Having lived in Hubbard Hall and on that campus for four years, nothing she said made sense. I think she was panicked and her story is a mess. I don't think she's lying, but I don't give any credit to her story at all. I believe her door was locked when she got there - most students lock their doors when not home. She also had the key to unlock it. And there are somewhere around 3,000 dorm rooms in that 4 dorm complex - the university would not be able to lock all those doors even if they wanted to. And why would they want to? I also believe the cafeteria workers were still working because they had probably been told that the shooter was about halfway across campus (nearly a mile) and they weren't in any danger at that time. All the police wanted from them was to stay put. It is safer, and they didn't want thousands of students all over the streets while they were trying to find a lone shooter.
It made no sense to me. I lived in Hubbard Hall - right by Akers - it is not near Berkey Hall or the Student Union where the shootings happened. Unless there was a 2nd shooter, if shots were reported there, it was in error. I do know that cops fanned out all over campus to tell people to shelter in place, so maybe they just panicked. And one thing that doesn't track is her claim that all the doors were locked. Locked how? And by whom? That complex has four big dorms with somewhere around 3,000 student rooms, and very few people with master keys. And WHY would they lock dorm rooms? And if her door was locked, she probably locked it when she left, and could just unlock it! It's not as if there was time to put padlocks on 3,000 doors!

Obviously I'm truly sorry for the kid, but it's so so sad that I, or anyone else, will immediately jump to the conclusion that there is a threat. Since what they reported makes absolutely no sense to someone like me who attended MSU and lived in Hubbard Hall, and since the actual shooter was about 3/4 of a mile away from Akers Hall, it seems to me, they were panicked. Their story made no sense - which is common when a person is in a panic. There were no shots fired near there, and if her dorm room was locked, it's probably because she locked it when she left. They don't have the people to lock the thousands of dorm rooms in that complex that fast, and if they did - she still has the key to UNLOCK it!

Fight or flight is a very powerful response. My heart goes out to these young kids. Back in my day it was a bomb threat. Its so sad this pervasive domestic terror.
They were not close to the scene of the shooting. The closest was nearly a mile away. That said, in the age of mass shootings, it would be easy for some to panic, and that alone can be traumatic. The fact that the cafeteria workers kept working tells you that police had told them there was no immediate danger in their area. But a manhunt would be much harder with thousands of students taking to the streets - so they wanted them to stay put.

Applauding this news team for allowing students to take cover in their van. Thank you for being good humans and part of the solution during a traumatic event!
For someone who says "I can't speak or even think right now" and still does like them, are still in fright, fight, traumatized mode. All Colleges/Universities need to provide "active shooter drills/procedures" for all their young adults students and faculty/staff.
Teach all students how to safely carry and use a firearm ...then let the ones carry if wanting to....right now they are told to "run, hide, and fight.".. really?.. that's the solution?
Gun free zones! A lot of those students probably have concealed carry permits and are not allowed to have their guns to protect themselves on school property
Yes because all around the world the other bad guys register their weapons so we all know the factual statistics of gun ownership. Stop it. I bet the guns HRC sold to the Lybians have all been counted huh?
How many people had a weapon to defend themselves and others 🤔 If people were armed when crap like this happens it wouldn't last very long and knowing this it would most likely discourage people from doing it in the first place. Arm yourselves folks, it could save your life and many others. 🙏

Such a moral breakdown in society! It's getting out of hand.
It’s actually already been out of hand for quite some time…😢

The worst has yet to come.
Break up the family, tell women to be masculine and men to be feminine, incentivize poor decisions, and wonder where things went wrong.

