This video is part one of two summarizing the renovation on a 9,000 house so far. I've been working on it for a long time and thought it a good idea to do an all in one at this point to draw in new viewers as well as remind others where we started. I have also been wanting to do a major Q&A from all the comments over the years so I combined them into this video. Ask your questions and I'll answer the rest in the next video. Thanks.

What's wrong with being naturally nocturnal? It's not like you're punching a time clock. The right time to do something when you're working for yourself is whenever you WANT to. There's no right or wrong time, as long as you can safely get it done, and you aren't trying to deprive yourself of sleep just because you think you gotta be up at "X"am because everyone ELSE is.
Take it from another, (much) OLDER nocturnal person, there's NO reason to conform to what "THEY" think. As long as you're considerate, you do YOU. (Just don't expect THEM to be considerate of YOU, that's NOT gonna happen! 🙄🤷)

My all-time favorite little scene from this renovation is when a hand holding a sledgehammer comes down from a hole in the ceiling to give that block of concrete "Just one more whack!" Love it!

I am just a couple years older than you with three kids and we have gained a lot of entertainment value over the years watching you and I have often pointed to you as a role model for myself and for my children. Thanks for your positive, family friendly content.

That is rough, I had a handful of reasons for making this video, I was reviewing old videos and how I edited them, wanted to do a video to draw in new viewers, wanted to do a reminder of how rough the house was but I was also sick recently and have not worked on the house in almost 2 months. Being sick was rough, I was down and could not do anything and thought I was done for but once I was able to sit up, the boredom set in and while I'll take bored over nausea, I also enjoyed many long RUclips videos and movies. I'm glad to be contributing to your amusement. Get well and be careful.

Ha, sometimes you get lucky but you go through a lot of blades. Circular saw blades can take a few hits and sawzall blades can handle more but neither can handle square cut nails which old houses are full of. When you hit them it just breaks the carbide off circular blades and stops everything else.

Won't use a birdbox and too big to fit in the bluebird box. Don't think a bluebird would like a box that low near high grass. Maybe a wren or tree swallow.

Has anyone near your properties caught on to the fact that you own most of the ones in the area and have been renovating them one at a time? Does a neighbor ever stop and ask questions? I have a lot to do and I’m im sitting here watching this video. I’m never to to feel relaxed about that. I wish I could. I wish I could live like that and just go with the flow and do things when I do the them - like he’s describing how he live his life- and not feel guilty all the time.

@@justmemuchlove8275 I'm the same way, you're not alone. I feel anxious and guilty if I'm not doing what I feel like I need to. I can't sit around all day like a lot of people do, I feel as if I'm wasting my life away.
It's better for me if of all the things I need to do, I do what I feel like doing out of all those things. I'm more productive that way. Does that make sense? I don't like feeling as if I'm pressured to do one specific thing. Sometimes you have to, but your stress levels are greatly reduced by doing what you feel like the rest of the time.

I am retiling the bathroom and putting in a walk-in shower because I have difficulty getting in and out of the bath but, I get frustrated at times, the things I want to do but my girlfriend will not let me do. Last year I redid the guttering and replaced the soffits and a few tiles at the back of the house, this year she want let me the front of the house or get up a ladder or work from the scaffold tower because she is frightened, I might have a fall. My son does not help by saying he will do it as I should not be doing things like that, but I am not ready to be plonked in an old chair and given the TV remote to watch hundreds of channels of rubbish and things I do not like. You have been asked how you know what to do, and yet it is easier to find out about anything you are not sure of with the internet and you tube. You keep making your videos and I will keep watching them (in between tiling the bathroom)

I LOVE your videos, you do NOT talk too much and you provide great information. I enjoy watching all the work you do, your talent knows no limits! People criticizing have too much time on their hands (IMO) Keep doing what you're doing, it's working! Thank you!

You make a lot of sense when you talk, plus you have a hilarious sense of humour. Your likeability is high which, imo, is the reason for your RUclips success. All the best.

An artist buys a house, "....a simple renovation....". A cast of one. Plans were made, mistakes were made. An archeological exploration of insane construction, things carried loads they should not, things supposed to carry loads, did not. Walls were made. Walls were unmade. Heartbreak and Joy. A landscaping truck. Death defying acts of construction. The spiraling of Costs. And of course, we all were fraught with the evil and mysterious "concrete block" ( RIP ).

This has been a nice way to catch up on what you’ve been up to the last year or so. I’ve been less active on RUclips in the same timeframe, so this was nice to see. The amount of work you’ve put into this house in comparison to the previous houses is bananas.

Also I want to say that I thoroughly enjoy the length of your videos and the "real-talk" sessions. You don't sugar coat anything or cater to any one type. This is you and how you operate, and I appreciate it. Too much fake news out there among the influencer explosion. It's nice to be able to sit and enjoy content created by someone that is keeping it real all while showing "a way" to do the things you're doing.

Still a fan 3 years in now!! Sometimes I fall asleep to the rambling 😂🤣😂 but more often I find motivation in your videos.
Please don’t stop. I think you’re so unique and quirky. I wish I had your confidence. I definitely admire how you just grab the bull by the horns.

First: Congratulations on your family and success.
Questions: What tools do you use the most for the work you do?
Do you buy them, rent them?
Would you do the same if you were to start again?
Wishing you and yours the best and looking forward to your videos. Thanks.

Your work ethic combined with your temperament are amazing to observe. What a monumental amount of work went into this house. My favorite picture is you with your shoulder to the big concrete block in the basement and your feet against a wall as you pushed that block. That was a good laugh. Excellent choice of music, btw. Can hardly wait for the next episode.

Man, since I subscribed to your channel, i've moved from a big big house, bought a smaller one and two departments, that I fixed my self for renting. So Yes, it is possible and feasable. Just turn your mind into production mode. Thank you.

I'm quick to click on your videos when I get the alert. Watching you work is mesmerizing, and I love hearing your perspective in your Carolina (my guess!) drawl. I chuckled about the working at night comment. Being married to a workaholic myself, I have sometimes wondered if your wife gives you a hard time, although it's none of my business.

Once I commented that his accent was different from word usage, so I think it's an area where the SE and Appalachia meet. I told him my mental map triangle was between St Louis, Louisville, and Norfolk. His response was that he's within 90 miles of one of those cities! We don't actually need to know 😉.

@@joantrotter3005 good assessment. He once mentioned it was a coastal state, so of those three I’d guess Norfolk and he’s in North Carolina. Additionally, he’s a furniture builder with mad skills. That part of the country used to be the furniture capital of the country. I remember as a child driving from town to town with my parents searching for the perfect set of dining chairs. There was a factory in every town. So sad to know that’s all in China now. I bet he’s got family descended from those craftsmen.

So glad to watch your videos. I have stuck by and watch everyone of them. Love that ya have everything put in your place for the cost of living and not show off like "see what I have" too many have that attitude and act so rich in reality they aren't and are more in debt and some others.
