Liberals have, historically , preferred to work with the far right over the left, so my optimism about the French liberals changing course to stave off the rights rise is a bit slim.
How Hasan described checks against the rich sheltering their money is exactly how I talk about this with my conservative father. Just write new laws, or properly enforce the tax laws that already exist! Oh, so the rich don’t want to pay their taxes? Ok, then the CRA (Canada’s IRS) needs to enforce our tax codes and we need the NDP (our centre-left) to do their damned jobs and start arguing for harsher taxation of the wealthy to pay for our crumbling federal healthcare funding!
lol "bledard" is a derogatory term used for uneducated and unassimilated Morrocans, Algerians and Tunisians wich have a tendency to go back to "le bled" the hinterland of said contries during holydays. These people usually consist of the poorer members of north african societies that fled largely undevelopped areas. Its more or less like a "hillbilly" that came to town, got a job, but kept all his practices from the countryside and goes back there every opportunity he has. Do note however that the term is employed by just about everyone, either as a joke or in a derogative manner by descendants of immigrants and non descendant alike, depends of the context really.
a lot of the assets you would tax that people are afraid of losing are literally rooted to the earth. Housing, office buildings, land etc. Big billionaire boy can leave but he can't take 300 tonnes of earth or brick with him. There will always be an asset owning class to tax
The thing that is really scary is that the New Popular Front is already having internal disputes, especially between France Unbound and the Socialist Party, the Communist Party and the Ecologists. It is also important to say that the National Rally is the party with the most seats (the NFP being an alliance of multiple parties), which is scarier
The left didn't win, the far right failed to win. The left ended up with the largest number of seats, but without a majority. The result is a three-way tie: nothing can happen without at least two of the big three parties, those three being the leftist bloc, Macron's alliance, and the far-right alliance. So basically Macron's party can choose whether they'd prefer working with the leftists or the far right. The fact that Macron hasn't nominated a prime minister yet suggests that he hasn't made up his mind which of those two options to go for.
fun fact : the RN won over a lot of people by saying "we're not nazis no more pinky promise, also, we're gonna give more money to your boss so maybe if he feels nice he'll up your salary by 3€. Not gonna force em to do anything tho that'd be fucked up."
This is an usual liberal move. But here's a funnier one : "We Nazis aren't antisemite. Lefist are. Come to us, Yuppies!" National Rally currently has Nazi-hunters and Jew-hunters as members!
It dates back from July 2013, when a Mayor-MP said that when he was greeted with nazi salutes and racism/xenophobic accusations for wanting to deport traveling peoples from the village. Tho the thing important to note is that he never was from the National Rally, rather at the time he was from UDI, the Union of Democrats and Independant (centrist movement before Macron)

Tho in this New Popular Front it was also clearly said there will be no alliances with other political blocs.

The New Popular Front won most seats but it's pretty scary how much of the popular vote National Rally got.
