I (actually) abridged Pokemon Episode 34 to about a minute

  • S1E34 - "The Kangaskhan Kid"
The fake Safari Zone episode, where Jenny accuses Ash of being a poaching, and points a gun at him.
Since the real Safari Zone episode was banned for gun violence, this is the episode the dub tried to retroactively claim as Safari Zone. Which makes Jenny arresting him seem pretty nonsensical in retrospect.

Can we also talk about how the parents abandoned their child only to abandon him again

There's a great page on Bulbapedia called "Weaponry in the Pokemon World" all about examples of real-world guns and explosives being used in the anime.
Surprise, surprise, pretty much all of their examples come from the original series, LOL

Anyone else notice that Tommy looks like Gary because of the spikey hair? And was voiced by Gary himself? 😂

I hated these three guest characters, both the first time and re-watching to make this.
I saw my chance to be mean to them and I took it! XD

TBH, given how cartoonishly awful Papa was as a parent for the first 20 minutes of the episode, I kinda feel like dying for his sins is more thematically appropriate anyway.

Why the heck was this child abuse considered acceptable in 90s cartoons? Gotta agree with everyone else that your ending is much better.

Def agree. As well, ethics aside, I've always _hated_ the trope of the "fake-out heroic sacrifice."
If you don't want a death to happen, you can find a million other ways to make the audience feel sad other than killing a character. If you *DO* want a heroic sacrifice to happen, then you have to have the balls to make it stick, otherwise it feels empty and pointless!

@@SpeedBoostTorchic Like the Not-Death of Superman story from the 90’s?

@@thegreyjedi2372 The Death and Return of Superman was before my time (and before my birth, lol) but one that's closer to me is the Return of Bruce Wayne.
Nightwing was my favorite superhero ever so I _really_ liked the Battle for the Cowl. Watching Dick Grayson learn to be Batman and everyone else learn to accept him as Batman was awesome. The books that came out of the event were cool too, like Gotham City Sirens and Detective Comics: Lesbian Edition.
Then BOOM - Bruce Wayne came back and the status quo was restored.
Remember when Darkseid vaporized Bruce with his eye lasers? Turns out, instead of killing him, they sent him back in time so he could be a caveman and then a pirate.
The Return of Bruce Wayne isn't even a bad book really, it's just that it's such a huge tone shift from the story of (and stories following) Batman's death that it feels outlandish and ridiculous as an explanation. It's hard to feel emotionally invested in a story when the writers aren't invested in delivering a satisfying conclusion.

@@SpeedBoostTorchic Totally. It’s probably why I like the Injustice universe. When characters die, they STAY dead.
