Mindy, you’re one of the few RUclipsrs I click like on before even watching the video. 😊 Thanks for the great ideas!
Thanks so much, Kimberly! I appreciate that. 😂
I do the same thing.
Same!
Same ❤️
I do as well lol gotta show that support.
(Recipe Below) Not quite the marinara route, but ever since I learned to make Spaghetti Lo Mein I've saved a ton on Chinese takeout (it's now a treat with the rising price in restaurant food, but I still like to support when I can). It isn't accurate, but for those who like Chinese-American flavours it's super yummy!
For a family meal (4-5 servings) :
- 10-12 oz Spaghetti / Linguine / Fettucine (or fresh Lo Mein Egg Noodles from an Asian Grocer), cooked and drained.
- Veggies (I like some chopped onion, some chopped cabbage or even just abt two cups of plain bagged coleslaw mix which makes it super fast on a weeknight, chopped spinach, mushrooms, snap/snow peas, etc. really whatever you have hanging out in the kitchen is great), sauteed until cooked through.
Sauce, stir together in a small bowl/measuring cup:
- 1/4 c Soy Sauce (whichever type you prefer, adjust salt to taste as necessary)
- 2 T Oyster Sauce
- 1/2 tsp Sesame Oil
- 2 T Brown Sugar
- 1 T Fresh or Jarred Minced Garlic
- 1/2 tsp Ginger Powder
- Dash Red Chili Flakes (or Black Pepper to taste for spice averse)
- 2 T Vegetable Oil
Cook sauce in pot for 3-5 minutes, until garlic and ginger are fragrant. Pour in cooked veggies and pasta, tossing to coat completely.
I serve this on the side of crockpot teriyaki chicken, or in the summer we do a marinated grilled teriyaki boneless skinless chicken thighs or teriyaki salmon foil packets, which are sooo yummy, can't wait to get the grill out again.
This video came at the perfect time! I just found whole wheat spaghetti for 57 cents a pound. Bought 8! Thanks for the ideas!
That’s a great buy!
I never miss a video and my 2&1/2 yr old has recently been watching your videos with me. Today she said “Mom, I like her cookin.” 😂
Oh my! That Sunrise crunchy vanilla cereal IS THE BOMB!!!
I have used hotdog or hamburger buns for garlic bread for years. It’s a great way to use up those last few buns that would normally go to waste.
Agreed!
I do that too.
You can also spread them with garlic butter and freeze them in foil, to pop in the oven at a future date.
I love your no nonsense channel! You don’t add any fluff and you tell it like it is. Please continue to make such basic and easy meal ideas. This momma is burning out! I’m on year 20 of feeding my family every meal.
I did green beans on the side of my spaghetti the other night. Delicious!
Also you taking the ends off the beans reminded me of all the times I sat on the front porch with my grandmother and did that. 🥰
Yep! Me too, with my mom in the summer.
I have glass pasta sauce jars I have saved just for this. I make a big batch of sauce once and then we have sauce for a while. I learned if you grate a carrot and add to your onions it gives your sauce a slight sweetness and cuts some of that acid. Love your videos!
Your humor is greatly appreciated. I’m the same way. Lol…. Thank you for your recipe. It’s sounds good.
Thanks, Lisa! Glad I could make somebody laugh! (Besides myself 😂)
When I moved to the Northeast from the South, I learned that in Boston- Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Night!
I was just watching a video of the original commercial! Classic! I used to live in Rhode Island, same thing.
Sometimes the classics like spaghetti just really hit the spot. Love this video Mindy!
Thanks!
I love all of your videos and your sense of humor! I've followed you for some time now and just stumbled onto this one today. I'm an Okie now living in TN and i get you! You go right on talking to us from the cabinet next to the fridge!
This is one of my very favorite videos of all your great food videos! Love the links to the recipes, etc.
You really do good in front of a camera...I love to watch you and how comfortable you seem to be...
Spaghetti dinner is, indeed, an amazing staple! It's so easy to have all the ingredients on hand.
