Not going to lie, i got some major goose bumps several times during this video :)
@BTIsaac you do realise that this comment is 3 years old and i have zero fucking clue what the fuck are you talking about? I only commented that I liked the video, what the fuck are you on??
@BTIsaac and what am I supposed to do about it? My comment is 3 years old and should be considered in the context of its time. If I read it right I was writing about a goosebumps I was getting while listening to narration and watching art.
@BTIsaac Yet, you are simping for a boy who is pretending to be a woman... 🤦
@@AlleonoriCat Let's not feed the trolls.
Please don't take down this video. It's an incredible piece of art on its own and I have had it in my Favorites tab for years!
Yeah I agree. The art is undeniably incredible, even though I find more and more to dislike about the person. Maybe put a disclaimer or something.
why would it be taken down?
@@krackencrusader403 because she is a racist "apparently"
@@mosspage9360 white knights at it again?
@@mosspage9360 Oh... okay(?) but why?
Please don't delete this video.
Indeed it is important. It shows how the community thought of her prior to someone digging into her Twitter and overanalyzing it.
I like that Force of Will has so much red and fire, and Lightning Bolt has so much blue and darkness in their original arts. Something that I wish they still do.
I come back to watch your videos every now and again, yoir editing style is so capivating it reminds me of why i love magic so much, your artist showcases especially, i hope 2024 is a great year for you sam
My favorite Magic artist.
Terese definitely makes my top 3 Magic artists of all time.
I love your content. Getting lost in the smooth transitions between artwork on the screen and your rich vocabulary dubbed over is so soothing.
Gavin Robertson I
Nielsen is honestly my favorite mtg artist and I hope she gets to continue making more.
You jinxed it.
@@isaiahdaniels5643 bruh 😂
Natural Order is probably the most beautiful piece of art in magic
Anyone else here in 2020, because of WotC’s decision to terminate her from magic.
Yeah 😔
I can't believe it. This woman has done so much for the game! Whos next? Seb McKinnon? Man, this makes me angry....
@@Robert-vk7je Well for the new religion The Cult of Social Justice, any opinion not approved is literally tantamount to violence and thus subject to cancellation
Cancelled for wrong-think. These people are straight out of the novel 1984.
Yup. Kinda done with Wizards.
Her and her brother, Ron Spencer, went to my church, Ron often used magic art in lessons, pretty cool, got to know them pretty well
@BTIsaac Wow. You are truly the lowest of the low.
@BTIsaac You can still go to church without being a White Supremacist. Sure, some people that do go to church are White Supremacists, but saying that is unsurprising for someone to be a white Supremacist in a Church is like saying that it's not surprising that a terrorist attack was done by a Muslim person, or that a banker is Jewish. Stop assuming things about people and actually get to know them, you piece of shit.
Been an mtg fan since 95. In my top 3 artists list, Terese Neilson, Rebecca Guay, and Melissa Benson. Thanks for this deep dive
same! screw the sjw haters they slander her name
This video is a supremely beautiful creation to showcase the supremely beautiful art of one of the most talented artists I've ever come across.
Thank you so much for this.
I have always loved the artwork on all of those cards, but I never put together that they were all by the same artist.
*Your videos have made me take the time to enjoy the artwork on the cards and appreciate the artists whom created them.*
I always found it odd that Force of Will has so much red in the art. Now I get that it started as a red spell!
Came for the magic, stayed for the calming voice. Wonderful content, thank you.
I'm glad you're here.
Thank you for your hard work on these videos.
Easily my favourite MTG RUclipsr! Hard to find a channel that is so passionate for artwork, lore and beauty within the game. Your video format reminds me lots of the video essay format. Keep up the stellar work Sam!
thank you my friend.
Her work is brilliant , neilson has a signature to her work that is unmistakable and beautifully inventive. The compositions are made of elements that flow together perfectly. I have always been a fan of spectrum where the fantastic is universal. 👍👍
Magic just lost the light of a star... She will always be one of the Best artist in magic.
