24:33 I played this piece as a solo on the violin for my senior year solo. As I study now in college, hearing this piece once again, it gives me this full-circle feeling of nostalgia, longing for the past, while also appreciating how far I’ve come since then.
Working on my PhD thesis to this. It's the last stretch and man am I tired. It will be worth it though. If you are reading this: You got this, keep pushing through, know when to rest and God bless you.
@@sacha_msky It's a Doctorate degree at university. If you graduate from university normally, you'll have a Bachelor's degree, but you can continue your studies and get a Master's degree, or go past that and get a Doctorate. PhD is technically an abbreviation for "Doctor of Philosophy", but you can get a PhD in pretty much any subject. (And original poster, I hope your thesis went well!)
It was late at night, 11 p.m. to be precise, and Rockwell was studying buried up to his eyes in the books, in a seldom tread part of the old library. It had been hours since he had come in to the library and according to an alert from his phone it was now raining outside. In fact, a mobile phone and a charger were the only devices he frequently used during the most tense part of the school year, the lead up to final exams. He had been raised in a somewhat old-fashioned household, and it showed most apparently in times of stress where great concentration was needed during research. It was remarked by a friend that while he might act like a normal teenager or young adult, who would live in the year 2023 he very much reverted back 100 years in habit and demeanor, whenever he became serious at his studying. “ who knew that the guy who played persona five and smash Bros on the switch with a burning passion and would joke around like the rest of us could turn into such a serious person almost overnight” the friend had said. He would neglect almost every electronic device other than what was absolutely necessary for his work to the point that occasionally friends and family worried for him and his whereabouts until they learned what was happening. As the old clock struck, 11 PM, the door opened, and Rockwell was brought back to present by a exhausted and concerned, young lady, who said “ you are still here?! we closed an hour ago. I’m surprised you didn’t leave.” “ I’m sorry about that. I’m just trying to get ready for a test two days from now. Whether or not I pass college depends on how well I do” Rockwell said. The young lady named Marion then asked “ How do you manage reading all of these books for that long? Something tells me you haven’t taken a break for hours.” Blearily eyed Rockwell took a second to process the words asked to him, and replied “ well, I have a bit of a habit of mine that I study until I drop for several days until two days before a major test. I collapse in bed and sleep through most of the second to last day before an exam, and spend my last day before a test relaxing and enjoying myself, so I won’t be nervous on the big day.” Marion, then realized she had heard about this young man before, and remembered that some of the patrons at a local coffee shop would remark that there was a person on campus, who seemed to act like a normal college student whenever he wasn’t overly stressed, but that he had fits of reclusiveness in the lead up to major assignments. Come to think of it he even dressed differently. It looked like the clothes he would be wearing while studying looked something out of the office suit someone might have used in the 1920s rather than a college student from the 2020’s. Realizing that the young man in front of him was at the point of exhaustion, she gently closed the book in his hands, and then padded him on the shoulder, saying “ I think you’ve done enough studying for today you look like you need to eat something and take a rest. I can put the books away for you. Do you live on campus or will you be needing to drive? You don’t look like you’re in any condition to drive a car right now because you’re so tired I can call someone to bring you home if needed.” Rockwell smiled and stood up from the chair replying “ that won’t be necessary my dorm is just a short walk away from here. I think I can get back safely and I think I’ll take your advice. I’ll cook something to eat and go straight to bed. Thank you for your kindness.” “ no problem. I hope you’re doing well in your exam.” as the two acquaintances parted ways that night, the two of them were thankful that they would soon be able to engage in their respite from the ceaseless toils of modern life. Hope you enjoyed this little short story of mine I have not had much experience in writing, so tell me what you think and how you like it. Constructive criticism will be much appreciated.
