    Nice! I came across this in my recommendations and it reminded me of my childhood. My grand-mother had been a milliner for Haute Couture in her youth and I learnt to do this as a child as soon as I could hold a needle.

    Thank you for the indepth tips. I love the bubble kind of brim on you hat. Thats something I'd love to learn.

      Thank you Sue! These are my favourite type of hat shapes at the moment. There's nothing much I can teach you here - it's just about finding the right kind of hat block. For this beautiful teal vintage peach bloom fur felt beret, I used the block "CB163 Beret Block" from Guy Morse-Brown (not sponsored!) . This was a complete nightmare to get off the block though! Alternatively you can combine a ring block and the rounded top of a standard crown. I would encourage you to be brave and just give it a go 😀

    Fantastic video, it's the first video I've seen of how to sew the ribbon, and it's very well explained, thanks.

    Hi, Would this band be used as a hat band too, or would you insert a hatband separately? Yours, Ann

    • @ByIlonaMillinery
      @ByIlonaMillinery  2 года назад +1

      Hi Ann, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Yes, petersham ribbon is normally used on the inside of a hat band to set a headsize, but without being folded over. This edge binding technique can be used on the edges of brims too.

      @@ByIlonaMillinery Thank you that was what i was wondering about. If you would have had to use a hatband in this hat that would have been set in separately, am I getting that right? Yours, Ann

      @@annlidslot8212 this isn't a headsize hat, as it perches on top of the head. Therefore it doesn't have a hat band at all.

       @Ilona Dyomkina Hi, Yes I got that part. What I'm asking about is a hypothetical. I'll keep on going through your videos and those by SHMillenery, maybe the answer to my hypothetical will will turn up. It's not that important, really.
      My here and now problem is, where can I get my hands on a button block, some clear brim reed and some stiffener (and finish a dress I'm making) ? All that before we leave for Stockholm on Tuesday (we live in Gothenburg 5 hours drive away). And with the body I'm working with only working for about 6 hours per week due to some medical issues, that are absolutely no fun.The rest I have to spend resting in on my bed. (I can't recommend whiplash injuries for any one, not even the light injuries, but especially the lie changing ones, even if mine happened 25 years ago) The driving will eat up some of those 6 hours per week. Something makes me suspect that I'm lucky if I can get the dress done. I'm very new to sewing too. Yous, Ann

    So the purpose of this task is to make and attach the finish binding to the hat interior? Does the felt provides cushioning? But I don’t see the felt as you sew the ribbon to the hat. Where did it go?

    • @ByIlonaMillinery

      Hi Jim, the purpose of this task is to finish the edge of a hat. Usually every hat will need an edge finish, either as a design choice but also it can be used to hide a wire that is there to hold the shape of the hat in place. The hat in this example is itself made of felt. If you are asking where the white piece of felt went: that was just my small demo piece as it is easier to show you how to do this on a felt that isn't a formed hat - just for camera angle purposes.

    Hello, I’m trying to what we refer to as “binding” a cowboy hat. I tried it already, but failed miserably. I’m not giving up. Thank you for the insight. Love your accent..

      Hello Chato! Thank you for watching my video 😊 I am afraid I know nothing about cowboy hats, but I hope you find the answer that you are looking for ❤️
