    I've run a Ebac dehumidifier now for the last 7 years, going just as well as the day I bought it with next to no house condensation despite drying clothing indoors and relatively poor double glazing.
    Several close family have now swapped to ebac after other brands failed after very short periods of time.
    I wouldn't hesitate to buy a ebac washing machine when the time comes to replace my miele, personally I'd sooner support a British product and I like the thought you have put into energy saving and design.
    Keep doing your thing.

    Totally agree with John Elliot. I’ve bought an Ebac 4850 and use it on “Smart Control” all the time as it gets it exactly right throughout the day. Condensation is a thing of the past in our house now and it only took 3 or 4 days to get there.

    Have had the Ebac 6 series dehumidifier for years.
    Well head one for a 1 1/2 years, I got home to a weird smell and an oil type leak on the floor, I called customer service and Pamala Petty took the call, at the time I think she was in charge of customer service, she said they would collect my old unit inspect it and get back to me.
    After they inspected it they offered to pay for any damage to my floor, (there wasn't any visible damage) and they replaced the unit, that was nearly 7 years ago, the unit they replaced has been used daily filters changed every 6 months and I've never had a problem with it.
    Pamela set standards that only other customer services can aspire to.
    John's explanation is spot on about electric and the smart technology it's a case of set and forget.

    Had my Ebac dehumidifier homedry for over 32 years and still going strong
    Built in West Auckland and inspected by Neville Brewster UK
    Its a great machine and served us well
    I wonder if your new plastic ones will be around in thirty years time
    Proud that these are still built on my doorstep in County Durham

    I've used Ebac dehumidifiers continually for 12 years and I wouldn't buy any other brand. My original 2 series Ebac dryer is still going strong and I bought the Smart Control 3850e as an additional unit. Both are superb pieces of kit and worth every penny.
    As an ex-Durham lad these products make me proud.

    Excellent point about over dehumidifying. If the air is drier inside than out, the house will literally pull moisture in from outside to regain equilibrium.

    • @jimirons833
      @jimirons833 Год назад

      Obviously this is true if you have no insulation or barriers to moisture ingress. Humidity in a British winter will always be generally high so that means it’s no use having them in winter. I have to disagree

    Hello Mr Elliot.
    I just so happened to order a Meaco abc 12l yesterday (the which recommended one).
    Having watched this video, you make some valid points. I was under the impression Which actually tested these units themselves.
    Your Argo by Ebac 15l was on sale for a very similar price at Argos, so I'm picking up tomorrow.
    Will leave some feedback here in a few days. Nice to see that you make them in the UK .
    Jack.

    I stopped relying on UK Which reports 25y ago, I have looked at a few magazines since and found the reports are unhelpful and often seem to explore only expensive solutions.
    I would say I have the same feeling about Amazon reviews.
    My main use of a dehumidifier is to dry the washing.
    I liked the old box units from around 1994ish very few fancy components easy to fix.
    Just had a Desiccant Meaco unit fail 3 months after the 3y guarantee. Had to revert to an old compressor type.

    Ebac are the best for damp problems a lot of people give negative reviews because they have bought a lesser machine than they need either a mistake or financial reasons so give a lower report Ebac does severe damp and controls mould but I do go one up than I needed a 21 L at the top of the 3.000 range. to get that result. I would not replace mine with another brand now as Ebax works for me.

    I was once told by an employee in a big name shop that sold televisions not to set too much store by Which? reports. He made the universal sign for backhanders received. We still take the magazine for the purpose of testing out this theory. For all their declarations of neutrality and independence its quite remarkable how companies fall in and out of favour. For a long time Panasonic were the blue eyed boys for many of their varied products, then they fell out of favour and Samsung became popular, etc etc.
    Nothing I'm seeing convinces me categorically that the guy was incorrect in his implication. There are some products for which it's sensible to have a multi-customer point of view but for something like a dehumidifier where a degree of scientific understanding of its operating process and standards thereof is required then assessments by users is clearly inadequate. So far I've been finding the Which? electric vehicle reviews to be steeped in a similar sort of ignorance, although they are gradually improving but ts slow and inconsistent.
    We plan on looking at Ebac for our next white good purchase, great to discover a UK based company. 👍

Ive used dehumidifiers for 30 years now i started with a delongi which was good but kept going faulty several replacements later i tried other brands same issues then i bought a EBAC and never looked back !! I personally like to have a one upstairs and a one downstairs running in smart mode !! zero damp/condensation I run it along side a dyson air purifier and never have to have the windows open which keeps my heating bills a lot lower !!! EBACS are fantastic and MADE IN BRITAIN !!!! support the UK people!!!!!!

    I rather regret buying a dehumidifier recently from another brand with a Which recommendation (although my specific model wasn't reviewed) before I knew about Ebac (I also really like the made in Britain philosophy).
    The dehumidifier is decently effective but it's on almost all the time and costs significantly more to run than the typical 45p a day an Ebac would cost according to the website.

    I live in gd flr Victorian flat conversion . Purchased the EBAC smart one shown here 6 years ago . The container is a white one . All good for first couple of years . Then the door was a p I ta to close ,and a part may have broken off . I normally start using it around November time and through the winter months .
    I have been using it for about a week this year ( aug-sept in uk) . I noticed this afternoon that there was a bit of a smell, and the carpet was wet in a part of the hallway . I took the container out which was massively over full and the red light should have come on but didn't . I then of course emptied it and could see lots of black wet mold inside the container . I used flash wipes, and the container is now sitting in bleach and white vinegar . Flat smells like a chip shop 😺. I may leave overnight and clean with washing up liquid tomorrow , or later on this evening . Fingers crossed it works properly after this . I have changed filter last year and am trying to find one somewhere in the flat . 2 questions ; 1) have I started using the unit too early which is causing the problem? 2) Does this unit control the whole flat ( 2 bed gd floor ) ?
    Thanks .

