    My pair just arrived today!!! So friggin stoked. Purchased them from Studiocare in England; they showed up today, 3 days after I ordered them. Halfway across the world in WA state. So incredibly impressive. Mastering a record tomorrow night...

      DUDE!!!!!!! I am SO STOKED FOR YOU!!!! I have the biggest smile on my face for you!!! Just remember you need to put a trimmer before and after it so you are sending it "old school" tape level. That's actually why they sound so legit. My trimmer before the unit is set at -16 and the one after it is +15 or so to get it back to unity gain for your computer, it talks about that in the manual. If you need ANY help at all hit me up!! LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE EM!!! I cool trick is also leave them off and punch them in in the choruses ;)

      Absolutely. Roger Mayer himself contacted me and let me in on what he actually made them for. Recording THROUGH them is an absolute game changer. I feel like I have a secret weapon!!

      @@ndavies8 since he and I talked in May, I’ve never recorded without them. Literally a game changer!!! I can’t wait to share the next video. Figuring out the best way to do it. I have a pretty crazy vocal setup. I have a Manley Ref C mic that goes in to my voxbox, in to a bae 1073 eq in to bae 1176 into an LA2A THEN the Roger Mayer 456hd. So long as the 456hd is the final piece before the converter you are good to go. I’m sure just going straight from the voxbox would be awesome but I have all this all stuff so why not?! Happy to help in any way I can for ya.

    How are they for tracking vocals ,bass and guitar?

    • @robheskin
      @robheskin  9 месяцев назад +1

      I track all my vocals through them. I'll send you a link a Whitney Houston cover I did using them. I don't record amped guitars and basses because of my space but I run even my DI signal through it them and it's awesome. These are the single most unique and most used pieces of gear I own because they are on everything except for when I have already tracked through them with all of my sources. That's actually what Roger intended these to be. We have talked several times and he made these to be TRACKED through at the source so the converters don't permanently ruin your transients. ruclips.net/video/TYRhrVDBsDo/видео.html

      @@robheskin where in the chain do you put them? Last I’m assuming? Also do you find that the sound is appropriate for all styles? Lastly can these get dark and vintage sounding? All demos I’ve heard sound mid forward. Can you get an older tape sound out of these?

      @@JaymeSilverstein Hey Jayme. Sorry it took me a day to get back. Holiday stuff.. The middle knob is a presence knob. Not sure how dark they can really go. You called it right their mid range is where the magic is. It's perfect for anything that you want to sound like a record from decades ago. I couldn't think of a piece of gear I use more. If you want to have more control over how dark it I would HIGHLY recommend Taupe by Acoustica Audio. I think that's what they're called. Easily the most intense and flexible tape plugin I've ever seen!!

      @@JaymeSilverstein Yes last in the chain if you are recording with them. As you hear them hear they are in the middle of the chain. There's two mastering plugins after these. Usually some multiband limiters

    Just sounds like its doing a rolloff of the highs and some squeezing of the mids. Tape sounds different.

      @robheskin  11 месяцев назад +1

      Roger himself told me these are not tape emulations. It's the mechanics leading up to the tape. I'll do another one to clarify after speaking to him. I honestly care more about how they sound than anything else.

      @robheskin  Год назад

      @@LosFicosMusic I don't really know. I've heard the demos and feel like that I HAVE the secret weapon. Recording through these will make your mixing fun and easy. Not sure about the 542. Not sure if it's better than a plugin but I'd by these 100000 times over again. Actually one of the purchases that has changed my sound the most. So if that's what you're going for I'd do these. They're around 700$ on Reverb.