My grandad was 100% Italian, so we grew up eating a lot of spaghetti. His sauce used fresh tomatoes, and he even stuffed his own Italian sausage. I use canned, but the same seasonings as in the family recipe. I’ve started making my own Italian sausage but make it like if you added ground beef. I’ve bought an inexpensive meat grinder for my mixer, so I can buy cheap pork shoulders to grind for it. Also have a pasta roller/cutter that makes the best noodles, but can be a bit time consuming. One day I hope to grow plenty of tomatoes to make sauce just like he and my ancestors did. Love your videos! You’ve given me so many great ideas for dinners and ways to save on groceries.
I just recently made a large crockpot full of spaghetti sauce to freeze for quick and convenient meals. It’s an easy way to have a simple meal ready after a long day of work. Thaw in the refrigerator while I’m at work and then just cook noodles once I get home.
Try combining red spaghetti sauce with Alfredo sauce for a great and easy rose’ sauce.
Great idea!
My parents always used extra hot dog or hamburger rolls or the ends of the loaf of bread for garlic toast all the time when I was a kid. I just did it the other day with leftover hotdog rolls the other night, my kids thought I was crazy but they loved it. English muffin pizza was always a winner in my house as a kid and is still a favorite quick lunch or afternoon snack as an adult.
Awesome recipe and ideas, thanks for sharing 👍👍❤️
Just love the cabinet skit
The way I make marinara sause 32 oz crushed tomatoes 🍅 just add Oregon and nutmeg taste great family ❤️ love it
I love that even though you are growing your channel, you are so genuine and keeping true to yourself and mission. Thank you for your energy and time ❤
Thanks, Morgan. I really appreciate that! 😊
Spaghetti was once a week when I was working and gone from 7am to 7 pm for my family..my kids are now in their 30’s and they refuse to eat it or prepare it for their families😂..But they loved it during their growing years and it was so budget and working mom friendly!
I could still eat it once a week!
Pasta is my favourite food. Being inexpensive is just a fringe benefit. :) Thanks for the sauce recipe. I've written it down. Another interesting, helpful and fun video. Thanks Mindy. :)
Me, too, Paula. Pasta is definitely my preferred starch. Pretty sure I could eat it every day of the week.
Protein ideas for people who want a meatless "bolognese" style sauce: lentils (I've used and liked both red and brown lentils), crumbled tofu, and finely chopped mushrooms. I saute the crumbled tofu (which I also usually marinate in a little soy sauce) and mushrooms first before adding the pasta sauce usually. I typically boil lentils separately and then add them to the pasta sauce.
About to have my first baby and spaghetti + lentils + marinara sauce is definitely one of the top meals on my rotation. I like to freeze the homemade sauce and just make the pasta the night I eat it
I adore your videos! Thank you so much for your content! It has been so helpful these days. 🤗💚👌👍👍
Thanks, Candice!
Okie here - we were raised on spaghetti! Love it!
We just got a deep electric skillet so I am excited to have spaghetti. It's been a long time just heating ready pasta in the oven with the sauce. Our stove died a while ago and we are still trying to save to get another. Great ideas! ❤️
I make my marinara sauce with 32oz crushed tomatoes season with oregano and nutmeg got this from a utube years ago and family 👪 ❤️ loves it. Gave information to alot of other people and their families 👪 loves it too
I am making mini meatballs, pasta and green beans tomorrow. Perhaps I will make cheesy garlic bread too!
I'm going to be trying this! Love the twist idea, my kids will think that's so fun. Everything looked delicious and I like the green bean swap for salad, too. My favorite part, though, is definitely the crockpot sauce since it saves time and money for the next few batches. 💡 great video as always
I add in spinach to my pasta sauce when I want to increase my veggies, or sometimes add chopped up mushrooms to bulk up a meat sauce.
You and Christine are my favs. I am lobbying hard for a collab between you two. 😏😏
That would be so amazing! Add Jen Chapin and we'd have the ultimate trifecta
@@mrsj2263 That would be truly EPIC! 😉
If you've never tried it, balsamic glaze is AMAZING on spaghetti. And I don't add sugar to my sauce but I love adding all sorts of veggies, bell pepper, carrot, mushrooms. My family loves spaghetti!
Healthy choice has a balsamic glaze on spaghetti that’s pretty delicious. I’ve never thought of making it myself before. What a great idea.
