  • A walk around the top of the Radio Tower (Hits Radio reside here) Known as St Johns Beacon, Built 1969 & designed by James Roberts. Opened by Queen Elizabeth II.
A revolving restaurant from 1971 to 1981/2 with a French Cuisine Menu, a teenage Chef got his first job there straight from college & has shared his memories of it with the echo & how the restaurant bought cream cakes from a bakery below changed the fake cream to real cream and sold them as a dessert 4 x the price! He was paid 20p per hour back then!!
In 1983 a Buck Rogers Burger Bar was opened but closed within a year due to safety issues, the tower was left abandoned until 1999 when Radio City bought it and renovated it, then opened in 2000.
Prices change all the time it was about £3 in 2017 when we last went & £8 adult £7 65+ £6.50 (16/17) £6 (4-15) plus family ticket prices as at Summer 2024.
Recommend it as you get great views, view at your own leisure with lots of signs to tell you about the history, you may see someone doing live radio in the radio rooms. Lift access to the top. Some seating up there if you need a rest.

It’s our 2nd time up it, does have great views, the fact you can view at your own pace is also great. They called it a UFO at one point it had LED lights around it so looked liked the aliens were coming 😄
