Love the 870! I've owned both Mossberg and Remington over the years, but used the 870 professionally for nearly three decades. Before that, we used the S&W 3000 professionally before the 870 took over. We have two wingmasters (one with a Hogue pistol grip and foreend) and a tactical. My go to shotgun.
Im sure they used a hand ingraving tool. They were all the rage then. People were told to put that in their firearms, knives, traps, ect. When i grew up it was the ithaca model 37 and the remington 870.
Word of caution: take care of the ejectors on the old blued models. I found out the hard way that if it breaks, the rivet on the receiver has to be drilled out, new part riveted back in, and then the receiver re-blued. 😢 Mossbergs have their ejectors held in with a philips screw making it a 5 minute kitchen table repair. 😅
I only have one shotgun and it was a birthday present and first firearm at 16, its a Mossberg 500, however its only a 20-gauge, the shot gun has sentimental value to me, and though a 20-gauge can still get the job done, it is not an idea firearm for anything but bird hunting.
5:04 The numbers dropped because of the assault weapon ban. 1994 to 2004. The 870 wasn't specifically banned, but production slowed for guns in general during this time.
Remington quality went down the hill once the freedom group bought them out. And on newer 870’s for self defense first thing i do is get rid of the MIM extractor and get a tooled steel extractor and i put a stronger spring on the lifter and a stronger spring in the shell tube.

because it's classified as an AOW or "Any Other Weapon" (I think?) due to it having that vertical foregrip.
