, the fact that someone could benefit from these models and your methods down the road is on your thoughts is just awesome!
Unbelievable restoration and level of filming of the whole process, I'm so glad the ALMIGHTY ALGORITHM brought me here. Never subbed so fast on a new channel, immediately loved your style, presentation and skills. Great work!
Awesome repair! One tip--when you're using the CA accelerator, you usually only really need a couple drops. The spray tip that usually comes with those small bottles ends up wasting a lot over the long run. I've found that disposable fine-tipped pipettes work great to dose out small amounts :)
Hey, thanks and thanks so much for the tip! I’ll definitely switch to a small dropper with those fine tips. I’ve never had a scenario where I’ve needed to glue such a large area.
I'm impressed by the quality of your work. You deserve much more views and I will definitely follow your next projects. Editing is great and story telling is perfect. Thanks!
This is the most extraordinary restoration video that I have ever seen or viewed in my 50 plus years in the Computer Sciences and Electronics services. You should be doing this full-time. I subbed your channel as I am gong to watch your old and new videos. :D
Just found your channel today, and I’ve really enjoyed watching someone take on the kind of work many of us were doing 30 years ago at IBM. I was with IBM from 1994 to 1999 and repaired every system you’ve featured so far-it’s been a great walk down memory lane! If you haven’t already, I’d suggest taking on a ThinkPad 9552 if you get the chance. It was infamous in the repair facility for its complexity: the sheer number of screws (and types of screws), combined with its tricky assembly and troubleshooting of the multiple stacked board sections, made it one of the most challenging systems to work on.
Hey there, thanks so much for the kind words and glad it’s brought back some (hopefully) fond memories! I have been on the lookout for a 700C and would absolutely do a proper teardown guide if I do!
The best restoration I’ve seen in a long time. I was thrilled to find out that the screen restoration was only half of the video. Watched it all in one breath. Good luck with your future projects!
Awesome high-level work. The 730T is from 1994. I'm searching for a 700T for a long time, maybe I am lucky some day. Actually my oldest one is a 360PE.
Thanks so much! You might like my dedicated battery reverse engineering video where I had to do quite a bit more to make it work. These were super easy in comparison! ruclips.net/video/9PaTKBc88CI/видео.html
Another perfect restoration! I'am impressed of your skills, precision and perfection. It's a pleasure to look at your progress of work. Thx for uploading the print models.
New subscriber here. Holy heck, fantastic job on the restoration. Also, the production quality of this video is absolutely wonderful. It was a joy to watch. You have a great narration voice too. I see you getting a ton more subs soon if you keep this up.
Incredible end result and impressive skillset that spans across multiple interests and disciplines. Great channel and engaging backlog of projects too. Great work!
Subbed. I came into this video assuming that it would be more of a part swapping exercise with a donor machine, which most people do, even on really obscure hardware. Somehow they manage to get hold of more than 1 while the rest of the world didn't even know of its existence. The level of actual work and care that you put into your restoration sets you apart, and certainly deserves more love from the algorithm.
Found this on my feed, watched until the end, and the way I audibly GASPED when I saw that you only have 16k subs. The music choice, the video production, the way you give information, and how good you are at what you do, it all comes together perfect. Watched the video on one breath, despite the fact that my gen z brain is slowly, but surely, falling to the short videos over longer videos craze. Bravo, Matt, this was not a video, but an experience!! Commending your craftsmanship, the way you make your videos, definitely subscribing!! Greetings from Russia! ❤
I had Dauphin DT-1 pen based PC of the same vintage I bought on close-out (After the company went out of business) in 1995. I was smaller than this unit but had a lot of features in common including the Operating System. This video brought back memories of seeing the 730T in a magazine and wanting it so badly, but it was way too expensive! The DTR-1 was a definitely the cheaper, but not better alternative. This was a great video to watch! Your work is very impressive and shows great attention to detail. This is my first time here, so I subbed in to see more!
Thanks so much and really appreciate the sub! I’ve got a few other restorations you might enjoy but love hearing about the Dauphin. I didn’t have one myself but had a friend who did and was just blown away that tiny little tablet ran windows. You still have it?
Sadly no… I cannot remember exactly what happened to it… I know that it was bellow the system requirements to run Windows 95 which came out soon after I bought it. I do remember switching to a SHARP Wizard organizer with pen input. The Dauphin might have gotten sold at a garage sale or given to a friend… Really can’t remember! The ONLY RUclipsr I have seen do a video on it was Clint Basinger of on LGR. His house was wrecked by the recent hurricane so I don’t know if his unit survived, But check out his video, he really went all out on it!
Thanks a lot for the printable files, it’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for. These tablets were used at my work back in the 90’s and custom modified with a hard case, once it was all removed it was near new but to secure the case the covers were all missing
Really wonderful work here, congrats on the clearly very successful undertaking. I also have to say I love your attitude throughout this - clearly aware of your own privileged level of skill and access to equipment and resources, so that you at every step go the extra little bit further to make things more easily available to anyone who might want to undertake a similar project. Really excellent stuff.
Really appreciate that and glad it comes across. In my next videos I really want to focus more on the multiple ways of taking on a project given time, budget, access to tools, etc.
nice job! i have a broken one of these that ive had for years, one day ill get to it and upgrade to color, upgrade the processor/memory/storage! so i eagerly await your next move with it. im thinking it should be a touchscreen mac os9 hackentosh!
Damn that was fine work! Love what you have done to revive this piece of technology older than me. Knowing you have used NiMH batteries I'd prefer to see not welded battery pack though, stil i understand why reliability would mean more to you than ease of future replacement.. Overall great job! cannot wait for another episode.
Thanks so much! Totally agree - I found some battery holders that I was going to try to use but I just couldn't make the dimensions work. Its pretty unreal how they pack stuff in.
"When someone works with their hands, is a laborer. When someone works with their hands and mind, is a craftsman. But when someone works with their hands, mind, and heart…is an Artist"
Love this. 🙏
That's fantastic. I want that on my gravestone.
Amazing comment and a perfect fit.
when somone works with all their heart, it's passion.
❤
The gold standard for what a restoration video should be
Really appreciate it!
I think engineering new parts is the best, because we'll have to do that more and more as time goes on.
💯 agree
You didn't just make it "like new", you made it BETTER than new, this is an astonishing level of care and attention to detail I'd never even considered for old tech restoration. Just, bravo
Your restorations are truly next level. That display panel swap is something else! I've never seen someone go that far to get such a factory-like result.
Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoyed it and that LCD swap was a first for me. Now I’ve got another trick up my sleeve :)
@@polymatt yeah that was next level, very impressive stuff
I really am happy that you not only remodel original pieces in true scale, but that you save and upload them for accurate historical recreation.
Your jobs are artist, historian, and preservationist, as well as the frankly denigrating title of "Content Creator". Bravo
That’s very much appreciated. Hope it comes across that I genuinely enjoy this stuff.
@polymatt It is plain to see, I promise ^_^

