I’ve been at this game for 12 year now and it’s extremely tuff most of the time I started at the bottom cleaning and when your blasting and spraying huge ships, small awkward tanks, cranes, and everything else in between and all in demanding time frames and horrible conditions it’s not for everyone but is very rewarding when u battle to the end of a job. I’ve met some fantastic people over the years and no mater how long you’ve been at it every day is a school day. I was lucky to be teamed up with some of the best on the business. Good luck to anyone who gives it a go.

It's a great job, with the right company. Alot of people don't know about this trade. There are alot of skills that go along with it, that you just wouldn't think someone with the job title " painter", would have. My self, I constantly have to operate fork lifts, front end loader with forks or bucket, 30 ton overhead cranes, shunt trucks telehandlers, and lifts. The list goes on. My primary gig, is the sand blasting end of things. which I enjoy. Time flies when blasting. Faster then vacation time lol. Most stuff.
Point of this comment is, it's a good job, pays well, eventually, and it can take you places. Literally, if your willing to travel and do this, you'll see cool places, you would other wise never go, and make really good money. If you live in a place with an industrial park, look for industrial coating application companies in your area. If there is 1 there is usually more around. Try it out, you might just like it.

Hi mate, do you have any advice on getting into the trade with no experience ? I'm trying to get out of the accident repair side of painting and moving to the more Industrial side, however all jobs need atleast a minimum of 1 year experience, any advice welcome, thank you

@@johndiddly1597 if you have spray experience I'm sure someone would look at you. It's like anything else, if there's alot of work where you live you should be able to get on somewhere. Like if there is a refinery in your area or a few mills. Are there many industrial coating companies where you are? I started non union and the company I worked for put me in. The company I work for now, has us few token union men and only hire non union guys for the shop now. Non union is ok but they don't get paid as well and often have no pension. How old are ya an where do you live?

@@Matty6983 yeah I have some spray experience, i finished my 4 year apprenticeship in accident repair at the beginning of the year n have my Level 3 nvq for painting cars just gutted its useless in industrial, im from near Manchester area (uk) there's not a ton of industrial companies but theres a few and im 21 so while I'm young im trying to get into a new aspect of spraying, I think the biggest thing in the future will be the wind industry with the whole green energy booming. I may pay for a few courses as there's an industrial training centre less than 20 miles from me, thanks for the advice

and there is me been trying for 5 months in my states trying to find industrial painter college/unions/training institution/apprecitenship and NOTHING searched through the web constantly called 100 of numbers even went in person and nothing, i legit had to look from other states out of mine and still no luck i am thinking to get training to a foreign college in Europe or South America wish for some reason they have the program i need and the training for it, such a shame USA cant provide something so basic, i am debating on what foreign institution i will go but most likely Mexico, even though is more like workshops in there but whatever experience i can get i will be ok with it.