Hot sausage is always our go to for spaghetti... good idea with the pizza dough-i never would've thought to use that.. thanks
Glad I could give an idea, Sarah!
I haven't finished the video yet but I am not a big spaghetti eater. On the other hand I LOVE spaghetti sauce. There are several other uses for the sauce. I use it for dipping garlic bread, making pizza sandwiches, etc. Recently I for the first time crumbled some leftover meatloaf into the sauce. It was delicious. Of course that makes sense because meatloaf recipes have similar ingredients to meatballs, so the leftovers make good pasta sauce and "meatball" sandwiches.
Oh and freezer bag leaks reminds me of another channel where the creator has bins in her refrigerator and freezer. One bin would be for laying the bags flat then once frozen you could stand them upright in the second bin. Things frozen flat are usually not perfectly flat and so it becomes difficult to pack other things on them without things slipping and falling but in a bin they are standing upright, no slipping and the things needed first would be in the one bin while the newer things would be in the flat bin. Not that I am organized enough to do that
I love using homemade sauce to make a good ground beef, bean, and veggie soup. Some people call it bachelor soup. If I'm lucky enough to have cabbage that goes in too or even some sort of pasta.
I really like the idea of using the pizza dough for knots or twists! So simple.
Hi, Mindy. You could also serve the green beans cold (after cooking them) and add just a little oil & vinegar with herbs. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the pizza twist tip!!!
I’ve never tried green beans cold before! Sounds really interesting and different
Pillsbury use to make something called Cornbread Twist. I use to make Corndogs with them. I haven't seen them in years at least at Walmart. We loved them better than regular corndogs. Less breading which is what my son didn't like was all the breading.
Hello Becky
I like to zoodle some zucchini and do a 50/50 ratio with spaghetti. Veggies without even trying
That’s a good idea to mix it up.
@@SeeMindyMom I''m horrible at getting enough vegetables. I like to hide them, too. 😅
Great video with lots of good ideas. Thanks Mindy and I do appreciate your humor😊
Thanks, Cheryl!
I personally thought the little cabinet bit was very cute and funny. I also think I'm a comedian with my family but maybe I'm really not.😂
We would actually put grated cheddar on our spaghetti many times (maybe we were out of the green shaker?). Fond memories. Mom used the seasoning packets, too. I always bought the cans/ jars when I was on my own, though.
God bless you Mindy and your family...I think things are going to get rough
Gotta have bread 🥖 with spaghetti and meat sauce! I love Italian bread and soft butter to dip!
I open a bag salad. Add cucumber
Love, Love, Love your commercial joke. Great ideas.
You ARE funny! That gave me a chuckle! LOL
I always make a giant batch of pasta sauce when I make a lasagna! Equivalent to 3 jars. I use half for the lasagna and then split the other half into two containers (which is the perfect amount of sauce for just my husband and I on a lazy weeknight).
Love it!
Oh spaghetti dinner is a staple in my house. I always make a lot and have the left overs for a few extra meals. I also take half of the spaghetti and freeze it. Great video
Spaghetti reheats so well, too. The sauce is often better on the 2nd day!
That is the perfect meal to me ! All my favorites on one plate ! Looks so delicious !
I like to add bell peppers to mine, with some frozen meatballs. Quick and easy.
Love that cut scene! 🤣
Two ingredient dough is also a great option for bread!!! I make garlic knots all the time with it!
My husband does not like spaghetti noodles so we use penne, so I can mix things in it a little easier sometimes. I started using "pasta night" as a way to get rid of leftovers. I will throw in leftover chicken from a rotisserie or shredded pork when we are tired of the BBQ port (just don't add the BBQ sauce that night) or leftover italian sausages (cut them into bite size pieces to go around better if not enough), I also add veggies sometimes right to the same pot like broccoli or cauliflower. I agree with you about the spaghetti squash instead of pasta with marinara sauce, it can make for an easy meal that is very healthy. I make my own sauce and buy jarred sauce, but when I make it I will go to Costco and buy one of those big industrial kitchen size cans of tomatoes and add 12 oz of tomato paste, garlic, a chopped onion and a shredded carrot and then seasoning to the crockpot and let it go all day, that is wonderful to pull out of the freezer when you need a quick meal.
