  • We celebrated the New Year by going to bed WAYYY before midnight so that we were ready for an epic hike. To start off 2020 we chose to hike Mount Tom, Mount Field, and Mount Avalon. Mount Tom and Mount Field are both 4,000 footers. Mount Tom has an elevation of 4,052 feet and Mount Field has an elevation of 4,327 feet. Avalon is not too far behind at 3,442 feet.
    This hike was fantastic, especially if you enjoy walking through a majestic forest. Mount Tom and Field do not have a clear overlook at the summit but on clear days you can see a view through the trees. We, however, were not very lucky on this hike, still an amazing hike.
    Avalon does have an incredible overlook that has views of the Crawford Notch. Many people tend to skip this mountain because it is not a 4,000 footer but I urge you to check it out! It definitely was a great end to the hike.

    What a gorgeous bird. It must be freezing it's tail feathers off. Beautiful hike and trail.

      Cool thing about animals are that they are so specially adapted to their environment. This Canada jay has an undercoat in addition to their feathers that keep them nice and warm.

    The snow is absolutely beautiful. You guys are serious hikers for sure. I got tired watching y'all climb the hill. Lol! I would need hot chocolate and several blankets to recover. Lol! The top of the mountain. Wow! Beautiful.

      It's funny because the first thing we did when we got back to the cabin was made up some hot chocolate and got snuggly! I wonder what constitutes a "serious hiker", I've never thought of myself as one until you commented on it! Thanks for the confidence boost!

    This was so beautiful! Reminds me of the hike we do in Montana every year to this big frozen waterfall but we don’t need snowshoes to do it...is it sometimes hard to keep on the trail especially after fresh snow?

    • @WildandGrowing
      @WildandGrowing  4 года назад

      These trails were already packed down so they were not that difficult to follow. If it was fresh snow, I'm sure it would have been a lot harder to follow. We use Alltrails GPS to keep us on track, it's pretty convenient! What is the hike in Montana called? I've never been but would love to visit!

    New Years Hikes are THE BEST (I did the same:), also love New Hampshire, lived there for a year and my husband took me to the white mountains for our first date, so this place is close to my heart, thanks for sharing your hike.

    The view is so pretty, trekking through all that snow seems like fun. I’d rather watch tho lol, too cold for me! Wow what kind of bird 🦅 was that? Lol it actually sat and posed for ya!

    • @WildandGrowing
      @WildandGrowing  4 года назад

      Haha that's why we film, we hope that if we do the hard part we can still bring nature to people choosing not to hike. That bird is a Canada Jay, they are super friendly and are not afraid of people. It's incredible! Thank you for watching!

    3rd summit of the day? Woooo!! I really need to do some of these, I hate not having any mountains near me! It looks like so much fun!!

    • @WildandGrowing
      @WildandGrowing  4 года назад +1

      Where are you from? Hiking doesn't necessarily require a mountain! These mountains were all in a ridge so we didn't have to go up and then down and then all the way up again, but it was still a lot of elevation. Thank you for watching.

      @@WildandGrowing i know it doesnt!! Haha. I go for walks on bike trails and we have a cave nearby. I just always wanted to do hikes in the mountains.
      Im in TN but not close to the smokeys. I'm from Chicago... soooo, yeah, mountains dont exist haha

  • @CarlaMajeno

    This was so cool! I have never hiked in the snow! Is it much harder than hiking regularly?

    • @WildandGrowing
      @WildandGrowing  4 года назад

      It's a lot harder in the snow because you are taking deeper steps and trying not to slip. It's even more difficult with snow shoes because they tend to get heavy while you hike in them.

  • @willgreen77

    great hike. how long did it take?

    • @WildandGrowing
      @WildandGrowing  4 года назад +1

      According to our AllTrails recording. It took us 5 hours and 20 minutes with an hour of breaks for food/rest/appreciate the views/ etc. This was also in deep snow so I’d think it would be quicker in warmer weather.
