I just received a delivery order through Amazon from whole foods and the only reason I was able to afford it was bc they offered $20 off plus free delivery. Anyone who has Amazon prime, definitely keep an eye out for those offers. Even instacart offers coupons periodically.
I've really been using what I already have to flesh out my weekly meal plans. I've had minimal purchases over several weeks in December saving- no lie- over $400. I've decided to buy things in bulk at my local discount store and, when I find my pantry stuffed, we'll have a "use what ya got" week which might produce weird meals, but oh well! It's time to save some dinero! 😁
I always call Whole Foods, Whole Paycheck because that’s how it feels to shop there 😅. I love this video idea though. I may have to check out Whole Foods again in the future. Thanks Mindy!
@FLTW I thought the same thing but recently I was at Whole Foods to return an Amazon purchase and noticed the prices are much lower. Ya don’t see all the brands that regular grocery stores carry but it seems like good quality at fair prices now. 🤷🏻♀️
And coming from a European country I find many of the markets here appalling. The quality is poor and lots of processed junk. I love Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Aldi.
I think with inflation, I am shocked to see how the used to be whole paycheck store now can seem a lot more affordable in certain items…. Funny how things might work in this environment
For me I have found that the more expensive the store is the more sales and store specials I find which helps me get higher quality items for a price I can afford
Hi Mindy, I boil the chicken carcass and used the stock for a third meal, like stew or soup. Usually my second meal is tortillas or pasta. I have been able to buy large bags of dried beans and cook in my instant pot. Also I buy basmati rice in the international aisle, like the beans I find it cheaper then the rice and beans in the generic aisle. Love your videos.
Mindy, I'd love to see you do a budget meal plan using Instacart, Walmart pickup, or Target pickup to shop! Maybe a comparison for which is the best option for people who can't or don't want to go into the store to shop?
I adore frozen broccoli way more than fresh. Roast those lovely green trees in salt, pepper, and other seasonings of choice. Drizzle with a fat of choice, and roast. I will eat a whole bag to myself 😂
Love your videos. Such good tips. And you always have su h tasty and inventive recipes. You mentioned needing a game plan with what you purchase so it doesn't spoil. May I add a suggestion, learn how to preserve. Growing up on the farm where we raised, grew, and harvested 90% of our food, I spent a lot of my late summer early fall learning how to can, dehydrate, smoke, and properly freeze everything. And it came in handy when I could barely make rent month to month. I would buy many fruits and veggies when they were at give away prices and put them in the freezer. Like when 10lb bags of potatoes where .99 a bag before thanks giving. I would buy 2 or 3 and then freeze or dehydrate them. Buy up all the veggies on the verge of going bad and freeze or dehydrate them. You just need to know the proper technique. Dehydrator, vacuum sealer, and canning supplies where some of my most useful gifts from family.
went to whole foods for first time before christmas (in another town, nothing local). OOOOOO I'm in love. Frozen vegetables are better than the fresh available. When it's locally in season, yes, fresh is best. I have loved vegetables all my life and frozen is delicious...
I feel the same way about white pasta for my kids. They prefer it. I understand the fiber/whole grain benefits but they like the white and will eat it better. I’ll just add more veggies to those pasta dishes :)
I've noticed produce sections are struggling in my city, no matter the store. Nothing looks very fresh so remember to shop local too! Farmers markets run through winter here in Michigan
I was planning a trip to Whole Foods tomorrow. They have the cheapest price on tofu, their 365 brand is at least $2 less than any other store in my area. Eggs! Yikes, I’m still shocked they are $3.44 at the Aldi near me in NE Ohio.
I loved bulk bins when I was single and on a tight budget. Especially spices, I could get a tbsp of things for Pennie’s. Sometimes getting a small amount just fits the budget better.
I love getting the bulk seasonings also. Sometimes the person would go to weigh it and then just put it in the cart saging it didnt weigh enough to even worry with it.
Hi Mindy! I had a video idea for you. The concept of budget cooking can include not only the cost of the ingredients but also the cost of preparing it. For example, with energy costs rising and having to spend more money heating our homes in the winter, we could try to save money using our crock pots, instant pots, single electric burner, or even microwave instead of the oven/stove. A comparison of the energy cost for a week’s worth of meals using the different energy sources might be interesting.
A lot of great tips- haven't been to whole foods in quite some time-I seem to always get in trouble picking up random things that are expensive but sound good
Eggs were cheaper at my whole foods too! They just increased the prices like all the other stores but I took advantage of whole food eggs for a few weeks.
I love frozen veggies. They last long and don't go to waste. I love the tips even in an expensive store. Going over your original budget is just real life! Thanks and Happy New Year to you and your family.
I use frozen peas and beans but I tend to use non-frozen brocolli. I find that frozen brocolli seems watery, but that is not an issue if it is being roasted, or with a sauce over it, which is how I prefer brocolli anyway. Thank you for the video!
We love frozen vegetables! One of my kiddos currently doesn't care much for to many veggies but she loves steamed broccoli currently 😍 I haven't been to a whole foods before but maybe one day! You definitely proved budget shopping can be accomplished even at stores that are known for being on the expensive side 🙂
Going into the new year, with lots of us trying to lose weight or just eat healthier, I would love to see how to do this on a budget. Over the last 2 years of eating healthier and losing weight ,my grocery bill sky rocketed! Help!
Whole Foods has felt incredibly unattainable for me as a college student. I much prefer Trader Joes for specialty items and Walmart for everything else.
I always think Whole Foods is Expensive...but you did very well Mindy. I have never been in Whole Foods...but I will give it a try. I tend to go to different places, because certain items like you said are cheaper. Thank you so much for the Great Tips. God Bless you and your family abd have a Healthy, and Happy New Year! ❤Kelly
They often have items CHEAPER than our local Freddy’s & Safeway!! And, toss in food needs for allergens/diseases - they only carry the items. We love Whole Foods for a segment of our grocery needs!!

This is great! I just went thru our local grocery store- with your list online- to see the cost and it was around $42- I love this! Thanks :) I am going to share in my Frugal Living group :)
It's great that you can eat affordably at WF. Their stores are very much out of the way for me, so I work with the stores that I pass on the way home from my job because our monthly gas budget is sometimes equal to our food budget. Thankfully, Aldi is one of them.
Vegan oatmeal pancakes. These are my son’s favourite over waffles . Bonus…GF so I can have some too. We use the vegan camping pancake mix: From my bowl. Delicious, easy and great if your kids aren’t fans of oatmeal in traditional form. They freeze well too
I don't get why people say that about Whole Foods. One I value quality over quantity hence I avoid Walmart at all costs. Whole Foods 365 store brand is excellent, the quality is always spot on. Don't buy processed foods and it's no different.
The potato poppers are a dupe of what I was served in rural Kansas school lunch 1996-2011. The crispy/smooth texture is nice, but they don't taste like potatoes. I usually gave them away. Funny they are showing up in a higher end retail store.
Treats are so important. I go for flavor bombs--the fancy 95 percent cocoa lindt bars. I can't eat more than half a square at a time, but I don't want to, either. Still baffled that my nearest 'fancy' grocery store screwed up frozen blueberries (sour, unripe) and red beans and rice mix (salt). Great Value is a better risk, barring certain outliers (frozen pizza unless they've added some sort of flavor to it).
I usually use Aldi Instacart since I currently am without a vehicle. I ordered on 12/20.....eggs were $5.09 per dozen......needless to say, we did not have traditional deviled eggs for Christmas & there will be no breakfast burritos either for a while.
So i just both both of the capaule meal books. Im getting ready for the new year, new budget. Goal to save money for a vacation to the beach this year.
