I am living in Madrid since one year now and i thing it is the best city in Western Europe alongside London. The cultural life is amazing and if you miss the beaches there are highspeed trains to Valencia, Barcelona or Andalucia or you can take the plane to islas baleares. Update concerning the tourist crowds during Xmas and other holidays I m happy to leave in Chamberi far from the crowd and during holidays I rather prefer going to shop to Salamanca than to overcrowded Gran Via.
Madrid is a great city to live in 💗💗💗 I agree with all your points
I loved your video, thank you very much
Wohoooo! Thank you!
Great video! Madrid seems like a great city!
It was!
Madrid, mí amor ❤️
hahaha it is lovely!
Thanks for the video very informative. Planning to move from London sometime this year. I'm sure the weather will be MUCH better 😅 but hard to compare w Miami
2:26 Madrid has mountains in La Sierra. Heading to Guadarrama and you will discover the mountains in Madrid, even with snow during winter.
Lakes, there are lakes too.
No beaches thought.
Hmmm yeah but not in the city. You have to drive to get to these places or use transportation
@@dani-moves well, What city is on mountains?
Well, Bcn has mountains in the city, also Alicante, Bilbao...@@EA1DDO
I've only watched 5min so far and I already want to move there. I'm currently in New York City and I'm ready for a new adventure in the next 2 months. I would like to be a digital nomad or find a full time job building websites there. Thank you for making this video!
I totally get you! hahahah! that is the dreaam! I hope you can make it work. You will have a great time!
Madrid "winter" is definitely not comparable with Canadian winter. Hope to visit soon. Tnx
FACTS!
Im looking to move from Canada to Madrid and I gotta tell ya, you do like the Madrid weather/winter. Trust me
HAHHAHAHA! People say this a lot. This winter hasnt been terrible at all, I cant complain. I barely turn on my heater. So scratch that lol
Planning to move there later on this year with fiance and our baby. Currently in Ireland, the weather just sucks!
Oh yeah :( come to the south!!
thanks for the great video! Which are the non-touristic neighbourhood that you would recommend to a young couple without kids?
Chamberi :)
Thanks so much for sharing! I’m looking to move to Madrid next year but I’m curious as to how you did it being a US citizen? Moving isn’t easy lol
Hi! I have a whole video about how I became a resident in Spain. I recommend you watch it. It is hard unless you have a family/spouse member that’s willing to facilitate the process for you :(
I have also been living in Madrid for a year and even though it is not perfect (what city is?!) I agree with you that it has more pros than cons. Spain is a small country and what Madrid lacks can be easily compensated with short trips all around the country. Hello Madrid, I am only getting started!
I agree!!! 🤍
Spain is small?😂😂😂😂 so what about hungary, Slovacchia ??😂😂😂😂
I am a Bengali live in India we too have siesta culture. We usually take a nap of 40 minutes to 1/2 hrs (person to person vary) after having lunch.
Oh wow! I didn’t know this! Gaga
I was trying to figure out where you are from then you mentioned Publix -- aha! Florida. Not a fan of Florida weather but also not a fan of 6-month winters. Is Malaga a better option when it comes to temp. For New Yorkers who've been to Madrid, how similar or different is 6-month winter in NY compared to Madrid?
Hahahaha yeees I’m from FL! Malaga is in the far south of Spain, really close to Africa. It’s def nicer weather all year over there. Madrid vs NY: well one of my clients lives in NY and we really see the difference. It doesn’t snow in madrid (although we have some hailing) and maybe temperatures drop to the 30s a few times during the winter but it mostly stays in the high 40s and 50s with even some random days in the 60s. So it’s not bad at all
@@dani-moves I'm back in NY from FL. I miss the chicken sandwich and fried chicken at Publix, LOL. I've been trying to figure out how to live in Spain thru a digital nomad visa from the US but US companies don't offer remote jobs anymore -- or are you doing remote work now? So figuring out other ways if I can go there thru digital nomad visa. Definitely not a golden visa. That's a long shot.
Thank you for your video. It is informative and intriguing, unfortunately I am a huge nature person and I agree with you that Madrid would be perfect if it had more access to nature, for this reason, it may be a deal breaker for me. Barcelona seems to be more appealing to me.
if Madrid had a beach or a river, it would be too perfect to be true hahahah! It's so sad, but maybe that is what still makes it a great city!
@@dani-moves yes I agree, we can’t have too perfect to be true. I would enjoy it just how it is. Anything from Madrid is within driving distance or a short flight ✈️. I can’t wait to move forward with my move. Everything is lining up just right. Thanks again for the video. God bless from the USA 🇺🇸
Thanks! What’s the best place in Spain for families?
I think Madrid, San Sebastian, Valencia, Malaga
Nice informative video! I am planning to move to Spain from Pacific NorthWest in ~4 years time but as a (early) retired person. I have visited Spain every year (barring Covid years) for last 11 years and think it can be a good place live for me. I have good social contacts/friends in Madrid and am at beginner level Spanish language skills now (need to improve for sure!). A slightly different question if I may ask: did you move to Spain on a work visa do you work for an overseas/American employer @ Madrid/Spain?
