      There's too many plot holes with this mechanic for it to work in anything consistent like a video game.
      Also the fact that this mechanic requires everything already be determined means that the video game would be entirely scripted and the player's inputs unable to change anything anyway.

      There's a similar mechanism in The Talos Principle (having to do some actions and then later cooperate with your past self and the past objects it interacted with). The whole mechanism is already very mind twisty (so if I go there and do this, then that object will be available to my future self and he can use it to open this door but that means I need to get back to this point to hold this open so that my future self can now go back to the start area). But at least both you and your past self move forward in time, it's just that NOW became a mix of the NOW of the past self and future self (and related objects). Adding actual inversion wouldn't work since "what happened, happened", including effect before cause, and the game can't predict that until the cause!

      - Firstly the bootstrap paradox, the inverted bullets do not have a temporal origin at all, the movie doesn’t even try to explain that, what would’ve been the most interesting part.
      - The guy moving backwards in time being trapped in a wall… temporarily he would’ve continued to move backwards in time, meaning he would’ve always been in that wall, was he born in that wall?
      - The protagonist learns about Tenet and the future from Neil, who was recruited by the protagonist himself in the future
      - The movie's explanation of entropy inversion is scientifically speculative
      And I could go on and on and on and will do so if you want to. It’s just so shocking to me that u want to look smart, u wouldn’t even have required an understanding in physics to spot these logical fallacies, but no, u just wanted to talk big and now you look like a fool.

    What makes it difficult is understanding the two timelines both on the same linear thread. And that both TP's, Neil's and Sator's are cognitively aware of their inversion, so they are not just fleshes moving in reverse. Sator going through the gate together shows the switch, and inverted Sator now knowing his past, to help him get the piece, because of the interrogation. He then flees to Vietnam, remaining in inverted state. They are necessarily going "back in time", if anything they are presently, "walking through their past" to gain advantages of events that already occurred. Why there are 3 Neils in the final battle, 3 TPS and 3 Neils in the airport and 3 Sator's in the Highway scene. One is the past, one is the future performing the advantage and the last one is the present that achieves the goal. Why you need Blue Team to explain the battle, red team to perform and Neil to switch and perform the extract, but he switched one more time to save the mission knowing he had too. Thus his sacrifice for TP so he can create Tenet after all this.

    • @El-Duderino-His-Dudeness
      @El-Duderino-His-Dudeness 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@TuriGamerThis is where I get hung up though. If he's only moving backwards, then why does Sator disappear in that scene? If he's only moving backwards physically, should we see an inverted version of him exit? But then wouldn't he be playing out the interrogation in forward motion sense it happened in reverse? Explanations like this video focus on this concept of how you can only see the now. This sort of helped explain to me why you can't see him on the other side. Because since he's outside of the "now" then he's gone. This I think helped me a little. Like the reason why inverted Sator is visible, is because we're seeing it from a forward moving perspective, which can only view inverted people going in reverse. But the video I think makes it confusing because it shows like a transparent version of the Protagonist (standing in for Sator in that scene) reverse walking and then coming out the other side going back beyond present Neil. That's what conflicts with me on the explanation.

      I had thought the same thing about sight/light - also if everything's inverted wouldn't gravity repel you upwards? This film also made me realise when you're going through life normally, you're never bang in the moment, always looking at the light coming from something which will take a certain amount of time however small.

    So the key is understanding why Sator "has disappeared". If you understand this, then you understand how the Turnstile machine works.

    • @WelbyCoffeeSpill
      @WelbyCoffeeSpill  2 года назад +7

      Yes. and I don't think it is difficult once you get it.
      People have witnessed this countless times in other time travel movies in fact and understand it.
      Whenever someone time travels in other movies they 'disappear' and pop up in the past or future. But nobody questions that because they are used to it. They are expecting the "teleporting' aspect to be a part of it.
      In Tenet, it throws people off because subjects don't instantly pop to years prior or after.
      In Tenet, you don't leap through time, you just pull a U-turn in time.

