I'm having major flashbacks to every jam session I've ever been to. 1 pianist, 1 bassist, 1 drummer, maybe a couple trumpets, and ALL 10 TYPES OF SAXOPHONIST AT ONCE
Awsome... the outside one made me laugh so hard, like those jams where drummer drop bombs, bass player plays pedal points, piano reharmonize and horn player plays outside... uh what tune was that? I’m kinda lost... “bruh, u so square...”...
I did a cruise ship gig were our sax player was LITERALLY ALL OF THESE. Just depended on the song. And yes, several of these were at the same time haha
0:24 is that a "grace" kelly reference? Also not sure if Leo P would fit here but he damn sure needs a category of his own! edit: nevermind, I found Leo at 2:31 haha
Imagine going to Jazz School and getting vibed at and looked down-upon for not being the "more notes means better solo" or "I'm too hip to play the changes guy". This has happened to me more than you'd think 🙃
@@DavePollack North Texas. Most people are really, really humble and welcoming, especially the upperclassmen, but there's a couple of people who are in my class who do that. I guess they think that being making lab bands as freshmen gave them a superiority complex

I’m not any of these characters (alto players) depicted in your video but I can identify with #4, slightly because I’m meticulous about my set-up, we tenor players are of a special breed.
Dave Pollack, I sure part 2 will have interesting valuable info but unless you’re a dedicated tenor player your sound and techniques will be noticeable by us tenor players. Alto players tend to be egocentric, as I stated earlier, dedicated tenor player are a special breed.
Dave Pollack, You’re right but thats only because playing all three are required for various gigs. From what I can hear and see on your videos is you’re an alto player at heart, thats the horn you spend more time on. Don’t fret though, no one probably ever notices the difference except us veteran tenor sax players. Ray Charles was skillful on alto sax too but that doesn’t main he was a sax player. My point is tenor sax is different.
So on point! I had all of theses saxophone players on a session already. Worst situation was. Piano, Bass, Drums and 5 saxophone players. And they all played a solo after each other. The first one played his solo. The second one tried to play better then the first one, but he sounded exactly the same. The third one quoted again for the 1000 time charlie parker. And great playing, by the way!

So funny. And you're a beast! May I suggest some others: the sub-toner (or the everything-sounds-like-pink-panther-plas), the endless grace-noter, the straight-jazz-sounds-like-smooth-jazz-er, the brecker-false-finger-licks-in-everything, the slap tonguer, ... and don't get me started with the vibrato styles (sanborn, ernie watts, richard elliott, gato)
#10 got me good. I definitely scoop a lot, but I'm trying to get away from it by learning more stuff like the blues. That long scoop at the end killed me

I'm the one who attempts to hide when someone asks who wants a solo but always ends up having one
#3 reminded me of Chad LB right away lol
I have to agree with that.
To be fair, some of Sonny Stitt's ballads sound like that too....
Definitely
This is hilarious, and funnily enough all those interpretations sounded amazing even though they were meant to be caricatures.
