9:00 shows Baddy's ignorance in understanding certain aspects of our society which are being reflected in quite a few Tamil films of late. I might even go as far as to say people have not paid attention to the dialogues there. The mother is not oblivious to the benefits of educating her child. The question is what happens if the mother is no more. The child may want to study and might even get free scholarship in school courtesy government funding (the recent Neeya Naana alludes to this poignantly), but how would he manage his livelihood? If that dialogue itself didn't register this point, then the climax drives that point home even further. What if on that fateful day, both the mother and sister had passed away. Who would have taken care of them?
Specifically with respect to that question: BR's film knowledge is second to none, but there's still a lot of learning to be done in terms of understanding the context of some local films which are beyond the urban landscapes. It is ok to not understand and try to understand it, instead of passing off an opinion which is so far off the tangent.

I liked Kottukali just as much as Vaazhai, perhaps even more.
Kottukaali is a gem of a movie. It keeps lingering for a long time and give the viewer the creative hat to introspect self conscience rather than buy someone else’s point of view. Hope PS Vinodraj doesn’t give up to negative comments. It is the best original movie and will live forever.
Kottukaali breaks all the rules of tamil cinema. Its how a movie should made without any fake sounds. Its gave me goosebumps when a small girl controls the big cow without any bgm.
I think we need both kinda films.. but kottukaali like film is for selective audience .. most of them won't connect and even the makers will know this

Vaazhai a very good traditional movie based on well written script. Kotuukaali has no traditional script. Everything is conveyed indirectly in vey hard hitting way.

Why kottukaali didn't work for most of mainstream audience
Coz The long single shot make audience more uncomfortable(I see ppl stretching the chair)
the camera didn't move it's static these short form content watchers couldn't unable to sit through
And the audience wating for the banger climax but the director asked us to think they get irritated
If they made the movie in Korean, or Hollywood like kim ki duk, Nolan these youtube guys started the decoding video
the reviewer is inconsistent on the criterion for evaluating movies. For Thangalaan he asks for spoon-feeding as the subject matter is new to most of the audience. On the contrary, for Kottukaali he says that films doesnt have to take you step by step, sometimes the audience have to make some effort.
Yes your correct . But it based on the subject. in thangalaan movie talks about past history so not many people aware of it so you need more information where as in kottukali and vaazhai the story happen in current time in a rural part so except city people most of them will easily understand without much information.

Everyone have painfull things but he knows what should be shown,how to place and cut the scenes. If he says how to convert these kind of stories to mainstream. PS Vinoth said that he treats his film as like as the French film makers.. so I want to know that how he converts into mainstream. Where he learns the approach and treatment.

Hai all, I need to make a genuine discussion about the climax which is not impact for me, if you had a genuine opinion pls comment and any other valid criticism

All of them says that the death of the nineteen labour will gave them a hard impact and the accident done by the landlord who need to save the money by order them to travel with heavy load of vaazhai, so that the over weight leads for the accident. But it is not convey for me like this
Before the accident, an shot shows that the lorry driver feel asleep while driving. This make me that the accident not done by the overweight it will done only by the driver's careless. If the lorry travel with out vaazhai only by people, the accident will done who is responsible , the driver or landlord?. Both gave the same impact to me so that this is not a convincing point that the overweight of vaazhai which leads to the accident and the death of 19 was not impact as much as
In climax , on my perspective the hunger or the poverty life of Sivanaindhan overtake or unable to react the death of his sister.

In Kottukaali, till Pandi hits Meena, and bursts off, there is no need in the movie to spell out that Meena is having a love affair going on. The scenes and dialogues could have written around the premise that she is just possessed. The audience would only then understand that she is not actually possessed, but being adamant about her love.
My question is, if done like that, would the movie have been more artsy or more massy??😂
I could see people in my family not enjoying the open end. I don't understand, what's the need to end that movie. Even why to give that end card!?

22:14 I know it sounds somehow correct to say it like that but I don't think so. It would have taken only few minor changes, and even Kottukkali could have been widely well received by our audience. Cut the first long shot by half, cut out shots of them peeing, make the climax a little less open ended - and that's all you needed. For me, it's a solid film, there were so many things that we simply haven't seen in any other film, but even for me the climax at that moment seemed like a let down. I later made peace with it, but the audience in the theater were universally disappointed. Vinoth and the producers should have done a theatrical version, they missed a trick.
The issue with kottukkaali is that camera angles why so many continuous long shots
I guess that makes the scene more natural and takes us into it.
