The most legendary scam response I remember is when the scammer requested a PayPal request from the recipient. The PayPal request was sent and the scammer accepted the transaction, without realizing the request the recipient sent was to TAKE money from the scammer, NOT giving it. So not only did the scammer not make any money, but the recipient got $10 out of the whole ordeal. Cherry on top: scammer was openly malding and begging for their money back.

I once got pulled over by a cop while driving through a town famous for fake cops. His name was James Bond and he introduced himself as county police (my vision is bad enough that I can't easily tell the difference between highway patrol cars and county cars with similar lights, and uniforms seem to vary heavily), but his badge didn't come up in the county thing when I got home. Thought the tickets were fake. Called the county he claimed to work at to report his scam. "Hey, I'm calling to report one James Bond-" "Oh, he's not ours, he's with the Highway Patrol. If there's an issue, I can put you through to the appropriate office." "Ah. So... He's real?" *slight laughter on their end* "Yes, he's real." "Fu- uh... No, no issue, thank you."

People scamming those who lost their pets is infuriating. We found a cat with no collar one Saturday night, kitty wandered into the house with us. We gave him his own comfy space until we could take him to get checked for a chip on Monday. We let the Vet handle the contact since getting a phone call from a veterinarian seemed less sketchy than a call from random folks around the corner. Kitty made his way home to two very happy kids, and every so often he still wanders past the house

I remember that a few years ago, I was just going through my email and noticed that my spam folder had something. Turns out it was a scam email about how some dude found out one of my passwords and tried to blackmail some money out of me. The email was full of only red-coloured text and everything to make it look scary or something... (I think it even started off with something like "I'm a hacker who's found the password to one of your accounts" or something)
Now, the real issue was that it really was one of the passwords that I had used... Just that I used that on a third-party Club Penguin site after the original CP went down, but mainly as a tribute to my original CP account that I had made when I was like 7-8 years old. And that password was something that I had never used anywhere else...
I was initially quite shocked that one of my passwords got leaked... Until I read which password got leaked... Then I just laughed really hard and deleted the email...

The point of it is to get people to respond so that they know which numbers are valid numbers, assigned to actual people, who are gullible enough to respond. Then they sale the list of valid numbers to "call centers"

I have a scam story for you.
The story takes place when I was 6.
I had just gotten my first device (a iPad, old model) and I was watching RUclips videos on it when I got a message. Here's how it went:
Scammer: Hello, do you have any kids?
Me: ofc not im a child
Scammer: Well one of them were found in New York.
At this point I was confused, if I was an adult and even HAD kids, how would they get there? (I live in canada btw)
Me: i told you i had no kids
Scammer: I will tell you their location. But first I need your credit card info so I know your the parent.
(This is now getting obvious that it's fake)
Me: i dont have a credit card
Scammer: You can trust me, here's a picture (sends a random Google photo of a kid in New York with their face hidden and a hoodie on)
    Me: well im a kid
Scammer: thanks for the info! They are at the empire state building.
    (Scammer blocked me)
I was so confused after that 😂
Another story is after my grandpa passed away.
Scammer: Hello, I am your grandpa. I got a new phone
Me, going along with it: Oh hey grandpa!
Scammer: I have a question, whats your location again?
Me: (tells the location of a comedy club)
Scammer: okay im coming over right now to borrow 1000$
    (5 hours later)
    Scammer: I'm here
Me: okay, see the comedy club?
    Scammer: yes, why?
Me: head in, im in there.
    Scammer: where are you?
Me: go on the stage first
    Scammer: so where are you?
Me: At home, next time make sure the person's grammar is alive lmao
Scammer: (a bunch of swears i didn't even know about)
    After that I blocked them.
    That was fun 😁

@@ana.wordswordswords There is, actually. I don’t know it’s name, but I’ve seen ads of apps that limits what texts you get and doesn’t let random numbers text you. I disliked the idea because I thought, “Well, If I give out my phone number and I don’t get theirs, I won’t be able to text them” but otherwise I think it’s a good idea to avoid spams. I don’t use it, though, because spams aren’t as prominent in my everyday texting experience so it’ll just take up space on my phone.

i work in retail and we recently “upgraded” our phone system. by that i mean we switched from the classic nokia bricks that worked just fine to smart phones that are so overloadedd with work related apps that they can barely function even for phone calls. since the “upgrade” i’ve also noticed we’ve been getting tons of telemarketer and scam calls. these arent our personal phones, theyre all registered under the stores phone number. on the few occasions that we answer & theres an actual person on the other end trying to scam us they somehow dont get the hint when we say “Thank you for calling the blahtown Xmart, how can I help you today?” so then we awkwardly listen to them start up their scam bit which is usually the typical “your computer has an illness” as one scammer put it, politely wait for them to stop talking, repeat ourselves & cue 5 seconds of awkward silence from them til they hang up

The wifi still worked, but without internet. We called them, had to lie to the bot to get it to give the right options, then spend 2 hours on hold. They then charged us to send someone out to tell us the router is fried (which we already knew) and that we would have to buy a new one.