You're the Bob Ross of tech restoration. The knowledge you deliver, the care you take, and the gentle vibe you and your editing style are all superb.
6:56 This is what I love about projects like this. Thanks so much! It’s definitely something I love doing so stay tuned (is that a phrase people use anymore?)
I just found you at random - but holy smoke, man. This is beyond professional. You are a true restoration God!
Thank you!
Now that's a restoration video anyone who's into ANY restoration project MUST SEE! Excellent, excellent video. The attention to detail is superb!
🙏
The range of your knowledge is beyond impressive. Great video!
This video here, this is my zen garden. This is my spa day. I love it.
This is the highest of compliments. Thank you!
The gargantuan amount of effort in this absolute fire. Great job. Glad I was able to be blessed to watch this.
Wow I just watched all the video, and as a technician myself and a follower of many here on RUclips.
But this is the first time I see this level of dedication and diligence in a project.
You have my most respect.
Congratulations 👍
Thank you very much!
i like the true craftmenship done on this vintage tablet, brick by brick
I am so glad I found this channel, as someone who fixes (although not restores) old tech, this stuff is right up my alley
Glad you found the channel! Thanks so much and hope you enjoy.
Damn, matt has the skills that we all dream up. He's keeping the standard of restoration videos high. Keep up the great work!
Love seeing old treasures like this being faithfully restored rather than ending as landfill. Shows some time, patience and love can go a long way :). Awesome video.
Damn, I really need to go to storage and get my two units and repair them :| This restoration is incredible!! Well done!
this is one of the most amazing, detailed, and meticulous restorations I have ever seen
Bro you literally setup a bench mark for restoration. well done. kudos
That's just fantastic. Another stellar precision work, and I don't see this tablet get talked about much anymore.
Most impressive vintage tech restoration I've seen, loved the variety of techniques. Went from the worst 730T imaginable to the best.
"Epic Restoration" You weren't kidding! Amazing work!
Thanks so much!
Literally everyone is saying this, but MASTERFUL restoration. This looks amazing.
I appreciate that! And I'd love to be able to have the time to just work on these things. Maybe when I retire? Or have 20x the subscribers? :)
This is a work of art!
This was a fantastic watch. Your attention to detail, your meticulous work, the high production value of your content and the relaxing, articulate narration made this an easy subscription. I’ll watch this again during the day for inspiration, and listen to it again at night to relax me off to sleep! Thank you.
Enjoyed every second of it. Well done!

