In today’s video we’re taking a look at an ambitious WW2 indie shooter called Easy Red 2 by Corvos Studio, a game developed by just 1 man that has improved immensely since I first reviewed it over a year ago.
Some if not all of the clips you see in this video are recorded using a custom ReShade filter to add a more gritty, Band of Brothers style appearance to the game, and I’ll include a link and install instructions in the video description if you want to get the same look. This video is not sponsored, endorsed or promoted in any way and all opinions expressed are my own. So with all that said and done, let’s get into it!
So Easy Red 2 is a realistic first and third person shooter set in the second world war with support for singleplayer, multiplayer and co op gameplay together with reasonably challenging bots, dynamic building destruction and an impressive arsenal of weapons, vehicles and aircraft to play around with. Basically any weapons, vehicles or stationary defenses you see in the world can be player controlled.
It supports 100 players running around in large, open maps covering basically all major fronts of the second world war including the pacific, the eastern front, western Europe and the Mediterranean but in the online PvP and co-op modes the actual amount of real players you can have is capped at 20, with the other 80 slots being filled out by AI controlled bots.
You can also play as a squad leader and take control of the AI controlled bots by issuing simple move, attack and ability call-in commands either as infantry or together in a vehicle.
Battles take place on campaign-like maps with multiple different attack and defense objectives that force attackers to advance deeper and defenders to fall back each time a new set of objectives is captured, and you can play each mission as either the allies or axis, with the available factions decided by whatever map you’re fighting on.
Once you complete a mission you unlock the next one that was previously locked. Overall there’s about 25 missions in the base game and a further 9 in the optional Stalingrad DLC, with each mission taking around 20 minutes to complete. It’s also got a built-in map editor and Steam Workshop support which add some longevity to the game.
It’s difficult not to compare it to a modern day version of Battlefield 1942 in everything from the way it looks and how it feels to play, right down to the way the soldiers run around shouting and screaming. It’s even got that same old school jankiness to it that you’ll either love or hate.
For me the most important element to a first person shooter is the weapon handling. You want your shots to go where you’re aiming, and in a game like this it doesn’t hurt to give it a good dose of realism as well, and I think it does a pretty okay job, but it’s not perfect.
I felt like my bullets were going where I was aiming with a manageable recoil system in place that differs from gun to gun, though it feels like it uses some sort of mouse acceleration that can’t be turned off that did make it tricky to do persistently good shots, and that’s no doubt a bi-product of its built in support for gamepads, but I didn’t feel like it was enough of a problem to take away from the otherwise fun experience once I just accepted it.

One of my favorite things in the game is the medic system, and the fact that you can heal enemies and take them as prisoners.
surprising amount of depth in this game, and so so fun with friends. Definitely check it out if you have a couple mates to play it with
I personally love the survival/rpg element of it being mixed with a WW2 shooter. I always have it installed on my PC and switch for when I'm overseas
Easy Red is really really good, there is a super easy mission editor too. Can import pictures as landscapes

Not as easy on Xbox. I tried to make a Ukraine map but struggling with positioning troops
Game is amazing for what it is. Just bought the “dlcs”. It’s awesome
I know the reshade links are missing and I don't know where they went or if they were ever there in the first place, and I no longer have the game or any of the filters installed to be able to easily relink them. Sorry! my best advice is to google 'ReShade' and basically just add a toned down blue filter yourself. Reshade comes with easy to follow instructions so it doesn't take long. Best of luck!
Feels like playing a classic COD with realistic settings

@@evaone4286 I mean 1 man developer lol. But I supported this though, he seems genuinely active on improving the game.
It is officially developed by a solo developer but I'm not sure if any of the work was contracted out, I haven't really looked into it that much :)
@@Jupiter.141 There is 1 dev making a large part of the game and coding all of it but there is also a sound designer, multiple modelers and a map making team (which i am somewhat part of)
It's the best or at least most enjoyable WW2 game I have ever played. Exactly what I was hoping to find one day

Why is everybody bashing OHD so much? I understand that the youtuber has overpromised the hell out of it, but you can just uninstall it and move on. It costs you nothing but maybe the bit of time you spent trying it out

@@Overlord598 why would anyone believe bluedrake? I did not like him from before he start this game... He like to make people think he so so poor and please help him when as a big youtuber he make a hell of a lot! ( he employs 25 people that's a min of $500.000 a yr he is playing out ! ) Don't like people that deceive other people. He is a full on narcissist person. Peace Bro, sorry you lost your money :(
I want 100 more games every year like this. I hate modern games and the whole ideology behind them of trying to make every moment profitable. Games like this are just 'here's a fun experience. enjoy' its classic game design with more modern specs and options. looove to see it
This game is fun; I play on switch. While I’m playing, the game will randomly freeze or say “an error occurred in the software.” When I look up how to fix this, I follow the directions and the game continues to do this. I’ve mainly occurred this at Anzio, but sometimes it does in the Eastern Mandates (Marshall and Gilberts Islands). The game is fun and I like it, but this is making me very frustrated and I don’t know what else to do. Does anybody know how to help???

I'd recommend Enlisted, Hell Let Loose and Post Scriptum as well which are probably more fitting replacements than Easy Red 2.
I can't stomach the way the character is holding a rifle. It's physically impossible to hold it like this. It looks like the wrist is broken.
They are changing this. The new animations look very good but are still not available for all guns... yet.
Just pretend you're a human alien hybrid with more bones and joints in your wrist than a regular human, and you've come back in time as a tourist to experience the war first hand.
Can you add more bots than just the preset "Max" in a config file somewhere or something? I've got the system for it and wouldn't mind adding more!
as a medic how did i patch wounded players ?
If your a medic youll see a down soldier and an icon with a red cross go to that down soldier hold f

@@ThisOLmaan You probably know this by now, but the icon hovering over wounded soldier also indicates which surgical tool you're supposed to use.
You can also heal enemy wounded and take them prisoner. They'll thank you for it.
Real curious if people actually play the online on Switch or not....

Does this game has a sort of offline custom match/instant action mode?
Yes, the entire game can be played in single player with bots.

How is it on console and can you play without being online fully offline play???
i got it on xbox last night and its pretty fun a bit wonky to aim and such but still fun also i have internet but solo play vs bots

They do not. Takes a divine act just to clear a single map without crashing. Games a buggy mess.
The game isn't crashing at all for me. I max out all the settings too.

It's not crashing for me in October. I just picked it up. Have everything on max including AI too. I have a beefy GPU though. Not a single crash. I'm so in love with this game.

No it can be Arcady or hardcore depending on you settings things like hit markers are in setting and you can change game mode
