    great video. i'd love to see more of these, however long they are. even and especially as i don't know anything about most of the topics you're studying, it's really fun and fascinating to hear about concepts and fields of thought that are totally new to me

    Right on! As usual, you've added to my list of things to get in to :)
    This year I read a few books, but all of them a few times. Since the start of the year I've been reading and rereading and rereading Infinite Jest, which at times almost feels like street photography novelised, also volumes 2 and 3 of Capital.... Because you can't get too much Capital!

    I don't have in depth knowledge about theatre and the theories surrounding it but it sounds super interesting! I think I'm going to read into metaphor theory.

    That Nancy book sounds very interesting! And it was interesting to hear about goffman in your field, cause in mine we usually talk about his framing analysis work

    Finished! Thanks so much. I rlly like those kinds of videos. And how you summarise the book and point out your favourite parts and also critique. Wowee. owo There are definitely a few books I'd pick up from that list. Also looking forward to the next round full of theatre!
    Liebe Grüße! :D

    Have you read Mount Analogue by René Daumal?? I was also curious if you’ve read anything by Gurdjieff?
    Saludos desde Mexico! 👋🏽

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  3 года назад +1

      I’ve read quite a bit of Gurdjieff but I don’t like his writings. It’s like he was trying too hard to be misterious and smart and deep, but he wasn’t a writer, so it’s a very precarious and pretentious style. I do like Ouspensky. He is an upper class philosopher and writes as such, so his writing is consistent and trying to make sense of the System he stumbled upon. :)

    Which book do you suggest I start with first? “The Rule of Metaphor” or “Metaphors We Live By?” For context, I have very basic knowledge of metaphors.

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  3 года назад +2

      Metaphors We Live By is much easier to read and gives you a specific frame in metaphor theory. I would start with that one. If you want to grasp the historicity of metaphor theory, then The Rule of Metaphor is a great book for going deeper into other theories and schools of thought. :)

    Hola! Estoy terminando mi BA en Literatura en Argentina y quería saber si es fácil conseguir becas en universidades, por ejemplo Columbia, para estudiantes extranjeros, más que nada porque el dólar en nuestro país es algo caro. Me gustaría poder hacer un máster o phd allá en Teatro ya que la oferta de estudios teatrales es muy escasa acá. Amo los videos de recap!! Porfa hacé más recomendaciones de libros! Saludos 🇦🇷💚

    • @edpavez
      @edpavez  3 года назад +1

      El PhD de teatro es gratis, y la universidad de Columbia me paga un sueldo por estudiar. El tema es que entrar es súper difícil: aceptan solo dos personas al año.
      Me alegro que te gusten estos videos. :D
