Nearly 60 years to the day after the first ascent up Mount Everest, Russian extreme sport star Valery Rozov (48) flew off the north face of Mount Everest - the world's highest BASE jump ever - 7220 meters (23,688ft) above sea level.
The ascent began on the Chinese side on the famous north route. It took him four days to climb from the base camp to the jumping location. At precisely 2:30 p.m. local time he leaped despite adverse weather conditions with temperatures -18 Celsius.
Because the cliff at the top was not very high, the initial moments of the leap in the rarified high altitude air were the most critical phase. Rozov needed more time than usual in the thin air to transition from freefall to flying. After that he flew for nearly a full minute at speeds of about 200 km/h (125 mph) along the north face before he landed safely on the Rongbuk glacier - at an altitude of 5,950 meters.

REDBULL STOP TEASING US!!! If the video is under 7 minutes i don't give a crap about what he has to say or where he's walking! You sent an
Entire camera crew to the TOP of Everest for 7 clips that lasted a total of twenty seconds???..... Stop hoarding your footage, stop interviewing the athletes, and for Christ sake get someone who participates in these sports to edit the footage! I want to see what he did! Not stock footage of the landscape! If you wanna do more artsy behind the scenes videos then PLEASE make them longer so theres actually time for the footage people wanna see!
Its far from the top of everest
this was a lot less dramatic then I thought it would be...
This video is a poor representation of something so great the video is 1 minute and 12 seconds long and has 9 seconds of actual flight footage come on Red Bull!
The others had to walk all the way down again? :[
Can't imagine the toll on the human body when you combine that kind of adrenaline rush with that kind of exhaustion. I was hoping to see a much longer flight . . . but this was still pretty cool.
Guys, this is a magnificent achievement. Many do not know how cold it is and how little oxygen has on Mount Everest .For some who watch the video it's the easiest thing. But only you know what you all have to give up in life to achieve this. Go ahead my congratulations.
May he Rest in Peace. One of his jumps went wrong a few days ago. Tragic.
Wow, so dangerous.
RedBull should be sponsoring funerals.
u deserve sooo much moree views and subs!
that was not nearly as epic as it should have been
Agreed
This video could have and should have been much longer.
Indians don't need via to travel to Nepal or work there. Actually India is formed by more than 40 former countries like Nepal. Nepal chose to stay single while India was formed around 1947. Before that all the states were actually independent nations ruled by different rulers and has different languages and cultures.
Mt Everest is along the border of Nepal and China/Tibet, and if you read the information it says the jump was from 7220 m, he didnt jump off the summit.
This is definitely. The comment I was responding to was asking whether Felix Baumgartner had the highest BASE jump.
This is most definitely a BASE jump.
Sometimes i forget that Red Bull is an energy drink lol
I think not. Wikipedia says: "BASE" is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antennas, spans (bridges), and earth (cliff).
The balloon doesn't go in any of these categories, so technically what Baumgartner did was not a Basejump :)
best channel on youtube.
FULL FLIGHT PLEASE!!
for every video Red Bull makes 100's get diabetes from their suger drinks
I liked the whole POV shot of the jump, and how more of the video revolved around the jump than just climbing up (not that it's a small feat).... I don't like the editing of this video, I don't think 1:13 of footage is enough to really express the sensation or awesomeness of what just happened... especially knowing there was probably some really good footage on the cutting room floor
You're partially right. The Everest is not the most difficult to climb in the technical difficulty aspect. The K2 is more technical difficult. But because the Everest is the highest in real altitude from above sea level, it is the most difficult in the physical aspect because the oxygen is the most rare at this high altitude. Climbers suffers more from high altitude desease than any other mountain when climbing the Everest.
Red Bull please make longer Documentary style videos kinda like what Nat Geo does. Red Bull is an amazing company that's always releasing amazing content, but its too short and maybe some longer more in depth content might be what the fans want.
Валерий Розов, лучший на планете base jumper-альпинист.
Знай наших!
1:13 second for a world record?... come one! give us more
funny, i recall that it is ridiculously freezing up there and you need oxygen tanks at the top cuz of the altitude. Although im pretty sure it wasnt from Everest, still a nice jump!
He didn't jump off of the summit...you guys do understand that, right?
Not taking anything away from it. Still absolutely nuts! Just providing some clarity.
Considering how many people have lost their life either ascending or descending from this famed mountain, I consider this stunt a mockery to their memory.
Alexandra David-Néel, who lived over 14 years in that region said that the native name for the mountain is Latchi Khang. Get your facts right.
Mt. Everest is our pride. And we are proud of being Nepalese........
B.A.S.E. jumping is represented by an acronym: buildings, antennas, spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs). Space has none of these, so technically the balloons that NASA used for their experiments don't qualify as B.A.S.E. jumping.
One of the tests that B.A.S.E. jumpers put themselves through is getting to their jump point. This requires fitness, planning, endurance, and sometimes a little luck and stealth, in order to reach their intended platform. From their they take their leap.
oxygen isnt the issue, its the consistency of the air. If its too thin then you cant get lift, and im going to assume that know why that's an issue.
It has to due with the altitude difference creating a quicker change in pressure on the camera.
krass. was muss das für ein Gefühl sein, wenn man unten wieder ankommt!