    Time travel stories tend to split into two categories:
    - "One timeline" stories (Tenet is an example of one), where going into the past overwrites the future, with slim chances of recovery.
    - "Multiple timelines" stories, where going into the past creates a new timeline, leaving the original intact.
    What if Tenet was a "multiple timeline" story?
    Every decision done by an individual splits the timeline into multiple, into the future, but every decision done by an inverted individual is rendered and multiple timelines connecting into one, preserving causality.
    Let's say TP enters the turnstile in this version of the story. Now, there's no need for the other TP to exist in this timeline, since the act of inversion splits the timeline into two. One "before" inversion and one "after" inversion.

    • @WelbyCoffeeSpill
      @WelbyCoffeeSpill  3 года назад +8

      I am a huge fan of the One timeline approach, but For all we know there are a bajillion timelines constantly being spawned based on decisions. :)
      In Tenet we never see a situation one way, then another.
      Neil basically says "There is no way of knowing. If you are there to make a change you are not here to observe its effect".
      So our perspective in the movie is following around Protagonist, but there is no way to know if Sator lived in another, or Neil didn't die in one.
      We are stuck observing the one where it happened just as we saw it in the movie.

      One timeline, especially traveling in reverse, still doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Suppose you invert into a small room where two people have been mindlessly walking in a circle, one behind the other, for the entire day. You shoot one of them dead. The guy still walking keeps walking in reverse until he trips over the dead guys body. What would you observe if you kept traveling back in time in reverse? The guy you didn't shoot is supposed be walking in the circle for the day but now he's trapped in the floor in a loop, acting out his life until he reaches yesterday and so on. How could he even be alive if he never left the room yesterday, or the day before that ect. to eat and survive ? And the guy you shot...He is also trapped in a loop and his dead body "was always there" right? So in reverse his corpse will never decompose, his blood will never evaporate. How would that affect the environment from micro to macro scale in reverse? What about all the people, surroundings, incidences that these two people chain affected in their lives? It seems like butterfly effect would occur in reverse. That is until you travel back far enough and you see that both of these men could not have been born in a hospital. The whole past would glitch out because important events did not occur. So the future never happened either if we are still using One timeline. Tbh, I think if it were One timeline, the simple act of inverting into the past and disturbing particles of space in reverse would trigger butterfly effect and the whole universe would end😂

    • @geoffnaylor3734
      @geoffnaylor3734 2 года назад +1

      @@imwahyou2 The proving room sort of creates a "forced" consistency. Nobody is using turnstyles to do something that would create a paradox, and if they did, their actions couldn't have happened. Notice that before you invert, you check the window to see an inverted you walking in at the same time.
      I imagine, if you are walking to a turnstyle as someone who is going to do an action that will actually change things, you'll notice no inverted copy of yourself walking backwards into the other side. That means there is no inverted copy to "become" by using the turnstyle. So basically the turnstyle won't even work.

    I think what made it click for me was that even if you KNOW when they go through the portal that they are going into the past by going in reverse, we still look at it from the Protagonists point of view, and this kind of tricks the brain to instead look at it as a parallel time lines rather then the same going in reverse. So that is why people disappear suddenly from the point of view from people not going through since they have past the past already.
    So if the protagonist now go back in time and then goes through the portal again, back to non-reverse state, and goes somewhere else and wait there until the time he went through the portal the first time, for the people who stayed behind it will look like he suddenly teleported to that new location the moment the protagonist went trough he portal the first time. Try to imagine each persons point of view first, then you might see the bigger picture of it.
    This is a great movie, especially when you start to grasp the concept, but for me i grasped it to late which made me enjoy the movie somewhat while watching it, but a lot more when I finally got it, long after the credits roll. And that is a flaw of this movie, it's a to much of a mind boggling concept so it would need even more explanation than what it gives. I think if they would instead demonstrated this with people first, and from different peoples points of view, instead of objects, like the bullet, I think we could have understood it better. I realize that seeing the reverse bullet and other things gives it a really cool mystery at first, but I would rather understand the movie better while watching it rather than just see mysterious things. Sure, I might be too stupid to not get it quick enough, but if I can reach this conclusion after the movie by other means it could have been done in the movie already. Of course, this is very subjective, but it feels like many people are struggling with this movie.

Nolan plays with our apprehension of our reality this way. The real mindfuck is the entropy. Cause and effect are concepts we experience our whole life. What about effect and then cause?