Agreed. This is WotC's loss. Guaranteed they are going to lose more business than they gain by pandering to the people who are outraged. These individuals fail to grasp the concept that a person can hold differing beliefs and still be praised for their accomplishments. Terese Nielsen is one of the best artists ever commissioned for MTG.
Tamarocker88 Nahhh.... they’re gonna be just fine. Their sets will still sell out and people will continue scrambling for cards on the secondary market
@@silentmagelvx2925 unfortunately, I think you are right. Well, I'm not buying Magic products anymore, but of all players I know, I'm the only one.
@@silentmagelvx2925 I never said WotC wouldn't be fine. Never said their sets wouldn't sell out. I said "they are going to lose more business than they gain by pandering to the people who are outraged. "
Just because this one decision causes a net loss compared to the alternative option of continuing to work with Terese doesn't mean that WotC's financials or set sales are in jeopardy. Just means they made the worse financial decision and will see a dip in revenue because of it.
Terese Nielsen's Art means as much to some Magic players as the existence of the color wheel, the existence of artifacts, enchantments, and spells. As much as some people may dislike her opinions, her art is synonymous with MTG.
She's my favorite but she doesn't come close to Chris rush.
Another incredible video. I absolutely love the art on Basandra and knowing the Nielsen actually has a copy of it on her wall adds another level of appreciation for the card. Something else I never realized was the intense detail on the characters' gazes. It really is incredible how much detail is required to give such human expressions
I love Terese Nielsen. The main thing I like about her artworks is how intricately detailed they are!
She is such a lovely person, i made custom tokens with her Star Wars art on them and she signed them!
She also signed my perosnal grail SDCC Chandra, Torch of Defiance. She wrote me a lovely note and is so kind! To be silenced for ones beliefs is a terrible thing, but she never lets any of that bitterness hit the fans!
Do Rebecca Guay
Yesss. Her work is fantastic. It always has this incredible sense of peace about it
metalsabatico I was thinking the samee. She's my favourite mtg artist
Guay, Villeneuve and Nielsen -- easy picks !!!!
Indeed! Please do Rebecca - my favorite artist, she is just beyond incredible!
Guay! Guay! Guay!
This is by far the best RUclips video I've seen yet. This series is great and I love the wait for more. Keep up the Great work!
Terese quickly become one of my most treasured artists. Her work is stunning and I'm always looking forward to new cards with her art on them.
I really enjoy the passion you put into these videos. wonderful work Sam. Staying under 10 mins is probably a sweet spot, though I'm sure I could easily watch hour-long documentaries with you at the helm.
I've asked before, and I shall continue to do so. Please do a video on Greg Staples!
you're not the only one looking for a Staples video :)
@@RhysticStudies What's the name of the game?
@BTIsaac Considering she isn't, and also not someone that is a fascist, like yourself, pretty damn good, and disappointed in WOTC for not commissing her anymore.
I started pla MTG exactly 20 years ago when _Eternal Witness_ came out on Fifth Dawn set. Terese's Eternal is even today one of my favorite cards AND art.
Sam. Thanks for another amazing look into one our favorite MTG artists. Your artistic lens and creative story telling allows the untrained eye to see so much more in the artwork of our beloved cards. Thanks!
Such an iconic MTG Artist. 3 Cheers for Terese!
I absolutely love the series!
Music was spot on. Nice work.
thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed.
#izzetleague
I was waiting so much for you to cover Terese's work, and you surely delivered! An amazing video on an amazing artist, you really bring your content to another level!
Update: all her art is 'reserved list' now
Which let’s be fair would be the best way to get around the reserved list is with new art
Captain Sweatpants That’s why I bought a foil Basandra, I always wanted one but I never had a good reason to get one.
DeadAccount which printing?
@@chad3166 Conspiracy. I think it's the only version you can get in foil that isn't oversized.
Given that people are calling for all the art made by the nazi who drew the art for invoke prejudice to be banned....
And wizards isn't discriminating between card printing when deciding if they are removing a card from the game....