Teach your children to think. FIRST thing BLOCK doors. History shows that saves lives. Great girls did what they felt best for their safety.
Can't put that responsibility on students
My friend has gone to MSU and he was able to get through the doors without an ID by just forcing himself through. Blocking the doors isn’t helpful as you think. MSU is about to get a huge lawsuit
@@gvue4396 Ya let’s stand around waiting for a magical solution to come instead 😂
Or teach your children to not shoot at people?
I'll teach my kids to live in conservative cities or towns and how to protect themselves and what firearms are best for that.
If ever you are in a situation where there are shots fired, look for exits points. Doors, windows, bathrooms , fire exits. If you cannot exit, find a quiet place and keep low and quiet and call 911.
This is so important to always be aware of your surroundings and look for the closest exit .
My condolences to all the students . I hope the university give mental health support, because this can and does have a lifetime of PTSD.
On top of that I'd be armed.
1997 was when the school shooting happened at my school. I STILL feel like it was a dream and I’m going to wake up that morning on december 1. It’s been 25 years and a few months and it’s fresh every day.
Do you take measures to protect yourself and your family today? Having been in a traumatic situation where you was completely helpless, did that change your perspective on being your own savior? Or do you continue going about your day like nothing like that could ever happen and if it does someone else will come save you? Do you at least carry pepper spray?

How did they screw up?
Yeah mental health needs to be addressed. They will always find a way.
@jyoti Kumar yep thats the issue. It's not a gun issue, it's a people problem. But they don't want to address that issue because it burns them.
Heartbreaking 🙏🏾
I was in a mass shooting in 2019 at a festival. Freaking terrible experience that changes your brain chemistry forever.
US should first focus on their human rights instead of giving advice to others country, lucky i don't live in this country
Why aren’t people asking the questions that matter? Why does this keep happening in “gun free” zones?
It's obvious what's happened. The gun free zone sign wasn't big enough.
“Gun drills in high school” America is broken.
I saw the writing on the wall 10 years ago. I left America to go start a family. I would never raise my kids in a country where you dont know if they will get shot at school on a daily basis. Complete madness.
My kids do gun drills starting in kindergarten. And I’m in suburbs of Raleigh NC. Very sad.

This trauma will never leave them 😭😭💔😢
Applauding this news team for allowing students to take cover in their van. Thank you for being good humans and part of the solution during a traumatic event!
Sad news I found out that now 3 people are dead while 5 are hurt
For someone who says "I can't speak or even think right now" and still does like them, are still in fright, fight, traumatized mode. All Colleges/Universities need to provide "active shooter drills/procedures" for all their young adults students and faculty/staff.
You know that’s already a thing. Elementary school kids have to practice hiding in closets. Merica

US Army killing people around the world, in US the people killing each others every day.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Teach all students how to safely carry and use a firearm ...then let the ones carry if wanting to....right now they are told to "run, hide, and fight.".. really?.. that's the solution?
As the only country in the world that has more guns than people what could possibly go wrong?
Gun free zones! A lot of those students probably have concealed carry permits and are not allowed to have their guns to protect themselves on school property
Yes because all around the world the other bad guys register their weapons so we all know the factual statistics of gun ownership. Stop it. I bet the guns HRC sold to the Lybians have all been counted huh?

What is wrong with those shooters???? We need to stop giving them any attention.
How many people had a weapon to defend themselves and others 🤔 If people were armed when crap like this happens it wouldn't last very long and knowing this it would most likely discourage people from doing it in the first place. Arm yourselves folks, it could save your life and many others. 🙏
I take it at the time of this interview they had no clue 3 people was gone and 5 were as injured
Kids are going to have to consider home schooling and even online college if possible. This generation is in jeopardy. It's just too clear things are getting far worse than ever. You can thank bad parenting.. social media. They obviously want attention and don't think the consequences are that bad. and what we're hearing there is.. they are NOT! Their recollection is interesting, especially the part about the officer's directions to just lay open in a field, and the shots being 30 mins away and then just right outside in the courtyard. 1 suspect found, but sounds like this was a conducted effort of multiple suspects. Something isn't right.
Her brother called and said there was a shooter 30 mins away at another hall before anyone else knew.
So why were those doors already locked down at Ackers Hall when no one knew yet, and she couldn't get to her dorm for safety?
