  • Video of my 2003 Troy-Bilt Super Bronco rear tine tiller starting up after a cold winter. A quick walk-though and some footage tilling up the garden.
I purchased this unit in 2003 with one of two things in mind: I'd use it, love it and keep it forever, or use it, find out I don't want to garden, and sell it. Five years later, I've still got it.
It is a standard rotating tine tiller powered by a B&S Intek 6.5 HP motor. It is an MTD machine. The only non-scheduled maintenance has been a belt replacement.
In the video it appears if the front bumper is loose, but it is just the shutter speed of the camera making the vibration of the tiller look worse then it actually is.

It's nice to see a person take real good care of their equipment. I acquired for free from a friend a Super Bronco about a 2004 model that sat outside for years. It had a locked engine, along with seized control cables. Got the engine freed, and the wheels that were rusted solid to the axles. much more to do on it.
I am a firm believer that power equipment should be protected from the elements.
I do have a 1980's Horse from the original Troy Bilt factory in Troy N.Y Bought it new.
    Take care.

Yeah, my uncle has this tiller now, but I just purchased a Troy-Bilt Sickle Bar mower that is in pretty good shape...videos are out now on my other RUclips channel, but will be out on this one shortly.

Oh...I love the tiller...it is the perfect size for our garden. Not sure which engine they are using now, but the Super Bronco's I think now are CRT...counter rotating tines....where the one we have from 2002 is standard rotating tines, which once you get used to, is the much better (IMO) way to go.

On higher end engines, this unit could have a dip stick, and if it did, it would be located there and the oil port I checked would be plugged.
The gear oil is located on the back of the unit and is a simple bolt. Remove the bolt and inspect to make sure there is oil 1/2 up the gear. Without double checking, this oil does not need to be changed, just checked.

Well, just check the basics, make sure it's got a good spark plug and spark, and you probably have some sort of carburetor problem. You'll need to tear is apart, clean it, maybe replace some things in a kit, and put it back. From there, you'll do much better. Good luck.

Yes..it's a newer model. Older units had tines that turned the same way as the wheels.

Crappy soil will make it run on. Hard compressed clay doesn't like to be tilled.

    that's almost the same tiller I have. Mine is a Troy-Built Pony w/ a 5 HP Briggs

Yes...I am aware of the operation...and that's great for light tilling in good soil. Going deep in too few of passes does require a little armstrongness to save time. I do love the tine rotation though...too bad they are going away from it.

I used mine only 3-4 times, and I can tell you mine never started that easy or at all. I used same procedure. Not a B&S fan.

I have a Super bronco rototiller I left with gas in it for 2 years without using it. I have taken the carburetor out and cleaned it thoroughly. I have not changed the oil, but it's full and should be clean, since it was only used once tow years ago. The engine started up last nite and I ran it for 3 minutes. This morning I can't get it started. The engine is not flooded and it has a new spark plug. What can I do to get it started, please?

Your cat had no time for your tiller. She was out when you started it.

Why did you not say what you adjusted.

No reason for the machine to run on you unless you hit a tree root or rock. Its a lightweight machine so you need to make several passes. My Pony doesn't weight much more and it only runs away when I'm pushing down trying to dig too deep.

I don’t think you’ve used a super bronco if you say it doesn’t run! It’s definitely not light weight either so I’m guessing you’ve only ridden your pony not the bronco