      Good Morning Raymond,
      It is up to you when you start using your dehumidifier, obviously it will work better in the colder weather, but it also depends on the damp and condensation in your property, as for the unit covering your whole flat it should as long as the doors are kept ajar and the dehumidifier is placed in a central spot. I hope your water container is sorted, if it does not work properly then it may need a repair, we would need the serial number so we can check the warranty on your unit.

      @@Ebacltd Good morning , and thanks for your advice and quick reply to my concerns . It is the sign of a good company .
      Okay, first thing regarding the door problem ; it is now removed . It just refuses to go back on. With the age of my unit , I'd assume the warranty has long since expired . I do still have the manual , and it was purchased from the Amazon so it would be on my purchase list somewhere . The unit works as it should now , having monitoring it over the weekend .
      The unit clicked overnight when full ,and the red light was indicated . All good .
      Regarding placement of the unit ; most of the time it has been in the main bedroom . It does have a damp proof course fitted onto one of the walls I found out in my building survey when purchasing the flat . Most of the time my windows have been closed , due to Buddleia and other plants outside the windows in both the front room and main bedroom.
      Not a fan of spiders 🕷️🕷️I do have the trickle vents open( not that that makes much difference)
      I do have all of the internal doors open at all times -even the kitchen where I have a washer/ dryer and cook.
      Both the kitchen and bathroom have extractor fans but no windows. No problems there , but I sometimes get a little mold in main bedroom ( now used as home office/ hobby room ) . A flash wipe now and again helps .
      Good information for you , and it would be nice to hear of any more comments / advice you may have .
      Thanks very much 😺

    The problem with the smart control is the humidity sensor is placed at the top of the unit where the heat of the compressor collects, it is also on the same PCB as the triac (which gets warm), so as soon as the unit starts running the sensor is seeing relative humidity drop, not because moisture is being removed, but because the temperature has risen. When we had one of these so called smart dehumidifiers, it shut of too soon, usually only running for the minimum allowed run time as set by the microcontroller to stop too much cycling of the compressor (6 minutes I think), and in that few minutes it had barely started to cool enough to condense much water. What little water was collected on the evaporator started to, well evaporate, and then it would raise the humidity inside the unit. So we basically had a dehumidifier and so called smart control just cycling the thing on for 6 minutes off for 6 minutes. It also used the cheapest and least accurate and slow to respond humidity sensor. I would suggest something like a Bosch BME280 sited somewhere lower in the unit (most mobile phones have one of these!), or place it in front of the air intake so the unit could turn the fan on and sample the air for an accurate humidity reading. It could then be really smart as the pressure reading from the same part could be used to predict the likely hood of bad weather or storm conditions, and have the unit favour lower humidity levels for a while due to an increased chance of wet weather, so getting ahead of any humidity issues. Then you could get away calling it Smart. As it stands the design of these dehumidifies is poor in my opinion, there is nothing innovative about them, with some complicated patent being used to call the units "Smart" which is of no use whatsoever if the humidity and temperature readings used as inputs are skewed all the time by the unit itself. I would love to buy and support a UK company, but these units are over hyped, they are not anything special, and have design flaws. As for suggesting they are designed for the UK market, well the one we got to replace the so called Smart one from Ebac was made in Japan (Mitsubishi), not made for any particular market, and it works better than the Ebac ever did. It also dries washing so much better as it has a quiet but powerful fan and louvres that can direct a nice jet of air at washing. The fan in the Ebac hardly moved any air at all!
    Perhaps Ebac should take on board what Which is saying rather than try and justify the poor results by suggesting they are built for the UK market and they are somehow specially made to work worse! Knowing how these things are built and my observations on the poor humidity sensor placement, I think Which are probably correct, and Ebac need to go back to the drawing board and fix the issues.

    • @ashcross
      @ashcross Год назад

      Could the Smart Control sensor factor in the temperature at the top of the unit? Perhaps it makes allowances for its own design. I find that my Ebac is pretty good, though I've admittedly not used a wide range of other models to compare properly.

    • @leegilbert7551
      @leegilbert7551 Год назад +1

      The temperature/humidity sensor on the 4000 series is now located on the back of the dehumidifier in front of the condenser behind the filter.
      If anything, now the opposite effect is true, whereas it seemingly runs constantly (in my experience) that I think manually setting the humidity makes more economical sense to keep it below 55% and manually adjust as required!
      My 4650 dehumidifier is reporting ~50% humidity (end of November), ambient temperature ~17c during day (no heating), ~18-19c evening (heating) and ~17 overnight again (no heating) and only turns off very infrequently and for a small duration of time~10minutes later.

    • @ashcross
      @ashcross Год назад

      @@leegilbert7551 Very interesting perspective. I also find that mine doesn't switch off much, despite even getting the humidity down to 47%. I might have to do this manually instead, as you suggest.

      @@ashcross My reply was deleted, in reply to yours as I included a link to their patent for the smart control.
      I'm glad it's not just me that's experiencing this issue.
      The sensor is located right by a cold, wet compressor that I think is conversely skewing the 'Smart' sensor.

    • @ashcross
      @ashcross Год назад

      @@leegilbert7551 It would be interesting to get Ebac's take on this. I've now put mine into standby and will activate it once my humidity rises again. I will probably save quite a bit of money.