I love making bulk red sauce in the slow cooker :) my favourite way to do it! I’m gonna give those green beans a try for sure!
I've been meaning to try those green beans for a while now. The last time I bought green beans they disappeared (I think someone cleaned out the fridge after I forgot about them - 😬)
Thanks for your videos thanks ❤️ 😊
My one year olds favorite…and my whole fam! Thanks for the ideas🤗
We make spaghetti alots of different ways. We will make chilli with or without beans, whatever we are feeling and we do spaghetti noodles or chilli.dogs or chilli cheese fries, chilli cheese baked potato, frito pie. Got the idea for the spaghetti from fred and Red's in Joplin. My chilli is not the same but does the trick when I want it but not the drive to Missouri lol
One of my favorite meals of all times.
My mother use to do sliced pork chop spragetti, oh so good and with a family of five with dad in military not making much money the meals mom could make something out of nothing, but all her different kinds of spragetti was my stay home for dinner night.😉
I have a friend who always makes large batches and shares his meals. He puts Porkchop in his spaghetti sauce too. It’s so delicious.
Hello!!! from Cape Town South Africa we love spaghetti and tomato meat balls too 😁 I love watching u cook
Yeah, most of this I do too. The green beans with breadcrumbs and cheese looks and sounds delicious, I've never heard of this but going to try it the next time I have green beans. Most people I know do this already but for those those that don't think about it homemade or even jarred marinara makes the perfect pizza sauce. Why buy those jars or bottles of pizza sauce? The only thing you may have to do is add a little more seasoning, if your brand is a little bland. I usually watch every time a new video comes up, for some reason missed this a couple of days ago. Also ever since you mentioned garlic toast from buns I do this now, once again I didn't think outside the box on this one. 🤯
I always doubled my sauce when my kids were growing up. Now that we’re empty nesters, a single batch is more than enough for one dinner and freezer leftovers😉
Also makes a great pizza sause
I think using canned tomatoes is totally homemade. Fresh tomatoes are wonderful when in season otherwise I think canned is preferable. Great video as usual! Thank you 😊
Thank you, Nikki!
Me too!
I just love your videos... and of course your jokes 🤣
Haha! Thank you!
Hey Mindy! I hope you had a lovely Easter Sunday. I love this idea of DIY spaghetti sauce! I have enjoyed all the seasonings you make and have completely been making them . I think this is a fantastic idea of using up our stockpile of tomatoes.
Great tips and tricks. If I could only have one food for the rest of my life, Spaghetti is right up there as my first choice!!
Watching from South Africa! Xxx
I eat spaghetti a lot too. It’s so inexpensive and easy plus I love the taste😊
Those twists look excellent! Not yet available in my country. (Pizza base in a can)
I love pasta in all forms 🍝 😋
I love your jokes!!
Thank you for the great idea on pizza crust
I would totally add mushrooms to marinara sauce...love me some mushrooms!
Hello kristi
@@thomassmith6344 Hello Thomas!
@@uberLeafsFan hi good morning how are you ?
@@thomassmith6344 I am ok, How are you doing?
@@uberLeafsFan I am fine I hope you had a wonderful day ?
I started experimenting with the shiritake noodles last year. They are pretty budget friendly and I always make sure I have some on hand. I like the ramen noodle ones and make my own ramen broth. Then add whatever veggies you like. You can have it with meat, chicken is my favorite, or make it meatless.
My kids like to make themselves meals like this too.
Hello I also make garlic knots with can biscuits but I use a muffin tin😊
Hey Mindy👋 ❤️❤️. Looking forward to the video! Love me some spaghetti!!
Me, too! It’s a classic for a reason, I think.
@@SeeMindyMom Absolutely 🥰
I use breakfast sausage in spaghetti sauce for flavor so good
Good ideas
The sauce just add to cooked hamburger add seasoning stir ready to go don't need to cook it for long at all
Thank you great ideas
We always had crumbled ground beef in the sauce, not meat balls. I can't imagine spaghetti without meat. And my mom mixed it all together in one big bowl, not sauce served on top.mmmmm😊
Thank you for another great video.
