    Great to see this. I am going for the same solution. I will receive my Polestar 2 in 3 weeks and we are currently looking at which Roof Top Tent to buy. Thanks for sharing your experience 🙂

    Left my i3 as well, but went for an i-pace and did a SUV tent that attaches to rear of vehicle instead. Allowing me to take advantage of Camper Mode so I can enjoy heat/ac - Happy motoring

    Cool. Just show how much is the extra consumption with the tent driving on the motorway.
    With my tepui tent it costs 50% more driving in Europe 100 km/h ( max speed allowed with tent) , Citigo electric

    Finally, the first video of the kind. Thank you for sharing.
    I noticed you already changed the wheel and this tent will also decreases battery range, how bad has it affected the range??

    • @BasinBjorn
      @BasinBjorn  2 года назад

      The range dropped a bit as the consumption with this tent went up. On winter roads I would get about 320km (230wh/km) on a full charge and now with about +10C I get closer to 370km (200wh/km) of range.

    Isn't the max weight allowed on the roof/roofbars like 75 kilos - maybe even less?

    What is the size of the tent floor?
    Floor = length x width

    I was wondering if the top of the tent can have solar panels, so that during driving and/or while camping, solar panels could charge the car or power banks? Also, is the ladder included or separate purchase? It looks like it is designed for the roof rack. I hope to have a fully electric camper with solar and biofuel generators, including perhaps wind generator.

    • @BasinBjorn
      @BasinBjorn  2 года назад

      Well that is actually my plan, to fit one solar panel on the top of the tent. It’s a good surface for that but will prob route the cable down into the car (through a open window) and there to the power bank.
      But that’s a later project.
      Yes the ladder is included with the tent

  • @dnetz2145

    Did you mention whether the ladder comes with the tent, or as an option? Thx

    • @BasinBjorn

      The extendable ladder is included with the tent. But I ended up replacing it for a 60 Euro fixed lightweight ladder that I just carry on top of the tent. Frees up space inside the car.

    Are those the OEM roof bars? Or did I hear you say they are Thule?

      They are the original ones from the Polestar shop

      @@BasinBjorn That is a really nicely specced tent. Much lighter than I'd have thought. Would love to hear how it performs in the rain...

    Cool solution 🙂 perhaps a bummer that it's not recommended on the car 🙄🤔

    • @hansenformularacing
      @hansenformularacing 2 года назад

      Who says it is not recommended? The original roof bars are approved for 75kg according to Polestar 2 manual which is more than the tent weighs. That makes it within specs. The Thule bars are only approved for 60 kg though.

      @@hansenformularacing The question is probably what's possible while standing still and sleeping in the tent. I'd like to use my rooftop tent with the PS2, but Polestar only proves 75kg while standing still, so with the 40kg of my Frontrunner tent I'm OK, but I cannot get in. While camping you might have a realistic overall weight of 190kg in total with 2 person, tent and rails. Maybe 10-20kg more with a bit of equipment etc. Did you found any information about the weight limit while standing still and camping?

    • @BasinBjorn
      @BasinBjorn  2 года назад +1

      Well it’s just a guess, but my guess is that all the weight limits are set for what the car could handle in a collision.
      The roof itself should be able hold the car upside down, without crushing the occupants.
      But I’ll make some more videos as I get to using the tent.

      @@michaelk2555 all car manufacturers are specifying the max dynamic load.
      The stress on the roof bars are much higher during acceleration and collisions. Thats why you only have 75kg allowed load.
      The roof can handle much more load during stand still.
