Allegedly the town was originally called Newberry Springs and the Springs was dropped. Margaret just brought it back.
She was born and raised in Indiana and attended DePauw University. Her husband was from Colorado. They lived in California and had a chinchilla farm. Mr. Orcutt died in a small plane crash in Iowa in '49 or '50. She came to Newberry in 1953.
Thank you again for your video! Good stuff!

I stopped there on my way to LA. Got up to 60mph on the driveway. The house is half fallen down. It looks to have been a sweet homestead way back when

I've gone down a rabbit hole of videos about this property over the last few days and this is far and away the most detailed and most interesting.

    Great informative video too.
I wonder are there any pictures of her place or of her while she was alive?

She died in 1984. Cordless telephones existed back then. She probably had one.

Perhaps leaving out the details of her fall would of been more respectful. But there again I understand the mentality of the people in and around Barstow.

The exasperation of the interviewer was *very* offputting. Not very Huell Howser.

I agree, It's like the impatient city guy tries to read into everything and making crap up instead of letting the old timer tell the actual story. Most so called RUclips adventurer/ explorers are like that theying to figure things out they know nothing about.