I wouldn't be surprised if the Ban Force of Will by the end of the year
(As wizards may decide to delete entire artists from the game with enough pressure)
One of my all time favourite MTG artists. It's a shame she's no longer working with Wizards. I'd love to see a video on Rebecca Guay. Cheers from Canada!
Abenidi (uh-ben-uh-die) , I love Friberg as well. Now thanks to you I can love Terese Nelson. Great video
oh man what a fantastic video. shank you so much for your work Sam.
By far my favorite artist in MTG. Excellent work from your side, a lot of research and effort comes with a great result :)
Another masterful analysis of iconic and astonishing art. Thank you Sam!
Finally, been waiting for this artist for a while. Love her art, and the background on this individual was appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for all your awesome art over the years with MTG! I love my Force of Will Playmat's I own both art's! I purchased off your website & sighed in gold ink! you will be missed by the players & collector's...
wow, i want the entire world to watch this video. kudos to you and Teresa
Discovered your channel just yesterday, and marveled at your mastery of the content and presentation. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to unearth all the amazing background to the artists and their works. Love always. 👍♥️
You sir are a true magic scholar! Brilliant video.
The most beautiful art I’ve ever seen!
This video was effing incredible. Like, I am blown away. Well done.
Jeeze Sam, this video has got to be your best yet and I've been around since the beginning. The music and presentation literally gave me goosebumps.
"and I've been around since the beginning" has to be one of my favorite compliments. thank you man.
Goosebumps from the intro
I love this series of your channel most. Sam thank you for doing these kinds of videos. I love seeing the different pieces from each artist you have covered and the analysis of their technique, style and themes.
I look forward the next one.
Alphonse Mucha is my favorite artist! So sweet to see his influence mentioned here. :D
she is such an amazing lady! I never met her... yet. But I purchased some proofs from her store and she always write nice notes along with the signed cards. She also takes the time to greet me on my day of birthday on facebook.
She's an amazing artist and an awesome person.
@BTIsaac It's kinda hard to imagine a white supremacist spending time to leave a warm message on a person of color's facebook on their birthday.
@BTIsaac I have never seen anyone believe their own BS as much as you have. 🤦
Call to Mind was my first card by Terese Nielsen, and I've been in love with her art ever since. I've even built a commander deck around Enter the Infinite. Also, I loved your music!
Call to Mind is one of my favorite Nielsen pieces as well.
every time I play Call to Mind, I yell out "CAN YOU FEEL ME?" to invoke Tupac Shakur.
for me the art on that piece will always be 2Pac.
Bassandra still remains one of the most evocative and powerful, yet elegant card art! These videos have been fantastic, def subscribed as the Artwork of Magic the Gathering is PRECISELY why I got into the game and was so captivated by it as a kid, much of the art is so captivating and lends us a reason to further use our imaginations!
once again a high quality video. only the best from you Sam.
I've just found your channel a little while ago today through Tolarian Community College's channel and "The Magic Art of" series of yours is my favorite series. I've just watched all of them thus far and I love it because ever since I first got into Magic in 2010 I've always been into the art of Magic cards. I find myself gazing at cards that catch my eye and admiring all the art and fantasy that is held within them. Keep making videos, I really enjoy them!
I'm so glad I check out this channel after your appearance on The Command Zone. You do masterful work, sir.
awesome to hear! shoutout to J&J
Those circles always inspire me so much.
Sam this video is absolute fantastic! Great work!
thanks :)
Absolutely love this series of video you are doing, Sam! Thanks a ton for putting quality videos out, man. :D
So sad... ends relationship with wizards, one of my favorite artist.
True, but it will be WotC's loss. Guaranteed they are going to lose more business by cutting ties with her than they would have by refusing to pander to the extreme minority who are outraged. These individuals fail to grasp the concept that a person can hold differing beliefs and still be praised for their accomplishments. Terese Nielsen is one of the best artists ever commissioned for MTG.
Tamarocker88 she was one of the best. Now she’s no longer commissioned and in about a decade, she will just be a memory as people grow attached to new artists who dont hold shit opinions or prey on their community
@@silentmagelvx2925 Terese has been around since the beginning of MTG. If you think she's suddenly going to stop being one of the best artists in MTG's history after a measly 10 years, I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you...