You've done a great job with this piece. The pacing and overall flow are pretty good. You are able to paint a vivid picture of the protagonist's dedicated study habits, as well as his unusual methods for dealing with stress. There are, however, a few areas where you could improve. Here are some suggestions: Punctuation and Grammar: While you have used sentences and phrases to express your ideas, sometimes they can get a little long-winded, which makes it hard to understand. Try breaking down some of your sentences into shorter ones, and ensure you're using commas and other punctuation correctly to guide the reader. For example: Before: "In fact, a mobile phone and a charger were the only devices he frequently used during the most tense part of the school year, the lead up to final exams." After: "In fact, during the tense lead up to the final exams, a mobile phone and a charger were the only devices he frequently used." Show, Don't Tell: You have great detail in your writing, but sometimes it's better to show this information to the reader rather than explicitly tell them. For instance, instead of telling us that Rockwell reverts back 100 years in habit and demeanor, show us his old-fashioned habits and let us infer this information. Dialogue: Try to create more natural dialogue. Avoid using dialogue as an information dump, which can come off as artificial. Make sure that each character has a distinct voice, which can be showcased through the dialogue. Before: "well, I have a bit of a habit of mine that I study until I drop for several days until two days before a major test. I collapse in bed and sleep through most of the second to last day before an exam, and spend my last day before a test relaxing and enjoying myself, so I won’t be nervous on the big day.” After: "Well, I guess I'm a bit of a marathoner when it comes to studying. I push myself hard until two days before a major test. Then I sleep for a day, and take it easy on the final day. It helps keep the nerves at bay." Consistency: Make sure your story's details are consistent. In the beginning, you mentioned it was 11 p.m., then later the old clock struck 11 p.m. again. Paragraphs: Break up your text into more manageable paragraphs. Each new speaker in dialogue should have their own paragraph, and new ideas or shifts in the story should also start a new paragraph. This makes the text easier to read and understand. Adjectives and Adverbs: While you've used some good descriptive words, sometimes less is more. Using simpler language can often make the writing clearer and more effective. I hope this helps! Please keep writing; your talent and creativity are evident.
@@victorelgersma7845 thanks! This is actually one of the very first times I have endeavored upon making a short story, and I actually did this on the fly using the voice typing function on my mobile phone. Because of that there can sometimes be some punctuation errors as it has the bad habit of wanting to put commas on every single instance where you take a break for two seconds. Some of the other things in terms of errors I suppose go down to either my inexperience or the fact that I myself was attempting to write the short story before going to bed. I think it was around 10 or 11 o’clock when I made it. Also, in the past when I have wrote essays, I’ve had someone proofread them and I didn’t have that opportunity at this occasion. However, I will try to take your advice into account and I thank you that you have informed me about these details!

Same but I'm not in the library but just home alone studying for tomorrow's French lesson. It will be the last lesson before exam and I have so many deadlines that I think I won't be sleeping tonight, doing all this sht. I'm tired, I cried a lot and had a panic attack bcs I don't understand French, it's very difficult and I struggle with these tasks bcs noone can help me. I know it's my fault, I have only myself to blame. If I don't do it, I will probably fail the exam. At least this calming playlist will keep me company
You are not alone, we will get through this. I know how it feels, when you are trying to understand content and it's getting you no where and you feel like the only person who is struggling so much. But it's not true, we are all struggling in some ways, even the people who you think easily get the grades. Some people have to work harder than others I suppose, but as long you don't give up, it's gonna be okay.
When a student fails, it's really the teacher that fails. Philosophy won't help you pass your exam, but don't be too hard on yourself if you don't do well. No one will remember that you're bad at French. But I have a feeling you'll squeak by. I always did, and I'm pretty stupid. Do your best!

A poem about the many stories a library has to offer. For those who read my poem, thank you. 37:41
Shelves of stories.
Each one containing
A long lost wish.
A forgotten lover -
Found and rekindled.
Aspirations of youth -
Achieved and remembered.
These stories do more
Than birth our reveries.
They remind us of
Our dreadful mistakes.
A loved one - abandoned.
A naive child - lost.
An honest dream - ignored.
Oh, the many stories told.
Each encompassing a lesson.
So, which do you wish to read?
Those who bring into existence
Those long-lost dreams,
Or those which remind you
Of the mire regrets of your life.