Thanks for sharing a bit about your experience with Spain! Pacific North West is a great place. I have videos on Galicia, and also a recent video on all the Regions of Spain (except for islands). I also have a video on how i became a resident, it was through my husband who is Spanish. I have spoken to my lawyer about other visa options, she says the most common ones are 1) visa by investment (you have to have 500,000 euros cash), 2) "no-lucrativa" which is for 1 year but you can't have a job, yet, you can look for jobs and then change your status after the year ends, 3) work visa, 4) family union (the one i did).
Sounds fun. How is it for cycling?
Amazing actually!
If you have experience in it - how are options for a creche for babies/children? How easy it is to hire babysitter? Will be working from home, but going to the office fee days a week too, will need someone to take care of baby.
Hi! I am posting a video tomorrow on how was my experience giving birth in Madrid in case you are interested.
Baby sitting was sort of easy for us. We had a person that helped us cleaning the house and she clicked with our baby really well, so hiring her was a no brainer. She is amazing! Maybe I can ask my babysitter if she knows other people. She is from the philipines and speaks English and some Spanish as well!
Hola,
I'm glad you like my hometown. Madrid is a vibrant, glamorous, cultural city with a lifestyle that makes it unique, in fact, I think it is the best city in the world. Just a comment and I hope you and the rest of your fellow Americans or Brits accept it as constructive criticism. I am half Spanish and half German. Like many Europeans we speak more than one language, I specifically speak eight and my father spoke fifteen. I think they should learn the language of the country where they reside to integrate into a new society. Spain is not the USA, the UK or any Anglo-Saxon country. I have seen that many of you, in some way, keep complaining that English is not spoken in Spain, because because it is not the USA, the UK or any Anglo-Saxon country, it is not the official language. In fact, in Spain there are four official languages and in the European Union there are twenty-eight. When I go to Germany I speak German and not English. Furthermore, why do we have to speak their language if Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world? Begin to assimilate that you are not the center of the universe and that the rest of us have to adapt. You are the ones who live outside the United States, not the locals. For the rest, I'm glad you like the city and the country.
Greetings.
LOVEEE MADRID!!
I explicitly said I don't expect people here to speak English. Yet, my videos are in English and I target many English speakers, I know they want to know about English speakers in the city. So I make my observation considering them. Yet, again, I do not expect anyone to speak a language from another country. And Spanish is my first language :)
My niece will be studying in Madrid for a year. Are there any non-tourist areas or neighborhoods that you recommend? She enjoys running in parks and athletic events and activities.
I think chamberi, near canal Isabel would be perfect place for her!
It’s concerning on not as English speaking only because I want to move to learn to become fluent…meet people & build next chapter there😮
How would you describe diversity & community?
Oh no :( You will have to go somewhere else if you want to learn English. I think Barcelona is way more diverse. Madrid is more predominantly Spanish, Latino, and some Europeans as well but there is not a big English speaking community here
👑🇪🇸🥇
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on this video! I wish it had more views because I agree. This man is such an inspiration and has so much to teach us 💗💗💗
Is it hard to find a job for new international students in Madrid?
hmm i think it depends on what you are looking for, but maybe as a student you could work at a restaurant or in retail and could be more manageable to find
-1 Celsius? “Laughs in Norwegian” That’s cute. Try -25-30. I’m considering selling my apartment in Oslo and move to Madrid. That’s my dream, maybe in a couple of years.
LOL! I hope you can do it
*homologar
gracias por la correccion!
Cómo deben ser los tomates de malos en Florida para que los de aquí sepan bien... Los tomates ya no saben a nada en ningún sitio.
hahahah la verdad es que no saben a nada en Florida!
Homologar, not monologar
Oops! Thanks for the correction
Pro: You get to watch Real Madrid matches
Cons: Whatever she said in this video..
lol
This video was mostly about “look I’m an American that is trying to live as an American in another country” 🥴 maybe you should’ve learned before you move that when you go to another country you live by their rules…. And that’s coming from an American….
I am actually not American 😂 . Regardless, the acculturation process takes time. I think I have done a pretty good job and adapting to some things and then keeping the things about my lifestyle that I like :) . I am sorry you didnt enjoy this video! Hopefully, next time!
@@dani-moves well okay, you mentioned publix and all so I thought American it was plus Florida. I lived overseas for a while and loved it. But I was open minded about the differences. Now I DID ENJOY the video :) not to say I didn’t! I wanna move to Spain. Now in what you mentioned about the degree is interesting but mine is in IT so it should be transferred
Why is it a con that they don’t speak English? You’re in their country. Learn their language….
Spanish it's my first language hahahaha! I explicitly said I don't expect people here to speak English, and didn't say it's a problem for the Spanish. I am saying it can be a con for English speakers, since most of my viewers are English speakers. I have to speak to my audience!
@@dani-moves meant your husband
Americans complaining about the language in another country because they cant be bother to learn the language of the country they're living in
Actually.... my first language is Spanish LOL!! I think I was respectful with my comments on this matter. Im not saying that they should speak English... but... if you go to, Paris, Lisbon, Berlin, Athens, and other european capitals like even Tirana in Albania, people speak more English than here in Madrid (in my opinion!)
In Paris they only speak french.....