For most people with an IQ above 30, an artist's work can be enjoyed and praised regardless of their personal opinion. Appreciation of a piece of art is not praise of the entirety of the artist's lifestyle and beliefs. It is entirely possible to appreciate art in and of itself regardless of the artist's personal beliefs. Those beliefs have nothing to do with the art unless they directly inspired or affected it.
Prey on their community? How did Terese prey on the MTG community?
Tamarocker88 that’s exactly it, she’s going to be history of a different time. And hey, Im gonna miss her art on cards too, but its not hard to see why a company might not want to be associated with a person holding her views. Also, I was talking about Noah Bradley, who just got outed as a sexual predator and disowned by Wizards
@@silentmagelvx2925 I see the words you're typing, but you're not supporting the claim you made. You said Terese "WAS one of the best". Emphasis mine. Your use of the past tense implies that Terese is no longer one of the best artists in MTG. Her beliefs do not change the quality of her art. It may change your subjective opinion of her as a person, but that is irrelevant to the quality of her work.
She still is one of the best MTG artists. She still will be in 10 years. She probably will be considered one of the best MTG artists until the game or its first 20+ years of players die.
If you can't appreciate someone's contributions in this world because you disagree with their personal beliefs, you should probably go live on a desolate island by yourself because I guarantee you that nearly every aspect of your life and the technical marvels contained within it are the result of centuries of humans whose beliefs have been as varied and controversial as you can possibly imagine.
Terese Nielsen, Rebecca Guay, Ron Spencer, Phil Foglio, Mark Tedin, Richard Kane Ferguson, Scott Kirschner and I am sure there are others but those artists off the top of my head have enchanted me since the first day I ever saw MTG.
this is a strong list.
You cover all of the most amazing artists, I love this serie, Sam !
I absolutely adore Terese's work, I've got several of her prints hanging in my room!
Nice video Sam! Terese is one of my favorite artists who have been with the game pretty much since the beginning. You briefly showed one of the pieces of her's that I love on the card Descendants' Path.
There's a whole story in that art detailing the past generations of the little girl who is the focus of the piece, her brother hanging out in the bottom right, and the phases of the moon, with the new moon over the newest generation of the family and the livestock. It all comes together to make a piece that seems at the same time otherwordly and at home. There's a lot going on in the piece, but for some reason it doesn't feel too busy to me, everything makes sense were it is. I'm a fan.
ain't that piece something special? reviewing that one could be a video entirely in itself.
so you're gonna do a video on that, right?
plz
One of your best videos on the channel, her art is still chilling it’s so good even after seeing it over all these years
I love her art. NIce video and great job.
Your voice is perfect. Such a weird thing to say, but your voice/videos simultaneously inspire me and drive me to be better at what I'm passionate about while also lulling me into a sense of calm and rest. I'm not sure how to explain it and I'm sure that came off super weird, but there it is. Either way, never stop making these videos. They are pure gold.
Her art is so intense and truly invokes awe. Magic was lucky to have her work grace the artbox.
She is amazing.
Your channel is incredible, man. I cannot believe I just stumbled upon it now. Thank you very much for making these awesome videos!
great to hear! welcome aboard.
My buddy and I have a play mat of the art at 4:01. Literally spent hours just staring at it, finding new details well, well after we bought it. It's some seriously awesome stuff, man.
Your videos are informative. I have been searching for good videos that explore the art of MTG, and I am glad I have found one. Please keep the videos coming. Subscribed!
I'm glad you're here!
The creator of some of the most badass women in all of magic's artwork. Another great video
@BTIsaac That card had EXCELLENT art, by the way... 🤭
@BTIsaac maybe think of Force of Will. You know, one of the most popular cards in the game. With a beautiful depiction of a woman of color. Stop sniffing your own farts.
BTIsaac Rhystic Study, Force of Will, Guiding Spirit, Keeper of the Flame, and plenty of examples of diverse male cards exist. You’ve been poisoned, seek help.