Do you have any chili recipes that don’t break the bank with all the ingredients.
Perfect video to watch when I eat a lasagne made out of leftover spaghetti bolognese from yesterday :D
Sounds delicious!
My family has no special food needs. But they love to eat green beans. I usually cook 2 bags of steamable store brand frozen green beans (so I have left overs for my daughter to take to school) with a about 2 Tbsp of butter, 1 tsp of salt, & 1/2 cup of water & steam 1st & then sauté until it reaches the tenderness we prefer. I have found that those steam bags are tastiest cooked on the stove with my seasonings & those bags take my way of cooking quicker & easier that a regular bag of frozen veggies. Once tender I add an additional 3 Tbsp of butter, 2 Tbsp brown sugar, & a small handful of almond slices and mix it up until well combined & then I add about 1/3 to 1/2 a bag of olive garden croutons to a zip lock bag & and crsh them with my meat mallot & add to the top of my green Beans
They also like 2 cans of cream corn, 1 can whole kernal corn drained (I retain the water for later), 3 Tbsp butter, salt to taste, cooked in a skillet. Until the whole kernal are tender. If it ever gets to the point I think it is going to burn I add a splash of that corn water instead of plain water. It keeps the corn more flavorful than plain water.
My last & is most favorite side in the place of the cream corn is corn on the cob. I layer it in a microwave safe bowl, each ear gets 2 Tbsp of warm water poured over it, then a pat of butter is added to each piece & then the next layer is add off center of the last piece. Which leaves gaps over most of the ear below it. Then I top it with plastic wrap. And I cook it in the microwave according to the directions on the bag. I even look on the internet at green giant & get their cook times. I do not add salt until after it has cooked & I also add more butter once cooking has been completed.
I hated spaghetti for the longest time because my mom made it so much lol. Now it's part of our routine since 3 of my 4 kids like it. I doctored up a recipe from my uncle that is sooo good! I don't have the freezer space anymore for it though - and I refuse to make a smaller batch.
Can you halve the recipe so it doesn’t make as much? 3/4 kids liking something is definitely a win in my book! 2/3 here means it goes in the regular rotation! 😊
@@SeeMindyMom poor Brick and those potatoes. 😅
Hey Mindy,
One of my problems I run into is portions. Running out of food when I serve my family. We are a family of 5. There have been many a times where I run out of food!
In this video you using 1/2 of the ground turkey and sauce mix really didn't look like a whole lot to serve your family. Most of the time I don't have left overs.
I guess I'm asking what am I doing wrong to run out of the dinner I have prepared? I make sure all plates are equal, I too like to fix a side with spaghetti. Italian green beans, fruit or a salad.
It's definitely frustrating when I run out of the Donner I fixed. 😊
@mindy One time at work the owner mentioned they’d eaten at ‘The Spaghetti Factory’ the night before and my boss said they’d had spaghetti too. We’d had it as well but I didn’t even chime in because I didn’t wanna sound like a front runner haha… We don’t use meat, it’s kidney beans in the sauce, but imho it’s the same thing. I LOVE that you’re sharing how to mix up spices instead of buying pre-made packets, less salt and more flavor as well as budget friendly.
That sounds like a great meal I’ll try that
We loved your video! Great spaghetti ideas! 🙂
Brown lentils are a great cheap vegan/vegetarian addition!
I’m making some of those this week for another video, but I’m freezing some to throw into sauces later!
And cheaper then meat for us.
Wow awesome video love love love it, thank you so much for sharing this and for all you do and by the way I think you are so hilarious and comical and thank you for making me laugh and making me smile and appreciate all that you do God bless you🙏👍💛
Jimmy dean hot sausage is great also
Looks delicious!
Ahhh spaghetti dinner. My kids request it weekly.
I love spaghetti squash!!
Auntie no nos seasoning I love it...
💚
Well, now I have to make spaghetti! 🙄🤣 My mother made the world's best spaghetti. Sadly she is gone now. I asked for it every year on my birthday for dinner. Sometimes my meat sauce turns out better than others. Does anyone know why? Probably because I don't measure anything. lol Thanks, @See Mindy Mom!
Hello Kimberley
