I still have my grandmother's black velvet pillbox hat. It's almost 70 years old because she's wearing it in a pix taken at her son's wedding on Christmas Day 1954. I've always wanted to make a reproduction. Now I know ALL the how to's. Thanks!

I think the veiling gives is another era option. Very 50's on its own. My mum had several! I'm 72 and remember all her clothes of that time, she always had a hat to match, much like the pillbox you've made, without the veil. LOVE!

I already use combs in my pillbox hats, but would like to know more about the tabs that you use on the sides of yours. Where can I find them? I am in the US. Could I substitute pipe cleaner loops? The side combs are difficult to use, thus my hats tend to sit a bit cattywampus on my poor, scratched head. I am about to hem a vintage boucle skirt, and want to make a domed pillbox hat from the off cuts...mayhap even a clutch purse. I do enjoy your informative videos! Oh, could I use muslin instead of dumet? Impossible to find in Western North Carolina. Thank you!

Thanks Ilona, I'm starting to make hats and you are of great help. Buckram is the material I would like to work with but the art of hats is a world there are so many possibilities. Can I know how many cm in circumference did you make these 5 pillboxes? thank you and thank you again for the time you dedicate to us, you are unique.

Where are your links to your patreon acct? Thankyou for not repeating obvious steps...i love construction videos of vintage fashion etc, but get unnecessarily long. What youve done is focus of tips for tricky bits - the tape over the ends of the comb was genius - and a "how did I not think of that myself " moment!!! Well done video! I started off in milinery doing Victorian hats and bonnets about 15 years ago - and i was addictted! And altho I specialise in Victorian, Im making more 20th C ones now for events where I can wear them. All my life Ive adored hats and worn them even when theyre not fashionable, but even fancy headbands make great substitutes.

Thank you for your lovely comment - I had exactly the same reaction to the tape on the comb when another millinery showed it to me! Victorian hats are so lovely - they are definitely on my "to make" list! 😊