@BTIsaac ...🤦
Great video! I really like your narrating and the structure! Well done!
Bah, you're getting better and better at this Sam! Amazing work!
Always fascinating for me to see Mormon culture influence someone, as it's influenced me. I grew up passing that abanadi painting every Sunday
When your artwork is so good your basic lands cost as much as dual lands.
I love her art so much
She is my most faovourite Magic Artist. Thanks for the amazing videos.
Nicely done! Her art for Hanna and Sydri are both among my absolute favorites.
Damn, I love her artwork.
Keep it up man. You have no idea how much content like yours can save the day!
Beautiful video! thank you for showcasing on of my favorite artists
wow, thanks Sam. I learned so much.
In most board and card games I would describe the art as "functional", it is not ugly or bad, but it serves its purpose and nothing more. There are exceptions of course, some of the Android Netrunner cards depicting vistas and characters in cyberspace are quite fantastic. But overall MTG cards have "actual" artwork on their cards, many of the pieces I could easily see in a gallery or museum. Not many comanies have the same amount of money to throw around on artwork sadly, but if the gameplay is solid you can look past that. But fantastic art can make a merely good game, great.
The geometric aspect of this art is easily my favorite stylistic choice within mtg, the art on lifelink is by far one of my favorite pieces of magic art of all time
So sad that they won`t be working with her anymore
True, but it will be WotC's loss. Guaranteed they are going to lose more business by canceling her than they would have if they refused to pander to the people who are outraged. These individuals fail to grasp the concept that a person can hold differing beliefs and still be praised for their accomplishments. Terese Nielsen is one of the best artists ever commissioned for MTG.
@BTIsaac Following alt-right sources on social media does not make one a white supremacist. But go on...
@BTIsaac Fail to see how she's a white supremacist. Just cause she followed some right wing media? So everybody needs to have the same point of view?
@BTIsaac OMG you are dense . Nothing of what u mentioned is true. So millions of people that enjoyed her art now hold her beliefs? Cos she followed someone? I have thousand of follows for all kind of reasons . Could not tell u what 90% of them do , feel or believe... please do tell me - i was always interested how people like you manage to survive on their own? How do tie your shoes ???
@BTIsaac give me an example of anybody who she followed is a actual "white supremacist" I'm subscribed to the Young Turks do I agree with everything they say? No am I a lefty? No so why? Because it's good to get viewpoints of all sides and some things I actually can agree with just like FOX news something's I can agree with. Just cause she followed alt right media doesn't really mean that she's a white supremacist even if it was a white supremacist you can agree with some things and disagree with others.
Ah! I love this series so much, keep up the great work mate :)
Eternal witness is one of my favorite cards not just because of power but the art is beautiful as well
I'm so glad I found this RUclips channel... I've subscribed, liked and bookmarked the hell out of this and will spend a lot of hours watching all your video's over and over again. -artistical Vorthos, creator of ballpoint scribbles, upcomming MtG artist, FROST
Her new token series is breathtaking. Love it!
i just love that mix of simple outlines, realism and simplistic almost 2d comic she uses
You have a keen mind and described her work perfectly throughout. I am so happy I stumbled across your channel. Subscribed and keep up the great work!
love this thanks for the upload
lucky enough to have her autograph
She illustrated my favorite card, Fact or Fiction. It's such a wonderful piece, on such an awesome card. She is my favorite artist by far, next to Argyle.
She is truly among the greats
I am sure she should be gleaming in pride for the efforts put into this video. It's refreshing to see a light cast on a part of magic we so often overshadow due to being drawn in, into the game itself.
Great channel! Do more and more and more! I'm a painter, and you gave me a lot of knowledge with these videos. Thank you!
Her art for the SDCC Promo Chandra inspired me to watch this video again. I must have it!!!
duuuuuude. you are the premier magic voice of the present Sam.
heh. nah. but I appreciate it!
got my to finally go over to patreon bud. you're doing something right.
thank you so much. this means a lot!
Looks like Tere Nielsen's work will be used one last time for the Force of Will reprint will be used one last time! I plan to buy many...