Thanks so much! It’s definitely about the process for me. I love getting down into the details.
Your channel is my favourite actual full-restoration channel. You're probably the best in the world at this!
Can't wait to see your next project
Wow, thank you!
Absolutely amazing video, as always. I've started watching since the ThinkPad 701C battery restoration you did, and the effort you go through every single time when restoring these machines are what most would never, ever think of doing. Bravo!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate the continued support.
This is fantastic! As a ThinkPad collector I'm really loving to watch this - forwarded it to some nice people
Thank you!
Incredible work. Highest effort tech restoration I've ever seen.
im so impressed with your restoration, your channels a gem. the algorithm has blessed me
I have never seen such a meticulous level of vintage PC restoration. Thank you.
I guess someone must have told you so already, but thanks for going the extra mile and model the original parts, the fact that someone could benefit from these models and your methods down the road is on your thoughts is just awesome!

You never fail to impress. Your skills are outstanding, and the level of detail is insane!
I really appreciate it!
The skill, and confidence in the work.
So damn satisfying; thanks for sharing.
Wow, an absolute wizard!
Wow. Great work. I have some hardware that would need that treatment, too - but i‘m a bit scared of spotwelding batteries …
This is incredible work. Meticulously creating these models for others is also an awesome service to the community. Thanks for your content.
Awesome repair! One tip--when you're using the CA accelerator, you usually only really need a couple drops. The spray tip that usually comes with those small bottles ends up wasting a lot over the long run. I've found that disposable fine-tipped pipettes work great to dose out small amounts :)

This video is unbelievable. Dude is a jack of all trades, he can do it all! Congratulations, this restoration is on a level of its own.
I'm impressed by the quality of your work. You deserve much more views and I will definitely follow your next projects. Editing is great and story telling is perfect. Thanks!
I am speechless. This level or restoration is beyond anything I´ve ever seen. Fantastic work!
Thank you very much!
Wow, what a masterpiece restoration. Red indicator LEDs would make it even more awesome 😊
Thank you and maybe just ONE red led ;)
Just wow! Incredibly impressive work 🎉
Thank you very much!

I couldn’t believe it when I saw it out on a table at that trade show. Keep your eyes open!
I love the subtle details you just pulled off with patience.
Loving your videos ❤
Incredible transformation
Spectacular job! I have no need for any of the model files you've so painstakingly recreated, but I'm glad you've put the effort in.
This is amazing. Ive never seen someone 3d print and solder their own battery for a retro restoration. Thats next level! Awesome work overall

Thank you so much!!
Another perfect restoration! I'am impressed of your skills, precision and perfection. It's a pleasure to look at your progress of work. Thx for uploading the print models.
Thanks so much! I try to get a little better every time :)
absolutely incredible as always!! your videos are an instant click for me. So satisfying and drive me to create and restore things better!!
Your mastery of the subject is impressive. Thanks for sharing this great job !

Incredible end result and impressive skillset that spans across multiple interests and disciplines. Great channel and engaging backlog of projects too. Great work!
Hey, thanks so much! And love the channel and the name. I’ll have to watch for some tips!
Subbed. I came into this video assuming that it would be more of a part swapping exercise with a donor machine, which most people do, even on really obscure hardware. dude, this is honestly the most detailed restoration I have aver seen, you've earend yourself a new sub!
Really appreciate it, thanks so much!
Thank you so much and really glad you enjoyed it! Only been at this for a relatively short amount of time so all the comments and subs really help.
Absolutely amazing work as always!
Thanks again man!
Bro! I love your attention to detail, very enjoyable to watch you work, you are a true craftsman.
Just... wow. I'm in awe. Superb restoration!
Not even 15k subs, and such a superb video. I'm hoping your channel will keep growing along with your skills, this was a really great watch!
I hope so! Thanks so much for the support.
The result is incredible!
I'm beyond speechless
Great work!

Oh boy, another insane resto. This is like next level ASMR for retro geeks. Like me! The new crisp transfer application was so satisfying.
Thanks, man! And it is just as satisfying IRL. I try to make the videos show how fun and rewarding the process is for me while I'm actually doing it!
