I liked all 4 renditions of tension rising if I am being honest. 2.5 being my favorite bc the violin is beautiful and it sounds more intense while 2 is just nostalgic for me and then 3 for angelic amber its like a more modern version of 2 and finally for reapers revenge its just something different that when i first heard it in repunzels world it was just phenomenal.
Considering the same composer did all renditions, she just stripped down KH3's a little more and less repetition in the woodwinds. But KH/FF soundtracks always slap so I have no problems with either.
Actually, the Angelic Amber was arranged by Yuko Komiyama, and the Reaper version by Shotaro Shima. Yoko Shimomura was just the composer for the original music.
@@lukasruston8618 if you had some decent understanding you wouldn't be saying this. The song it's called TENSION RISING. Yet the kh3 one is very soft. Have you tried playing kh3 with headphones. Then it's even softer. The original kh2 is perfect
Gonna be honest, I enjoy the MIDI version of tension rising on the OG KH2 soundtrack more than the remake. Those trumpets/trombones played such an important part that their exclusion or downplaying in future renditions just makes it sound flat.
Which was understandable cause they made sora to strong in in kh3. It didn’t feel like there was a threat more like A road trip across the stars to deal with that one old man who wanted to return to the good old days upon which we used to rely

I like the Tension Rising from kingdom hearts 3, but for a completely different reason. It's great DND music for a big boss. Much more bombastic by itself then the kingdom hearts 2 Tension Rising
KH2's version actually keeps a sense of constant, rising tension, just as the name of the song implies. Meanwhile KH3's version tries to use large and loud notes as a sense of heavy tension, but because the background is lacking, it gives off more of a sense of surprise, and reveals a sense that the situation really isn't all that... tense. Plus, after being blessed with the beauty that is Marluxia's Re:CoM Lord of the Castle theme, having the KH3 version mime Marluxia's style without the constant tension of KH2's version and Re:CoM's presence feels a bit lacking... Tl;Dr: as a gamer, both fit. As a musician, I'd pick KH2's version any day, as most musicians would (since the difference between the two for their intended purpose is too large).

@@pikachufrankie I'd wager the original 13th Dilemma is better than 2.5 version. Something about Yoko Shimomura using synths to simulate orchestral instruments rather than just recording the orchestra gives it that "made for videogames" feel.
@@afrothundergaming3498 TBF, I think Yoko has had an issue recently with adding too many instruments to her remixes of songs. For example, in 13th Dilemma, the brass-y instrumentals which are constantly playing in the original song, are completely drowned out in the 2.5 remix. It makes the 2.5 version sound like it's ironically missing instruments, when in reality there are MORE in it than the original.
I think what some video game composers get wrong is they think that "grand" or "epic" sounding music is better. So it makes it sound like you're listening to a movie sound track or maybe you're sitting down for an orchestra. Video game music needs to be immersive and fit the theme of the game. The best example of this is all the songs that were rearranged for Smash Bros.
