Diesel vehicles may put out a lot of visible smoke but they are much more enviromentally friendly comparer to gasoline engines. The black smoke are particles that just land on the ground.

Its a mechanical odometer(w124 v8 excluded) with a connection on the Tansmission. If the Transmission spins the Odometer will spin too.
well burnouts do cause wear on the car (and a lot more than the extra "distance" traveled during the burnout) so we can just say it cancels out ;)