This is where you are wrong. Felix did not leave the Earth's atmosphere. He was just high enough to where the atmosphere was very thin(wider gap between atmospheric molecules). He did not experiences any temperatures capable of burning a camera.
because the trek to where they jumped is the hardes part, with all the gear, and managing not to get frost bitten it is an incredible feat. but i do agree it was a little bit anti climactic
Its the place where I belong. My country,my pride.
So I guess it does go to show that Red Bull "gives you wings!" :-D
Actually, according to the numbers in the description, it was 14.4% of Everest.
"NEW REDBULL" now gives you ultra wings to jump off from MT.EVEREST..
Hey, Felix did have a Gopro - look it up on youtube - you can see his helmet cam.
I'll be watching when someone base jumps off the summit. JK.
Misleading title, he didn't actually jump off Everest but a mountain next to it called Changste. Don't get me wrong, it's impressive and all, but no one has jumped off Everest yet.
Love it ! Long Climb but fastest Descend !
Mount Everest lies in Nepal. Please mention this in the description as well.
you need to show more of the video! in the description you say he flew for over a minute, you should show atleast the full flight time! anyways, awesome video.
Valery is a great Base Jumper who many have a lot of respect for. But sadly he did not jump from Mount Everest, he jumped from a close by mountain called Mount Changste (though this is linked to Everest). You see in the video and in pictures the North face of Everest, maybe the video is so short as more footage would make it even more obvious? None the less, an epic jump by a very skilled man and full credit... just a shame it is not what it is advertised as.
Chimborazo = Farthest point from the centre of the earth due to equatorial bulge.
Mauna Ki = Tallest summit from its base to the peak but starts underneath the ocean.
Everest = Top of the world because of its altitude from the sea level.
The mountains you are trying to highlight are not as relevant as Everest because the peak of both those mountains are not called Death Zones with 1/3 oxygen and snow storms at -40 C, not to forget deadly ice-falls and crevasses.
I'm not too sure on this, seeing as at the point he jumps from he free falls for a little bit so any higher you wouldn't need lift as you could just drop down, although this point may be good cause when he jumps he wont hit any rocks
the flight took in the end a bit more than a min. but He means the length of the vid where they are showing the flight
Red Bull:
The coolest company on Earth.
Actually there were several GoPros on Felix for the space jump
is there a POV cam version of the whole flight?
*yawn* Next time try jumping off the moon.
I was expecting a jump off the top of Everest. Still insane.
Did half the cameras stop working at the top? Where's the forward view!
it's really impressive don't get me wrong but i was expecting him to fly further down the mountain than that, or lower to the ground
This would have little to no effect on the camera. Space shuttle Atlantis had quite a few exterior cameras. They were shielded but were still cameras in general, and the space shuttle is going upwards faster than Felix was going downwards. You're statement is false. Sorry...
so this is higher than the base jump from space?
Everyone who climbs that mountain should have a parachute
Whoever edited this video deserves to get fired
That's because he didn't actually jump from Everest; he jumped from the mountain next to it called changste. Still a great feat, but I think people should be honest about what they do. Redbull is claiming Mt. Everest because it draws more publicity. Remember, Redbull is in the business for marketing, not honesty.
It's weird to think that this base jump was higher than the average skydive.
So red bull really does give you wings.
woooooow 3 secs of flight! thats really the highest! -.-
They just released a full story clip. But still 11s of flight and no front view ...
Red Bull gives you "short" wings :)
what height was the jump from -that was definitely not the very top
great job sir
That should be worth a 10 min video!
red bull gives you squirrel wings.
Now it's time to do it from space. Who's up?
Truly amazing
I love how you're trying to criticize this video, when you haven't accomplished nothing as great as this.
Damn I was hoping his little platform counted...well good on this guy.
With the speed that guy was falling, the GoPro probably would have flew off. But that would have been an awesome view.
he would have then ploughed in to the side of the mountain. this is one of the highest points with a sheer cliff below.
No record left unbroken
The title made it sound like they jumped off the summit, from everest's perspective, that was a foothill
K2 is considered a far more difficult and technical than Everest. What kills you is the cold....
Fun statistic: Fewer people have died jumping off of Mt. Everest than climbing down on foot.
Who can we contact to obtain permission to use this video? Thank you.
Bro that wasn't even the top, that's weak!! Lol
Must be a Jarno edit with all the lighting effects! lol
you'd think that if this was produced and sponsored by Red Bull, and how big of an event this is, that the video would be longer then 1:13.
Red Bull, you have the power to amaze me every fucking time...
He was not at the summit, but its still cool.
From this height I was hoping he's gonna fly all the way down to India :/ Still a nice jump though :)
I feel bad for the dude who had to carry that guys backpack back down the mountain.
I jumped higher off our shed with me coat over me head.
Wow man
RIGHT ON!
i wouldve done it without the parachute, look at that soft snow!
the thin air must have made a difference with the aerodynamics of the suit?
I WISH I COULD DO THAT TOO, RIGHT FROM THE SAME SPOT AS VALERY ROZOV.
But will it blend?
Yeah well I jumped off my bed this morning. So there's that
Did we even see the base jump? Haha im pretty sure we watched all the cinematics just for the take off and landing
Lol that's the way to hurry up and not catch hypothermia haha
Did he reach the summit first? Or did he just get that far up then jump.
I feel like Redbull doesn't want to advertise for Gopro too much and thats why they only ever show very short clips when the shots come from there cameras. Very disappointing indeed.
