  • Roy sings 'Oh, Pretty Woman', 'In Dreams', 'Twinkletoes' and 'It's Over'. The show was filmed in colour as a test, as neither ITV or BBC were broadcasting in colour at the time. The clip includes the finale with all the evening's performers, including The Seekers, on the circular stage.

    I have just come across this comment site and felt I had to make one. I was introduced by a girl , later to become my wife, to the music of Roy Orbison in 1962 . I am now 77 and still listen to him . We were together 55 years and had his music on most of that time. She passed away 4 years ago and I am now just able to listen to Roy again . Some songs bring the tears but also the happy memories. My wish is that when I join her we can listen to Roy together. Love to all Roy Orbison fans .

    Thanks for posting this. I had the privilege of seeing Roy perform live about three months before he passed. He didn't look too healthy when he walked out on the stage, but oh my gosh, when he opened his mouth, the voice was just as powerful and clear as ever. Best rock 'n' roll tenor ever. He's missed.

He was most influential.. Roy Being part of the Travelling Wilburys.. what a great combination of talent. Again, a testament to Roy's talent and contribution. He is certainly missed. Too bad about your friends. Hopefully, they will value you for your musical taste and intellect. Cheers!

    • @chipsterb4946
      @chipsterb4946 Год назад +3

      Roy’s vibrato was unique, no doubt. If you listen, the vibrato starts instantly with the note. Normally singers start the note then work into vibrato. Also, his singing is so precise both in pitch and the vibrato being identical every time.

      Even as a young boy, Roy wanted to sing because he and his parents liked hearing his singing voice. He sang with bands on tours and in studios. "Oh Pretty Woman" became Roy's biggest hit and is one of the most recognizable and beloved rock songs of all time in music history. At 28, he was the most famous entertainer in the world. Currently studying his incomparable melodic and powerful tenor voice "In Dreams".

      Hello. I lived in Jal, NM in 1954, I think it was, where they had Saturday night music at the auditorium where Roy and the Wink Westerners would play. I was in the 9th grade then and it was very clear Roy was something special while still a high school boy from Wink Texas. It was quite a deal for a pass the hat show. We later lived in Wink after he had made it, and wold be in town some of the time. You could see Roy and some friends hanging out at the local pool hall on occasion. This was around 1958 or 59.
      Last I saw him he played a show in Alma Arkansas at "Tony Alamo's' place in 1976 I believe.

    I used to watch "Sunday Night At The Palladium Show" with my parents back in the 1960s,

      Anyone else catch him playing the opening riff for Pretty Woman?
      I would have thought Roy would have just played rhythm and left that for the behind the scenes player.
      Nope, he is out here playing licks and singing pitch perfect, playing along with a band that likely is not his and making it sound just as good or better than the album.
      One of the greats, once you factor in his song writing there will never be another talent like Roy.

    The Greatest Vocalist of all time. IRREPLACEABLE & EXCEPTIONAL.
    As a vocalist my self i aspire to work as hard as this man and be the best as i can possibly be.
    Thank you god for blessing him with such a talent and a beautiful voice.

      i think you need to research more musicians before you label someone as "the greatest of all time".

    • @jonathandavidgreen4135
      @jonathandavidgreen4135 10 лет назад +4

      not really Brandon.
      It's a personal preference. Elvis, Dylan, Harrison, Petty & Springsteen said the exact same thing. He had a voice which was so unique, that there is not another singer on this planet, who can sing like him.
      As i said, it's my opinion and nobody has the right stand in the way of my views.
      Thank you for the comment though.

      If you had prefaced your original comment with *In my opinion* fine. However, the comment as posted posits your opinion as a fact. You are indeed perfectly entitled to your opinion. Others are perfectly entitled to differ. Having said that you did not state he was the greatest musician of all time. As for vocalist .. for purity of voice I love Nana, for visceral power Tom Waits/Leonard Cohen top my list. Roy is fantastic. Is he the best vocalist of all time? That depends entirely on personal tastes.

      well, by speaking it out of his mouth it is his opinion really

    • @glowros
      @glowros 9 лет назад

      George Eyebrowson my apologies for not being clear. When you make a declarative statement with no caveat the assumption is that you are positing a fact, not an opinion. Obviously not everything that one speaks is an opinion, although most judgements (such as greatest of all time) are indeed opinions. In my opinion Brandon's response was to the presentation of an opinion as a fact by dint of this linguistic convention.

    On stage, playing the most beautiful Gibson guitar I've ever seen, the look on these wayfarer glasses, dressing in black and singing with the most soulful voice ever... And on top of that he was the only artist who had the privilege to open for both Elvis and The Beatles.
    I think I have to buy a new cool-o-meter because mine just exploded.

      Youtubax wrong ... look it up, the Beatles opened for Roy..

    • @1Filmbrock
      @1Filmbrock 9 лет назад +5

      Youtubax It was a custom guitar with actually a Gretsch body, a Gibson neck, and 8-pole sho-bud steel guitar pick-ups. It was sent to Japan in the 60's to be copied for some reason and disappeared. Perhaps it still lives on secretly in some Japanese collection.

      True. He was a beautiful guy. The Beatles actually opened the show for him originally. They were just exploding in the Uk but had been booked previously. Roy graciously recognised their greater pull at the time.

      DG Brock you are correct. They never shared the same stage. Johnny Cash first introduced them after an Elvis concert in 1956 in Texas. They met again backstage after an Elvis concert in Vegas in 1976 where Roy was introduced to the audience “as one of the finest singers of all time”.

      @@cyrusbudatfletchergateart3569 Actually, the Beatles opened for Roy, who was a big star in the early 60s before the Beatles got big in 1964.

    Mi reconocimiento a Roy Orbison, genio casi desconocido para la gente común de tantos lugares remotos, que hemos escuchado sus canciones y su voz, esa voz que nos dejó huellas en el corazón por generaciones. Cuando pequeños veíamos bailar a nuestras tías y luego volver a descubrir su voz inconfundible, detrás de películas o con bandas contemporáneas 80-90. Qué maravilla escucharlo, creatividad atemporal, mi homenaje a quien se adelantó incluso a Elvis, a quien pensó, escribió, dio ritmo y armonía a canciones sin tiempo, 70 años atrás.

    I watched a show last night from 1975 and now I've come across this. It is amazing how he doesn't miss a beat or a note. It all sounds just like it did when you first heard it or from a record. The man was amazing and even Elvis commented that Roy was the true King.
